Gun Love II

Not sure if I want to go red dot or low mag scope for my AR.

I’m not going to be spending on an AIMPOINT unless I get one for 350 or less. Vortex came up , but at $180, the Bushnell TS-25 gets better reviews and is only $70 on Amazon right now lol.

Thoughts anyone?

If you’re considering a low powered scope, look hard at the Burris Tac30. Sportoptics has the best price on them that I’ve found. Red dots have their place too though.

Good eye, it’s a 10x SS. They’re my go-to scope if I don’t need high dollar glass (usually don’t!). Here’s a 12x on a bolt rifle, I set the factory barrel back and rechambered to .223 Ackley Improved. My son is fireforming some brass for me.
I have a 6 power model on my M14. Actually it’s a James River Armory M21 DMR, but most don’t know what an M21 is, few enough even know what the M14 is. I’ve been hunting with it, it’s a great scope! I’ll probably get a higher power model for long range, if I can ever find a place around here to shoot long range.
I’m very jealous! I’ve wanted one similar for a long time, but one hasn’t found its way into my hands yet.

Check out James River Armory, they’re great people and they make great products. You can buy a barreled receiver and bolt for about $1200, and get the rest of the parts yourself here and there. From what I understand fitting those three parts is the tricky thing.

I wanted a forged reciever, and from everything I’ve read JRA is producing the best forged receiver on the market. I know they say the cast receivers will last a lifetime but I have learned from my little bit of metal working experience that forged is absolutely stronger, and if you’re already dropping a dime you might as well get what you want.

I’ve seen this argument before and have no clue wtf either of them are. Please explain if you have time

It’s not that I don’t have the time it’s just that I’m not the best guy to try to explain it. I would suggest you look up M14 forums cast vs. forged receiver and read through the debates. With those guys it’s like the Star Trek vs. Star Wars, Batman vs. Superman, and Pirates vs. Ninjas debates all rolled into one.

I have both the Vortex and the Bushnell. I like the Vortex better. I think the dot is crisper and it comes with flip caps. I also like the power on and adjustment buttons better. I don’t think you can go wrong with the Bushnell though. I haven’t had any issues with it and for $70 its a bargain. I think I spent close to $100 for mine a while ago.

Tried the Burris Fastfire?? You can get it for $200 and I really like it the little experience I have had with it.

Also looked into that one.

Thing that keeps me leaning Vortex is the lifetime warranty, on electronics… That can’t be beat.

In a cast receiver, molten steel is poured into a mold and comes out looking pretty close to the final product, and any remaining machining is done. Steel consists of microscopic crystals that are oriented randomly as the steel cools and hardens. This is called the grain of the steel. This process also can leave voids, or hollow spots.

Forged receivers start out by casting molten steel into huge billets in a steel mill. It goes through hot roll first, where its heated red hot and goes through dozens of rollers that mold the steel into a bar shape. This slso aligns the grain of the steel and makes it stronger for our purposes. Then it goes to cold finish, where the cold bar is forced through a die to finish the process. Then it’s shipped to the gun manufacturer where a chunk is cut off and put in a forge that beats it to the right shape, and then final machining is done.

My day job is in the steel industry.

Beans i wish i would have seen this a couple days ago, PSA had the Bushnell with the AR height riser for 60 bucks shipped. I just checked for you, but theyre out of stock on them right now.

I have the Bushnell and have had no problems with it, but i just scored a good deal on a EOTech XPS2 a couple days ago and im looking forward to getting it sighted in and getting some rounds downrange.

I felt this was worth a repost…

I was like this onceâ?¦right up until I ran into some guys who could really burn it down. When I shot with those guys, they embarrassed me. They reloaded faster, they shot faster. They shot more accurately. They made me look like the amateur I was, and the â??testsâ?? we thought were so great were nothing more than bad habit forming tasks that were performed on large steel targets that werenâ??t that far away, and those guys that schooled me on what real gun slinging wasâ?¦they looked like possessed automated robots performing some anger inspired synchronized skill that made me want to be better.

You can fool yourself repeatedly with steel targets if youâ??re not careful, both in speed and accuracy. Itâ??s unwise to make yourself feel good about something you really suck at by using a large gong as your biggest fan, letting it talk to you and tell you lies. Iâ??ve been there, I know. I still see it in others sometimes.

Just when I get fast, I suck at bulls. Then Iâ??m hammering 10 rings, and I have splits that Iâ??ll try to ignore. There is no ignoring; there is only a constant battle between The Two. At some point, most will make the target bigger, or get closer, or both, to try and make it right in their mindâ?¦.the speed, the accuracy. I know, Iâ??ve been there a few times. What is too small a target? What is too fast a time? There is no such thing, but the paper will show you the way.

The cycle never ends.

I like shooting with someone else that can push me. I like doing straight up shooting tests with timers. I like doing it with equal guns. No fucked up, unrealistic gear, no competition gaming mentality, just me, him and the deed.

A good shooter with a weak body and weak mind will lose against the one who has the physical ability to crush you and the mental ability to do it repeatedly. You donâ??t get strong by thinking about it. You get strong by lifting a heavy object over and over againâ?¦ lifting steel. Thoughts turn to what exercises will help me thrust a blade, climb, carry, or hold my own weight and the weight of others? What can I do to ensure I get someone out of harmâ??s way? There is only one prescription- jacking steel. It never changes. It never gets lighter. You lift more. It should hurt. I workout alone, there is too much talking with a partner, too much posturing. I get in and get it done like a lightning fast assault. It shouldnâ??tâ??t take 2 hours. Water and rest are for later.

10 rings and A zones never change sizes. A 180 lb man is always 200 + on the day. Paper and steel donâ??t lie."

Shooting some homemade steel targets my buddy and I made. Worked out pretty well I think.

Good read, and a good reminder that I am nowhere remotely close to my potential with my firearm skills.

Thanks man. I’ll just wait for a sale. the UTG QD rail I’ll put it on is only like $18 so all told I’ll be in this for less than $100, which means the Vortex I’ve been eyeing would need to break and be replaced twice before the warranty was worth it.

Thanks man. I have some work to do I’m pretty slow, especially the first shot from the holster.
Hers is my first shots of the day where I get lucky and hit a silhouette at about 75-100 yds

Found it 49.99 with high mount included, free shipping for $50+, so I got two, lol. One for the AR and one for the MINI14.
