But, that may actually be a training/SOP problem. Until recently that was what officers were trained to do. Departments are now moving towards a rapid response model where the first few officers on scene team up and go hunt the bad guy, but this may not be one of those departments.
But at the end of the day, procedures be damned, you’re the one who has to look yourself in the mirror. As a firefighter, we have our training and SOPs but, we discuss such issues amongst ourselves and our attitude is fuck 'em, we’ll do what we got to do.
Granted, we don’t face the same monsters the police do. They absolutely have a more dangerous job than we do, and it breaks my heart that they don’t get the love and respect from the public that we get.
I agree, before my current career I did EMS in a somewhat rural area (Virginia rural, not like, Montana rural) and you get privy to inside information like, there are only two deputies on duty tonight, and at any given time their response time could be 20 to 40 minutes.
I’m not sure who else would be the first response in a government school. It does demonstrate why having a/a few people designated to handle such situations is not a good idea. The more armed people, the better.
The NRA should support right wing politics. why on earth would an NRA member ever vote Democrat if that was an issue important to them? What should the NRA move left on in your opinion? Higher taxes? More regulation? Socialised medicine?
He called the NRA psychopaths for representing their members interest (rather effectively as of late). It’s perfectly rational and non-psycopathic to advocate for what your dues paying members want.
He doesn’t want average 19yo citizens to be allowed to buy semi auto rifles. That’s a position. Disagreeing with him doesn’t make the NRA psycopaths.
What he doesn’t know is you can’t give the statists even an inch on guns in this country, because they’ll take a mile.
lib·er·ty
ˈlibərdē/Submit
noun
1.
the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life, behavior, or political views.
“compulsory retirement would interfere with individual liberty”
I called the leadership of the NRA deranged. If you’re a member of something called a National Rifle Association why the fuck do you think that your opinion on Net Neutrality, Karl Marx and the Communist Manifesto should be relevant?
So it’s typical snowflake behavior, because they’re actually a political party masquerading as an “association”, deflecting every criticism with “you’re against us because you hate freedom and the 2A”
If that’s not the justly-maligned identity politics, I don’t know what is - because every single paying member of the NRA is losing sleep over the Communist Manifesto and it’s alleged impact on Black Lives Matter and “liberals”.
So LaPierre must restrain his comments to only gun policy? Okay. If he was taking a risk of losing members then he probably wouldn’t opine on those topics. Perhaps guys that enjoy owning guns lean right and don’t mind LaPierre mouthing off on the culture war. I wouldn’t know as I don’t have their focus groups on hamd.
If you don’t see any parallels between “community organizing” and alinsky style communist street agitation I don’t know what to tell you.
At this point we’ve derailed the thread quite thoroughly. Sorry for any crass response. I just don’t get where you’re coming from attacking a group that represents their constituents’ views. If only real political parties actually did that.
Back to policy: you feel semi auto rifles require a minimum age of 25. How would that lessen the chance of these mass shootings? Would this be an incrimental, non-perfect type thing? The Vegas guy was old as hell. And the rest of the mass shootings are all close range, where the advantage of rifles is a bit wasted.
They can have whatever opinions they want, that’s not the point - let’s just not pretend they are some benign organization whose priorities are making sure the youth of today point a .22 in a safe direction before they fire. The leadership are neo-Birchers, screaming about (non-existent) Bolsheviks around every corner and terrosists around every other corner. And saying Democrats want to extinguish all rights to firearms as a pretext to extinguishing all freedoms (!).
That’s rank, fringe idiocy.
No, taking psychopathic positions do - like believing in and trying to convince others of paranoid fantasies and habituating violence.
Bumper sticker nonsense. The “statists” were given an “inch” after the Great Depression, and instead of descending into socialist Lord of the Flies, we live in the wealthiest and most powerful and free nations on earth.
According to the right wing, libertarian fringe, we’re always - always - moments away from the country falling into a Dark Age of Socialism. Been that way for almost a century. But Birchers are gonna Birch, I guess. The combination of perpetual fear (“everything is scary!”), Chicken Little hysteria, and Boy Cried Wolf rate of success is why they largely get ignored.
18th freest nation on earth. With 20T in government debt, and trillions more in unfunded liabilities, a fiat currency, an unchecked spy program, a broken middle class and a broken political system.
They can say whatever they want - the contentious issue is that when challenged about some weirdly specific viewpoints (once again, how does an award to Ajit Pal for “saving the internet” relate to gun rights?) they resort to hiding behind their supposed concern for gun rights.
I suppose that in their warped mindset if you support net neutrality you hate freedom (!?)
Net neutrality issue is just one ludicrous example of this lunacy.
Identity politics as it finest.
That’s one aspect to address the “angry HS dropout scenario” - also yearly renewals, and a mandatory gun handling course for first-time owners that could be handled by a certified entity - a gun/hunting club/gun range or even…by something called the NRA, thus enabling self-policing.
I’m pretty sure someone would raise a red flag to the authorities after a week spent handling guns around psychopats such as Lanza, Cruz or Mateen.
@idaho floated much more informed opinions in the Tactical life thread.
Isn’t there a reason why that soldier chose a non-combat MOS in the first place? My recruiter thought I was retarded for choosing a combat support MOS.
I’ve never seen a fat Marine, maybe they are out there, but I’ve seen plenty of fat and lazy soldiers.
La Pierre is a douche… He makes everything sound like any change = no more guns. He just cares about proffits. Im not buying it. In reality responsible gun people would buy stuff no matter wait tines ect… He just wants fast unrestricted sales to appease gun makers… Its America dolla dolla bills yall
Weapon retention is a perishable skill. Although I highly doubt half of all people with CCWs have any retention training. And those that do have training don’t necessarily have the right kind since proper retention is a skill linked to unarmed self-defense training. How many people carry guns in order to not have to learn how to defend themselves without a weapon?
