Years back in a climbing gym in San Diego I met a 13 year old kid who was leadclimbing the toughest route in the gym with perfect form and agility. It was almost like watching spiderman rock climb. After he came down, I shook his hand and complimented him on the climb - though he only came up to my shoulder, his hands were as big as mine, and just as strong, if not stronger. He told me that he was in training for his SECOND assent of El Capitan in Yosemite.
I lift with a powerlifting team so there are some good moments like when some one squats what would be a world record and you are right there spotting the weight and able to truly appreciate there ability.
After working my ass off and getting a new PR on bench looking up to see the strongest 198 on the planet noding his head.
One thing was good and bad at the same time. I was doing the rear delt machine (facing in on a fly machine) and straight in front of me is a sexy blonde on the abductor machine “thank god the pad was in front of me I could have walked around the gym with a 5 lbs plate with no hands if you get my drift” however because of this I really couldn’t pay attention to my form. But hey beggers can’t be choosers.
When I lived in another part of the state I use to workout at this hole-in-the-wall gym. It was for anyone who was interested in getting into Olympic weightlifting. The guy that ran the place who is now a great friend wouldn’t turn down anyone as long as they showed that they were dedicated and willing to work. There were several kids who were around 8-12 y.o. already competing in competitions.
We only trained on M,W,F and each day you would see these youngs kids–alert, attentive, never questioning, eager to learn and get better, and ALWAYS giving their best effort. It was a joy to watch young kids enjoy something with that much enthusiasm and dedication. And hell most of them were pretty damn good for their age. Sometimes I just stopped my workouts to watch them.
I workout at home, but my girlfriend goes to LA Fitness. The other night she saw a guy doing one-arm barbell snatches with 135. She said, “He’s my new hero.”

When I see people do that, no matter how they are training. Makes me smile and feel fuzzy inside, albeit on the fuzzy stuff.
What do you mean by albeit on the fuzzy stuff???
A man in his 50s, about 6’2" at 225. He looks very good. Solid build. At his height, he looks like either a largely pumped up swimmer or light basketballer. Either way, he’s symmetrical and carries his size well and with grace. After about a month of random spotting each other, he clues me in on a little secret. He opens his wallet and shows me a picture of a man 100 pounds heavier dated February 2004. It was him. He adapted a quote of a picture he had seen of an incredibly fit senior citizen, complete with six-pack and definition. The caption of that picture: “Growing old is for sissies.” He has been my inspiration ever since.
Here’s one I saw last fall. I was with my daughter playing volleyball at our local YMCA. They have a pretty serious weightroom there. We were in the gym playing volleyball on the ground floor. About where the second story would normally be there is a track that circles the gym. There was a guy there with a fifty pound dumbell in each hand. He was lunge walking and he wasn’t cheating on the lunges either. Since I was playing my game I couldn’t watch him all the time but every time I looked up he was still going. This went on for about 25 minutes. I don’t know what he was training for but he was shredded and obviously in tremendous physical condition.
All the personal trainers in my gym are scrawny, skinny bastards who don’t know how to train people!
I saw this one guy who walks around with eye liner on(no,not rockstar eyeliner either) and pink lip stick and he’s so gay.
He doesn’t have one ounce of muslce on him and he trains his clients with these stupid, soy boy workout machines.
I never,not once,see him use a bench press,shoulder press,dead lift,squats,not even leg presses.
He just sits there with his fat clients doing bicep curls and tricep kick-backs.
He has the “I’m a personal trainer” egotistical attitude too.
If I was the owner of the gym,I’d fire all of them and get some REAL personal trainers,if there are any.
Theres only one good personal trainer I know of and he’s in the military.
He is usually there in the mornings ,though(I workout at night).

I saw a heavy (not obese, but definitely thick and very out of shape) chick metamorphose into a legit hottie in about 8 months.
These are as good a catch as a girl who was ugly as in high school and then got mad hot for college. they are usually not snobs and are genuinely nice girls.
I saw this HOT chick boxing at my gym. Her trainer asked for it was either 50 hooks or jabs ? I don’t remember the call exactly. She delivered 30, turned her head, PUKED, and as if nothing happened, continued to deliver the remaining 20 with even more power.
She then moved on to hanging leg raises while her trainer punched her in the gut between reps.
Cthulhu- I think you may have missed the point of this thread so perfectly it would seem deliberate.
As for me, seeing a 130 lb 6’ kid struggling to bench 95 for his last set. It’s very humbling to watch because four short months ago, I was right there with him.
There are no big dudes at my gym this summer. A nice group of dedicated little guys so, sooner or later, one of us has to cross that line.

Ha Ha, very funny!!! LOL
(I suspect some of them might, but I can tune them out.)
I did get a huge laugh one day when one guy says to his buddy, “Hey, she lifts more than you do!” I was doing clean and presses at the time…
Haha. And very nice I may add. I know that made you feel good.
I had my first training session with a new client this morning. We are training for a series of figure shows starting in August. She has won everyone she has entered since last year so I am excited to have a chance to work with her.
This morning there were a bunch of guys doing regular dips and assisted dips so I asked if we could work in. Only two could do unassisted dips and they were struggling. They asked me what assisted weight to change it to and I said I got it.
I took the assistance off the machine and she was doing unassisted dips with a 30 olb dumbell. She busted out 20 reps on her first set. It was great seeing the looks on the guys faces and they were all of a sudden done using the machine.
