Staying the pocket is kinda a meme at this point. I think Joey Franzo coined the phrase. He coaches current IPF world champs so probably knows what’s up. It’s kinda nebulous in meaning. In principle it’s like u say.
In practice it’s strategies to squeeze in as much productive training as possible like leaving reps in the tank like controlling exertion load/strain, controlling volume/workload and auto regulating up and down based on feedback from performance data. For strength the power training bar speed is indicative of fatigue accumulated so if ur smashed RPEs will be higher and weight will move subjectively and objectively worse. When weights moving good you feel good we go bigger but not too big.
Easy rule of thumb is very rarely exceeding an RPE nine in training. Closer to failure lifting accumulates more fatigue than low RPE training and heavy weights increase fatigue too so ideally during training we hit PRs if they are there to be hit at sub nine or estimated 1RM PR without actually going to RPE 9 or testing.
I think it’s these ways of being responsive to feedback from the training process that enables one to stay in the pocket. Neither conservative or aggressive but just what is appropriate at any given time
Me quads sore af. Very much delayed onset muscle soreness because after I hit the squat PRs I was teaching the whole day and nadda but later that evening soreness came on hard and still around Today.
Hopefully clears up tomoz because seeing Jamal Browner deadlift 476 has me pretty pumped up. I think I’ll go into McQuinns and hit some meme deadlift volume. Haven’t used the phat bumper plates for a bit so that’ll be fun
Yeah that was completely nuts!
Although sumo. So it translates to like a 210 kg real deadlift. If he keeps going he could become a real good lifter one day.
Yea yea, we all know your pattern “oh I’ve got serious DOMs and I’ve not eaten in 6 weeks or slept in a year, I’ll take it easy… 10 mins later … Easy PR squat and bench”
Everything is possible I guess. Not too many easy meme deadlift PBs left to hit so unless tomoz is extraordinarily good then I’ll just settle for a volume PB.
Unlikely but not impossible lel. If I was gonna predict id say like 5x5 at 230kg. Minimum 220kg. Top end probs wont pull more than 250kg for a top set / rep PB if things are moving well even if I’m somehow capable of more. Stay in the pocket
My state is going back into lockdown. Will be stricter than before. I’m in a regional/rural area so less strict but don’t think I’ll be able too visit my friends home gym.
Frustrating considering the new power rack is coming in next week. Not sure if I’ll be able to continue work/study to the full because I’m doing that thru a school and they are going into remote learning.
Was planning too visit a commercial gym in town today but considering the virus is picking up went to my mate’s place instead so no meme deadlifts unfortunately.
Still sore from the last PB squat sesh so stayed in the pocket for a tough workout.
Hit a PR pause deadlift single at 230kg. Wasn’t moving super well but on a positive note I’ve been wedging into position consistently well as of recently so that’s technique gains.
Heavy work wasn’t happening today so backed off with volume: Romanian DLs at 180kg x reps, technically a PB because the most I’ve done in any conventional variation.
