It looks to me like he is trying to do a continental clean since it is difficult to keep your grip when using an axle for a bar (can’t hook grip, etc.). Of course it appears he has no mass to actually catch the bar on for the continental so he just pretends by leaning back in that silly manner. Can’t fault the guy for throwing technique into the wind just to get a weight, solid efforts always by DW. Too bad he doesn’t strengthen his entire body enough to keep form on max attempts, well too bad for him and good for those that are amused by his videos.
The best thing about the 485 DL is that he hangs on where most would let go. That little man will fight through some fugly-assed lifts. My unprincipled, dytopian side is very tickled that DW is on his well on his way to becoming the best known stength athlete on the net.
Can’t question his spine. After having seen his first video a few months back, I thought it would only be a matter of time until it’s pop goes the weasel…

Like someone said earlier if you click on his name (dieselweasel) you’ll get all his other videos. On his deadlifts they aren’t that bad…with the 455x1 cause he’s not really a big guy or anything…everytime he deadlifts though he does that leg thing…like brings the weight up with his leg by moving it…anyone else notice that…is that even allowed?

actually, even his deadlifts are bad. he’s short and light (makes relative strength easy), and i estimate that the most he could DL in a meet is 350. good for somebody who’s just weak, but not that good. if his deadlift was actually good then he’d be cleaning a lot more. he’s apparently not.
his butt is incredibly weak compared to his back and maybe hamstrings that he’s able to get the weight to above his knees fine but can’t lock it out. he does what’s called hitching (humping the bar) and ramping (resting and ‘rolling’ the bar up the thighs). both of which would not pass in a meet. because he ramps so much he’s able to move his right foot. not a real DL.

watch the video closely. that was no continental clean. that was a crappy ass power clean with crappy ass form. he got the weight high enough but was too weak and crappy formed to catch it. he let it drop lower then tried to recover. he decided to call it continental because of his ego.

IMO, he cant get stronger due to program design and probably diet. this is a good thing because if his neural drive was improved he’d experience the trouble his form causes.
beginners and low level intermediates can get away with crap form sometimes for this reason, IMO.
I can see how the video can be funny no doubt. But at the same time I just can’t help but feel sorry for the kid. It seems he’s trying to better himself, but obviously lacks the knowledge and guidance from someone older or more experienced.
Holy crap! How his lower back hasn’t exploded I don’t know. He is in for a world of hurt one day though.
I can’t believe he actually picked up 485. I don’t care how you lift it, that is heavy. That is a testament to just how much force the body can tolerate.
Is there any way to download those videos? I think they would fit nicely into the Test Fest Low Back Injury presentation. I’ll have to check with Phil to see if there will be internet connection in the room.

Its genetic. Humans are drawn to disasters. Look how drivers behave on a highway passing a wreck. They have to stop and look. Its inborn,
This guy has been a disaster in the making for a long time, and insists on flagging it to the world with his videos.
Not only is he producing excellent material for orthopedic and sports doctors to illustrate what not to do (hell, I could never even imagine screwing up a clean as badly as he did in that video; I honestly did not know that bending like that was humanly possible. For Gumby, maybe, but not a flesh and blood human) but he is leaving a tremendous trail of source material for shrinks to work on the psychiatry of all this. He may well end up in textbooks both on orthopedics and on psychiatry.
Its not as if no one has warned the guy, but he persists in lifting in the most bizarre ways and in showing it to the world.

I would normally agree with your line of thinking on this one, ZEB, but when he was on here and posting, it did not matter what anyone told him. He was convinced he knew best. Sad huh?
I can’t even believe how pathetic his front squats are! Usually I won’t knock a guy for trying but damn. This guy will attempt a 485 dead lift yet fails on his 3rd rep of 155 on a front squat (knees wrapped). That failed 3rd rep was funny as hell, it looked like he lost control of the weight and dropped the bar right on his legs. Hard to tell with the slo-motion. I guess he had no choice. With some big bumper plates and a platform you can ditch the weights rather easily. He’s an idiot!

i have spent enough time discussing his training with him to know that he’s a complete idiot who wouldn’t take an inkling of advice from anybody who knows better than him. multitudes of others have been shot down by his stupidity.
he’s told respected coaches to ‘eat a dick.’ he is retarded.
i look forward to the day that his spine shoots out his ass.

Zeb, DW had his own thread on here for a while, where many people gave him solid advice on where his weaknesses were and how to fix them. He has completely ignored everything we and other boards have said regarding training and technique. People have tried to help him. Even Jim Wendler from Westside has called him out on his form.
At this point, I would have to invent a new language to describe how fucking stupid DW is, so I won’t say any more.

I second that this guys back and joints most be made of some tough stuff. I doubt the could take it forever.
DW posts quite a bit on Brutestrength, but I don’t recall seeing a lot of videos posted. He did compete in a strongman comp recently and took second or third in his weight class.
