Kirk Karwoski, the king of intensity.

e took about ten years off after retirement and came back and squatted 846 with just a belt. And talk about deep!! If you havent seen his video, buy it… he does 1000x2 in training.

ah look at those teeny quads. more proof that power squats do nothing for the quads.

I always thought this was impresive. A totaly raw 270KG triple at 91 kg bodywt.

Yes it is!

quite easily the most impressive squat listed by far.

so a 45 year old man squatting just under four times his body weight is easily eclipsed by a triple body weight 600 pounds squat?

I wouldn’t say eclipsed, but doing a triple with triple your bodyweight is nothing to snuff at, particularly when the squat is more of an assistance lift for your sport (oly lifting).

I saw a video of that lifting session and he did snatches and C&J before the back squats.

oh yeah…

well I saw a video of Hatfield chugging a dozen beers before squatting 1014 lbs…

beat that!

During the sqaut challenge between Dr. Squat and Tom Platz, Dr. Squat tripled I believe 815-825lbs in a sick fashion. Tom Platz squatted 505 23 times I think and Dr. Squat did 18 I believe.

Another good one.

At the 1998 Worlds, less than 12 hours after he had attempted to break the world record in the clean and jerk, 77-kg Idalberto Arranda, Cuba, polished off his workout by banging out 290 kg for a double–high bar, close stance, rock bottom, with no belt or spotters.

It may be me, but i think oly lifters are far more impressive tha a fully geared power lifter doing a half squat half goodmorning hybrid lift.

The List:

Dave Waddington 1000+ @ 275

Fred Hatfield 1014@255(at an age of 45)

Shane Hamman 1008@superheavy bodyweight of ?

Kirk Karwoski 1003@275

Dave Panasella 1022@275

Greg “Beatle” Lowe 1000lb?

OD Wilson 1002? @ 300+?

All these squats were WAY deep with crappy gear that didnt amount to sh*t. The last squat on this list was done in the IPF by Shane Hamman in 1995. Ten years ago and the advances in gear still has not allowed another man to touch it.

Thats why these squats are on this list.

Once again, check out the videos.

Nobody heard of Bud Jeffries? Okay, he’s 350lbs or something ridiculous like that but nobody can knock a 1000lb BOTTOM squat.

Christ almighty, they’re two different sports! If you want to talk about pure athleticism, probably oly lifters have the edge. Pure weight moved, powerlifters probably have the edge. If you want to go the “powerlifters are fatties” route, okay, but there are plenty of olympic lifters who are so paranoid about expending energy and reducing explosiveness that they avoid all cardiovascular training to the point that walking across a gymnasium could leave them out of breath. A powerlifter may not be able to do a 150kg snatch, but an olympic lifter may not be able to do a 400lb good morning.

For the record, I am more impressed by olympic lifting also, but just realize that you’re discussing two very different sports, and it’s silly to equate them.

I realize they are two differnet sports. I realize the squats are technically different. I realize its comparing apples to oranges. The name of the thread has something to do with impressive squats. I posted two that I feel are pretty damn impressive, knowing full well I would get flammed because they arent as heavy as some the powerlifters listed.

Are the powerlifter impressive? Sure, but I feel these are more so. That’s it, it’s my opinion. I don’t think its soley the amount of wt lifted that makes a squat look good. Look at these guys guys, rock bottom, no spotters, maybe just wraps and still moving a good amount of wt. To me its almost like art.

none of Ed Coen’s 1000+ lbs squats in the USPF make the list?

ahahha I will see if i can find the vid for you. You have to get a vid of your buddy drinking the beers though!

I say they all do, BUT I found out his 1038 was done with monolift in the WPO. So, does he have USPF 1000+ lifts? List em.

I cannot imagine how they support over a thousand pounds on their backs.
