Gun Policy in the USA

Well known liberal outlets like The Cato Institute and World Population Review Haha.

Why is it that so many people on the internet resort to crying “liberal” when they’re presented with evidence that they’re wrong about something? It’s so weird to me, considering the most “liberal” thing I’ve said here is that it might be beneficial for people to receive training before they buy a gun.

Because you provided NPR and the LA Times…two extremely liberal news

In addition to the extremely conservative Cato link I posted, and the politically neutral World Population Review link I posted. Perhaps that means I’m not politically biased in the way that you seem to assume?

And for the record, NPR leans left but is not “extremely liberal” by any reasonable measure.

In my opinion the CATO institute is a false libertarian outlet…its all about the wealthy elite

NPR is so extreme they fired Juan Williams for not leaning far enough left

I’ll remind everyone here that this is the Gun Policy in the USA thread, not the subjective interpretation of just how liberal or conservative this place or that is thread.

I’m not a particular big fan of linking articles someone else wrote and expecting people to respond to that as if it were my own thoughts. It leads to rabbit holes like this, for starters. We should, however, stay on-topic and try to understand each others thoughts on the subject of Gun Policy in the USA.

And for the record, i have no issue with “well regulated” when it comes to the second amendment

You’re right.

I was posting links to provide evidence for my claims, not so other people could make my arguments for me — but ultimately probably not a good practice either way.

And I got way derailed here. My bad.

That’s okay. I may have done it a time or two myself.

In the parlance of the time “well-regulated” meant that it was in good working order, functioning as expected and needed. It did not mean that the federal government ought to neuter the milita through regulations.

Do you think a “well regulated” militia can challenge the government in this day and age?

That would depend on the militia, the government and the circumstances, but that’s not what this thread is about.

This is the Gun Policy in the USA thread.

Thats correct, however, in 2008 and 2010…did not the supreme court issue rulings indicating that firearms can be regulated by the states…i.e.sawed off shotguns are prohibited

my interpretation can be way off

my apologies for assisting in derailing the thread

The best source for determining the meaning of any word in the Constitution is the 1828 Noah Webster Dictionary

Regulate, v.t.

  1. To adjust by rule, method or established mode; as in to regulate weights and measures; to regulate the assize of bread; to regulate our moral conduct by the law of God and of society; to regulate our manners by the customary forms.
  2. To put in good order; as to regulate the disordered state of a nation or its finances.
  3. To subject to rules or regulations; as to regulate trade; to regulate diet.

I own a facsimile edition of the 1828 Noah Webster Dictionary and an actual 1850 Noah Webster Dictionary. My recommendation is to never attempt to interpret the US Constitution with anything but an 1828 at your side.

Thank you for the clarification and great source suggestion!

Awesome post.

Training is always beneficial. Im all for people voluntarily training with their firearms. Im totally against any type of mandatory training.

In other words, no guns for anyone that’s not approved by the government.

Wasn’t sure where to put this. The stupid thread. The Mediocre Biden thread.

Biden actually said “high caliper guns”???

Did he happen to mention any parameters, like anything over .22 caliper is “high caliper”? …9mm?

Might the numb skull have meant to say “high capacity magazines”? Biden certainly needs two translators as he speaks. One for the deaf. And one for those of us who can hear.
