Furthermore, I would also add that it is very likely many gun laws in this country will be repealed following the outcome of McDonald v. Chicago. Your assertion that the NYC gun laws are just, by virtue of having been passed into law and staying that way for a while, is also flawed.
If those laws we based on faulty interpretation of the Second Amendment, then they will indeed be challenged and removed.

I have a CCW here in Virginia, and am very glad I live in a ‘shall issue’ state. I’m originally from New York, which has some of the worst gun laws in the country.
Gettinitdone: While I respect your opinion, to me your words only strengthen the position that we’d be better of with more legal gun owners. You note that in NZ the regular police often carry tasers, but that only “some gang members don’t carry [pistols].” I’d feel much more comfortable if the majority of the guns in my country were NOT owned illegally by gang members.

You guys got some good stuff going on in VA right now.

Criminal were not criminal from the day they were born. People are not waiting to commit a crime, it just happens because of the situation. For example, a fight between a guy and his wife, it happens. In the emotion he can pick his gun and kill

It was three years ago, I was 21 years old when it happened. I was working for a pizza restaurant at the time and I wanted to fuck my assistant manager. One night, she called me from our store, and said her truck had a flat tire and didnâ??t know how to change it. Being the opportunistic man that I am and hoping to score some major brownie points, I offered to drive up and help her out. It was well past midnight, but this particular neighborhood wasnâ??t what I considered â??bad or rough.â?? As a matter of fact, it was my neighborhood. I decided to grab my gun as it was new and I thought it was cool to carry because I am really into that. I like to hang out with my gun, it makes me feel powerful. After all, I had never had any serious confrontations with anyone. I didnâ??t make waves or get into dangerous situations. This night, on the other hand, changed my mind forever.
When I arrived, she was standing by her truck underneath a light in the parking lot. Even though company policy forbids it, I always had a firearm in my glove compartment when I delivered pizzas. In this instance, it was my Springfield 1911. I opened the glove compartment, took the pistol and holster, and tucked it in my waistband. The streets were pretty clear, and it was a cool, calm night. I spent the next few minutes trying to figure out how to release her spare tire from underneath her truck. Once I finally got it, I began loosening the lug nuts with her tire iron. I set the wrench down, and I began to jack up her truck.
We had been making good conversation until she stopped in mid sentence. She looked at me and said, “Someoneâ??s coming over.” I looked over my shoulder and saw a homeless man shuffling toward us.I am really afraid of homeless people and I tought from the begginning he was up to no good. I ignore them habitually but I had to talk to him. I stood up and asked him to get away. He asked me if I was trying to change a tire. I said yes, he asked if I needed any help. I responded no as I had done this numerous times before. He said okay, turned around, and started back.
I sat back down and began to remove the tire when the man insisted that he help us. I pushed my friend to the other side of the truck and put my hand on my waistband. The man suddenly burst out screaming that no one wanted him, and no one wanted his help for anything anymore. He started screaming and yelling, and pacing back and forth. He has clearly mental problem and I aint gonna be kind with him because he is ugly and poor. He continued to shout incomprehensibly when he bent down and snatched the tire iron screaming, “I’ll show you Im not useless!” I pulled out my 1911, pointed at him and shouted, “Drop the tire iron or Iâ??ll drop you!” He screamed and dropped the tire iron. He ran away yelling at us that we were crazy and he was only trying to help.
I waited for him to retreat behind a grocery store, and I finished changing her tire. Afterward, we went inside the closed pizza restaurant to calm down. As we were having a drink and talking about what just happened, I realized something. I really like mah gunz

JP: Yeah. A lot of that has to do with the fact that we are finally rid of gun-hating Tim Kaine. He vetoed almost every gun bill that came across his desk. Good riddance!

Gettnitdone you are a dumb ass. A “racist” old man that killed two helpless african americans, that just happen to have been robbing his neighbors house. You sir have your values on backwards. I am pretty sure that if he actually shot thieves, he was justified in doing so. I am assuming he gave them a warning to stop, at that point if they threatened him it is green for gun fire. We can’t just shoot thieves or some one committing an illegal act. Even if you shoot some one and it seems justifiable you will have to defend yourself in the court of law most likely. Wait a fucking minute your from New Zealand can you even own guns? Do you own any? If not read my earlier thread where I said if your country wont allow you to own guns or you dont own any then you have no clue what is right or wrong with all this bullshit you are spewing.
And there are shitloads of examples of guns stopping crimes. I am a member of the NRA in my magazine I get every month there is a page dedicated to short articles describing such examples.
Man stfu im trying to have a civilized discussion over the internet and you have to resort to name calling and writing sentences no one can understand. [\quote]
Ok first you fail because you are trying to have a civilized discussion on the internet. Secondly, tell me what sentence you can’t understand. Thirdly, your opinion is horse shit since you live in a pansy ass country named New Zealand, that hardly has guns. I am almost sure I have read more books then you unless you read books for a living, so fuck yourself for that one also. And in all honesty you say that the huge islanders will fuck you up, they wouldn’t if they were afraid you could be carrying a gun.

Every country needs strict gun laws because obviously there are some retards like Plax and Gilbert Arenas who are a danger to themselves and others (they are dumb asses).

Do you even realize how you sound? New York has some of the strictest gun laws in the US and yet Plaxico was still walking around strapped.
What’s the answer now since the strict laws obviously aren’t working? Do we need even stricter and stricterer laws?

You sound retarded. Maybe wimpy liberals overreact like hysterical women, but most gun owner do and will not. Stats have borne this out over years.
I have had many knock down drag out fights with my wife and never laid a hand on her, let alone pull a gun on her. It’s called self control.
But to many liberal types think everyone is capable of acting like a fool and using viloence to solve a problem, merely because they are angry.
But they’re wrong. Scumbags do scumbag things. Law abiding citizens abide laws.

Well post exemplar cases where guns have prevented crimes.
Here’s a whole site dedicated to finding/archiving news stories that get buried. Many times in a news story you will see it reported that ‘a gunman was neutralized by so-and-so’ and talk about how brave s/he was, but they never mention that they were armed in self-defence.
“Operation: Self-Defense”
Some of the links are broken as online newspapers tend to break links when stories go to archive. With a little effort you can find the broken stories via headlines or reasonable search criteria.

people are not always innocent. I may be innocent one day but the other I get crazy and kill someone with my gun.
I see I haven’t missed much in the three months I’ve been elsewhere. I swear, those that support the infringement of rights down deep really just don’t trust themselves.
At the risk of educating some of those T-Nation readers that are ignorant of the U.S Constitution, here’s an article discussing incorporation of the 2nd Amendment via the Privileges or Immunities Clause of the 14th Amendment. McDonald v. City of Chicago is argued next month (March 2).

You must live in constant fear thinking that everyone around you is a potential criminal just waiting for the chance to commit murder.
If you take away guns you will only be taking them away from people who are responsible law abiding citizens. Funny thing about criminals…they dont care if something is illegal. They will keep their guns. And since no one else would have one…they would be free to victimize anyone they choose.
I am not paranoid thinking I am surrounded by potential criminals. But I do know that sometimes things happen (wrong place/wrong time) and its best to be prepared.
I still think you watch way to many crime/police dramas on TV.
