Doherty’s Gym Melbourne City early morning with the gym nemesis.

Bag strap exploded on the way. It’s the clip so can’t replace it. Looks like it’s time to retire this bag. We’ve been through so much together. Sad face RIP

Turns out Doherty’s City Gym actually flooded a few days ago due to big rains so platform was soaked through. It splashed when I lowered the bar lol and dangerously slippery. Had to move to the floor adjacent lol.


Pause Deads

Today on the Rogue Ohio DL bar. Opened up my shin on the first warm up with one plate lol.

Next set my thumb nail opened old scabs up my thigh in the same spot as last time except since this was reopening something that wasn’t fully healed it bled worse.

Infection gains.

Texas Deadlift Bar Master race confirmed.

This week Paused Deadlift intensity bumped up 15-20kg out of nowhere looked intimidating coming in but it moved well. Probably bumpers helping too much on a DL bar so upped the weight a smidge on the working Sets and hit a top paused single @ 180kg light weight baby. Heaviest I’ve handled on pauses but ez

Swapped one set of rows with the “Sumo Stance Bent Over Barbell Row”.

Look at me I invent exercises now. Cailer Woolam can fuck off with his rows. This right here is the peak of sumo deadlift assistance. Secret to infinite sumo gains

All jokes aside it’s not bad actually being able to mimic the starting torso angle of the sumo. Maybe one to substitute in for barbell rows in future or do it Pendlay Row style off the floor. Thoughts @chris_ottawa

Good deadlifts but tired me out a bit. Spotos getting challenging enough today. Dunno if they’ll do me good down the track we’ll see.

Good sesh. I’m not usually good in the mornings but went swimmingly today.

Surprised how much bumper plates add with a deadlift bar since I used em for the first time in a while. Glad I made the switch to calibrated plates 95% of the time gonna do me good come meet day.

Just replace it with a metal key ring or circular carabiner from super cheap auto

How does a cut at that angle happen?

It was from one of those metal platforms that you can raise up or down and use for step ups or box squats. I was walking past it in the gym and don’t have very good special awareness.

Watch where your going lol. Next time you are gonna walk right into someone squatting and both take a tumble

Given I train in the shed alone (other than when the Swedish girl is there) there is not much chance of me bumping into anyone !!

Been a long day and took a glance at my macros and seems I haven’t even made a dent.

Time for a big shake

I often end up downing a shake at the end of the day.

I don’t think night is the best time for whey and I got no casein also I’m paranoid that a massive blast of protein in such a short time period will get me less gains than spreading it out

Week In Review - 4 Weeks Out

Been a good week overall.

Had several days of very poor sleep (2-4hrs) and helped my dad out at work a bit so considering that it went well.

Of the 4 days of training this week 3/4 went good and the one that didn’t was more a result of having gone ham the previous day.

I think “good” workouts are in a 2:1 ratio for me so it’s been a good week.

Technique wise the cues of “Upright” on squat and “Long Arms” + others on squat and deadlift respectively have worked extremely well. Technique peaking just in time for the test I think. Bench hasn’t quite been going so well hopefully it’ll peak for the test but no sign of that yet.

Haven’t been good enough in my sleeping and drinking water. Consistency and shit is important.

Next week is the last week of strength building and then it’s into a short peak and test.

Still not confident in hitting big PRs but I’m hoping for a little something something on each lift to set me up with accurate maxes for the program to work with for 6 months leading into the meet.

Gym Nemesis Update

Final stages of return from lower back injury. Strength is coming back fast but he is playing it slow and safe. I intimidated him with my sumo DL display today. Gotta play those mind games. To be fair he intimidated me with his benching which is already returned to stronger levels than me (he’s at ~130kg max currently I estimate) and probably more to come.
