Gun Love Thread

Three questions:

12 gauge for home protection, and obvi running 50-60 round through 3-6 times a year. Mossberg 500 good enough? And pistol grip or standard stock?

Also looking for a finger safe to bolt to the floor next to my bed to hold a revolver, and recommendations?

I have 3 safes in my home 2 liberty,s one Cannon. But have no info in small finger safes. As for the 12 gauge for home safety I own the Mossberg 500 also it had a pistol grip but I put a folding stock on it. My only question when people mention shotguns for the home is ā€œCornersā€ how many and how narrow is the hallway and corners. If for any reason you need to leave your room (to gather family members or whatever) that is something you might have to think about

Briefly talked about this gun before in another thread but allow me to re-illiterate, BEST HANDGUN EVER. Full steel frame, solid construction, fits like a glove, and fires like a dream. I would prefer this over the Browning Hi-power, any model Glocks, or the Springfield XD. Every county has that one thing they’re extremely good at manufacturing; Russia is good at Assault Rifles, Japan is good with Cars, and the Czech Republic is good with Handguns.

The way the house is set up, we wouldn’t be leaving the entrance of our door, and have a clear sight down the stairs. The stairs have a 90 degree at the landing. Anyone hits that landing isn’t going to be a happy camper.

That said, that is why I am leaning pistol grip… Easier to move around.

Agreed, pistol grip is better and if you can, get the 16 inch barrel (in some states you can get 14 inch) with a door buster muzzle brake on the end. take the plug out of the magazine so it can fit 5 with one in the chamber. i load mine with a slug first, two deer shot, number 4 shot, then 6 or 7 shot. so the first blast is a deterrent and the rest (if necessary) eliminate the threat.

I was under the impression that with the pistol grip any barrel less than 18.5" is federally breaking the law, as well as my state. I may have heard him wrong.

I hope to God I never need to use the weapon in a home defense capacity, that said, the only deterrent is the sound of racking. I’m not loading any shots that don’t eliminate the target immediately.

You don’t shoot to wound, particularly not in Liberal America where criminals are allowed to civilly sue you for shooting them while they try and rob/kill you.

I prefer to maim and watch them suffer. Im a female after all. in most states the 14 inch will have to meet certain conditions to be legal. the 16 inch with the added muzzle break brings it to the required 18.5

The pistol grip makes the shotgun a ā€œpistolā€ so you can get shorter. State laws may vary, especially in the Peoples’ Republic of Massaholia.

I have breached a few rooms in my day (I have over 100 forced entries under fire), and I strongly prefer a short barrel shotgun, NOT a pistol grip. You simply shoot from your waist.

Your choice is personal. I strongly prefer the Benelli M2 with a 2 round extender. I used very much this same shotgun in both Iraq and Afganistan. It’s auto-loader, so you can pop off a lot quickly. Plus, if you are a large guy, I have trouble fitting my fingers into some trigger guards. This is large, and I could do it with gloves on.

MA might not let you put on a round extender.

There are pump Benellis, as well (Super Nova). They are fantastic, but any pump gun is slower.

I would want a pump SG if I had kids, because I would leave it loaded, but not chambered, because by the time my children would have the physical ability to chamber a round, they would know better.

Do not be ashamed of a 20 guage. They are fantastic shotguns, and you wife won’t be scared of it.

A mossberg is a fine shotgun, as well. Heck the Chinese crap pumps for $150 are fine.

My wife and son have fired the 12 gauge and both did fine with it.

I am going pump for two reasons:

  1. Can leave it loaded, and the racking to chamber a round is the sound I want traveling through my house late night.
  2. My 15 year old boy can rack it, and have the shotgun in his hand legally with his FID card. And my daughter won’t be strong enough to chamber a round until she is old enough to know better. (Pretty much what you said.)

TTR, it seems you agree with much of the experienced communities I’ve spoken with, that the better you get with a SG, the less you like the pistol grip.

Guns you own, or are planning to buy. Not cannons or gatling guns or ridiculous stuff, stuff you own or are planning to buy in the next 12 months.

I haven’t been a gun owner but am planning to purchase this year. My wife and I frequent the gun range trying out different ones and figuring out which ones we like the best. Right now my heart is really into the .357 Magnum. I really like the weight and control of this gun. I also like the simplicity of a revolver and the inherent accuracy, so I think I have decided on that.

What’s your favorites that you own or are planning to own? I know some of you guys have arsenals… [/quote]

kel tec p11 9mm (with 2 standard 10 rnd mags and a 20 rnd extended clip, hi point .380 auto (3 spare mags), arcus 98b 9mm (2 mags), 12ga pump action shotgun, colt 1911 compact .45acp (4 mags), GSG5 .22lr (5 mags, scope, bipod, flashlight, lasersight, foregrip, and collaspable stock)…also looking into getting an AR-15 later this year (plus one of those fancy bump fire stocks that’ll legally turn your semi auto rifle into full auto without the need to apply for a class 3 permit)…gotta love my babies

Might want to double check barrel length for NFA regs. I believe shotgun has to have an 18 inch barrel and a rifle can have a 16 inch. If a rifle type receiver, AR, is licensed as a pistol then a short barrel is fine, just can not install full stock or you are back to a SBR, short barrel rifle I am not aware of a pistol registration for a shotgun. All I have used a pistol grip for is breaching doors they look cool but my accuracy suffers for any kind of distance shooting. That was just playing around with the breaching gun. If you want the pistol grip get a folder so you have a full stock as well, IMO.

Something I know a little more about. For the finger safe check out Gunvault I have two and one still has the same batteries from 12 years ago. Set the combo and you still have a key backup if batteries fail. You can cable lock it to something like a seat frame in a car or permanently mount it to wall or floor. You may want to be discrete about where it is mounted because there is no doubt what it is.

Best of luck

I think short barrel shotguns are classified as AOW or any other weapon for NFA regulations. I’m pretty sure it is like a $5 or $10 tax stamp as opposed to $200 plus for silencers/short barrel rifles/full autos. I’m also not sure if you can pick it up and go or have to wait 6+ months like the other stuff.

I have a CZ-52 that was converted to 9mm luger before I got it. Apparently it’s a really nice pistol with the original surplus Tokarev ammo, but I’m not too big of a fan of the 9mm conversion. I swear the thing weighs 10 pounds and you need two hands to pull the slide back and use the trigger. I’d like to put the 7.62 barrel back on it but they’re a couple hundred dollars from what I’ve seen. That and the surplus ammo isn’t really that cheap any more.

As for a rifle, I really like this one in .308 Winchester. When I am ready to plop down 2g’s on a rifle with a decent scope, this is the one I want. I am really in to handguns though, so it’s not going to be anytime soon.

Yeah, I like them alot. There’s a compact Kimber Custom II 1911 chambered in 9mm at my local shop that I really, really like. It’s also really expensive, but man is it sweet. I stare at it like a stripper.

Oh wow,why convert it to a 9? Was this before the big gun scare of 2012? I like the 52 but I never fired one before; How much did you get it for? It might cost a pretty penny but I’d convert it back.

BTW, Has anybody had any experience on the Ruger SR-556? My eyes have been on that thing since I got my tax return.

It was a gift from my brother. It was his starter pistol and now it’s mine. I guess the old surplus ammo this thing shot was made for submachine guns so someone decided to convert it to 9mm. The thing is pretty robust so it handled the hot rounds really well. I’d love to shoot the Tokarev ammo through it, but I don’t have 200 bucks to spend on a barrel right now.

I want a 45 so bad it’s insane. I have everything from .22-10mm in pistols I just don’t have a 45. And to be honest with everyone trying to but AK’s, AR’s now seems like a good time to get my 1911 of my dreams
