It sounded like you made a choice when presented with two choices.
IMO, there is no choice. They are 'apples" and “oranges”.
But I will reconsider that you know to do Quad 1 activity prior to Quad 2 activity. And you are just noting that Quad 1 activities have a urgency component that needs addressed soon, and that a Quad 2 activity can be addressed after all Quad 1 activities have been addressed.
The difference here is that I believe addressing a Quad 1 activity and a Quad 2 activity simultaneously is to compare their importance.
I actually prefer sentencing be at the judges discretion (with guidelines for each charge) instead of mandatory minimums. The judges I’ve met have been really great people and I’d trust them to dole out judicious sentencing.
If you think judges can’t be trusted to digest guidelines and sentence criminals appropriately, maybe that’s a bigger problem than removing black/white mandatory minimums?
I need a little clarification:
Aren’t all “cost” an expense?
I have never known the need for “cost” to need an adjective for descriptive information. Might it be reasonable to think that “negative cost” is a credit?
I am still waiting for the democrat controlled house, 50/50 senate with a democrat decider VP and the democrat controlled presidency to pass some sort of gun controlled law…
Those of you who advocate for mandatory gun safety classes, how do you think that would have stopped the Uvalde shooting? Is it just another hoop to make gun purchasers jump through, or do you think if this evil piece of crap had taken a safety class he wouldn’t have done what he did?
It’s to make it more difficult for idiots and assholes to purchase firearms. Especially firearms with a large capacity for damage.
All the policies are intended as hurdles. Nothing will be 100% effective. But the inches add up, especially long-term.
This jackass in Texas had a history of skipping class. Mandatory hunters safety’s type class would have been too tall of a hurdle for him. And no drug dealer or gun runner I know accepts a CC…
Personally, I’d like to see it along the lines of a driver’s test. Written test along with a field proficiency test. Govt subsidized/free training at certain ranges to become proficient and learn the laws. This would benefit the good responsible folks too.
And I’d give the instructors/proctors a lot of leeway in failing people and noting any suspiciousness in their “permanent record”.
And similar to what I’d like to see with drivers licenses, I’d like a renewal test every 10 years.
^^^all off the top of my head. Very open to improvement/hole poking to make this particular policy action better.
On its own or in conjunction with the number of other policy ideas posited up thread?
Do you find firearm safety/proficiency classes and testing unpalatable? Pretty sure no goddamn liberals will be teaching CRT in them if you’re still hung up on that.
In combination with the other policies meant to weed out the idiots and assholes… Like checking juvie records, requiring a cosigner, easier red flags, etc.
The classes would create a more proficient good-guy populace, and present another hurdle for the idiots and assholes to clear.
No, it’s that they’re already mandatory in plenty of states and it does nothing to stop gun violence; it only helps prevent gun accidents - which are not the issues we are talking about here.
