It’s quite simple, really.
The hot gases which fired the bullet push the cartridge case against the bolt, which propels the slide rearward, whereupon the case is ejected and the hammer cocked. The recoil spring then pushes the slide forward, in the process chambering another round.
Now, as far as you know, is CN or CS still available to civilians? I had thought it was banned because O/C was proven to be a far safer (I’ve read that high enough concentrations can cause permanent tissue damage) and, from the literature I’ve read, more effective alternative and thus idiot-proof, but I could be wrong. I’m just asking because I don’t see it on the shelves anymore.
CN has been superceded by CS in the military, because CS is faster-acting, and is less damaging. I believe both are still used by police departments, although OC is clearly more effective. CS and CN “mace” products, although banned in some states, are still available for civilian purchase, online.

Nice. But what if the magazine is empty, and there’s not another round to chamber?

Are you implying that Mike’s girlfriend had to empty the entire magazine into the creep in order to get the job done? I don’t think you give the lady, or her choice of weapon, much credit.

LOL I’m at the range once a week. Can’t expect everybody to keep up with me.

The girl is a pretty decent shot. She carries an XD-40 subcompact. It is a beautiful weapon. She’s a much better shot with a rifle though, and what I find incredibly sexy is that she does it with iron sights.

I was looking at the springfields when I was shopping around for a pistol a ways back. I know I wanted a composite of some sort, and it was a toss up between the xd’s, the sigmas, and the glock. I ended up buying a glock 17, more for the fact that I shoot a lot and 9mm ammo is cheaper than dirt. I still shoot my buddy’s sigma .40 just to mix it up though.
How’s the trigger pull on that xd? The glock is smoother than hell, and the sigma pull is weird and a bit heavy for my taste.

I think more people should consider non-leathel self defense. I’m sure a 110 lb. woman would probably prefer carrying mace instead of a glock 9. Most women are probably less interested in killing someone than getting out of the dangerous situation. Think mace isn’t strong enough? Look around. She can find some very strong stuff out there. Yup, and there are no consequences to using “mace”.
Make sure that your girlfriend draws down on everyone who approaches her within 21 feet while on campus. Or maybe a knife and the buddy system might be safer, if security is truly a top priority?
Todd
Tell the 21 foot rule to my girlfriend’s buddy who was just mugged this past weekend. He was grabbed from behind and told to get his wallet. So he reached into his back pocket and grabbed his pistol. The guy pissed himself and ran. Mugging over.

Okay, my bad, I accept defeat here. Clearly, your girlfriend’s buddy is more knowledgeable than professional law enforcement agencies like the FBI. The 21-foot rule no longer applies.
yeah, I know you were trying to point me out but its okay youll get as good as me someday
If anyone is foolish enough to mess with Julia, she will hurl a few javelins into their chest, then heave a shot put at their head.
Ohh thats a terrible sight to have in the head, just thinking about how much itd damage-have you ever seen someone get stabbed with a jav? Pretty gruesome sometimes. Almost is equal to your stomache being blown out by the hammer when the wire comes off-think I heard of that happening to a guy and he instantly died. shivers

You are missing the point here. I am not calling the 21 foot rule into question. Classroom instruction is one thing, but reality is another. Whether or not the precious 21-foot rule is valid or not is moot in this situation. The motive of the attacker made it so. Any time you step out of your home you take risks. Open carrying will certainly increase some risks, but it will also decrease other ones. Doing the math as to which one is the better end is up to the individual.
What you are doing here is playing what if games. Sure, there’s the 21-foot rule, but there is also the 500 yard rule. I suppose that a would-be assailant could also grab a hunting rifle and shoot you from 500 yards away then come take your money. I am not saying that open carrying makes you an imperviable badass. What I am saying is that it tips the odds a little more in your favor when you do the math.

It actually happened at my high school many years ago. This guy was practicing and some stupid girl just went walking on the field and she got nailed (literally) in the hip. Totally shattered her femur and she needed reconstructive hip surgery.

I got a 236/240 on my last requal in August. How’m I doin’?

Well. its SO bad that I could just eat my hair and it would be better than it. I’ll get back to you with another opinion when I figure out what a “requal” is and then those numbers.

I nearly nailed some cross country kids with my javelin once, they were sitting too close to the field and I told them they needed to move-they didnt move. So I started throwing and after a few throws I threw before I got my block foot down and the javelin veered sideways-right in the middle of the group. My coach gave them mean looks and I said sorry to them and he said “dont be sorry. they should learn to respect the javelin.”
was so mad.

LOL! You are something else, julia. One has to requalify (or “requal”) annually to maintain a “G” license (license to carry a sidearm while on duty as a security officer) in the state of Florida.
A 240 is a perfect score. I shot a 236. Probably would have been perfect if I shot more often, but I’m happy with it.
