Gun Policy in the USA

I would say it is about needs. A free nation needs free speech, for example. It isn’t a bill of wants and your wants are not protected by the BOR.

But most reasonable people would agree we do need to have age restrictions and limits for these things.

Semi auto anything.

NATO might believe and like that but the dead kids at Sandy Hook would disagree. Am atomic bomb is better at killing than a grenade but I don’t want people walking around with either.

Yes, those weapons, not all weapons.

It worked wonders for you.

Probably not a massive one, but I don’t think gun regs are ever going to be the most impactful way to deal with America’s gun problem.

UBCs and nationally run carry/CC also have the added bonus of standardizing gun sales and many laws. I’m a sucker for consistency and efficiency.

There is a reason.

Yes. Like one day you will be old enough to drive.

I mostly skimmed the other thread, so if that’s the case I’ll take your word for it.

I don’t think character attacks have any place in a policy discussion, and that’s why I started this thread. To discuss policy.

Which is why the real issue is America’s crazy problem.

Also, and I think this is key, something that doesn’t add large inconvenience to 2A people is the only chance of something actually passing.

Too many people come up with scoff-worthy ideas that simply distract from the real conversation.

Plus being able to send people that sell guns to criminals regardless of sale method feels like a really effective way to lessen guns in the hands of criminals. People really hate going to prison.

Good point. Most 16-year-olds have massive respect for what can happen to them in an automobile.

You are around more of them than I.

This is already felony behavior. I’m still waiting for children to be put on camera pleading for more prosecution of straw purchasers and people who lie on ATF form 4473.

I’d rather instill a level of respect for weapons in my sons rather than hope restricting their access to some of them will do it for me. Personal opinion, obviously.

It doesn’t need free speech through social media, though, for example. Maybe we should not allow people under the age of 25 to have a facebook account. Make them feel like they earned it, right?

Correct. It’s about Right and the 2A is a codified individual right to arms. So, as I’ve said, re-write the 2A if it no longer applies.

Some of them. Maybe not all of them, but that’s not the point. Where is the right to drink codified in the COTUS? You Right to rent a car?

I’m not doing the whole emotionally driven rhetoric in this thread.

?

Confused…

I’m waiting for adults to actually do something…something.

Such as?

I’m not looking for votes.

Good talk.

Lying on the form without a background check can’t have that high of a failure rate. Would requiring a background check not remove the chance of being caught by a liar?

Also as I said upthread, I think a key point to any gun reg will be keeping inconvenience limited. Imo UBCs are a very low inconvience change considering the vast majority of gun sales are already doing it

This thread is a discussion about policy ideas.

You’re free to start another thread to lament the inaction of others,

Right? The honest to God truth of the matter is that no one really knows what to do. I mean, why in the fuck are 15-22-year-olds going on shooting sprees and offing themselves afterward. That’s something that didn’t really happen when I was in school and I’m not that old.

That’s a serious question that needs to be answered. Why in God’s name are kids so disenfranchised in America of all places that they feel this is their best course of action. That is a question that needs to be answered and addressed or legislation will do nothing.

If you are over 25 you shouldn’t want a FB account.

Well, isn’t this what some of us are doing here?

The same place where the right to own a semi auto or auto is written.

A 10 year old needs to learn gun safety and marksmanship on an AR-15?

Isn’t this thread indirectly doing that?
