Good thing he settled down after that and the party went on. I asked a friend and found out he played college football on a scholarship and was trying to go pro. I don’t believe that it does drive a wedge between people. The persecution of blacks in Africa developed in parallel with the persecution of natives exported to the U.S and other countries.
It has fuck all to do with political correctness. Slavery and exploitation was just as prevalent in Africa as it was in America. The critical difference is that African-Americans developed a sub-culture that has outgrown the reach of racially motivated people (who were never that clever in the first place tbh, just ‘in the right place at the right time’).
In the end, slavery has well and truly backfired on racists because popular music (blues, R&B, rap) and dance (Capoeira, Breakdance, Streetdance) have come to dominate the charts, cinema and everyday life. As a result, the likes of P Diddy and Jay-Z are wealthier and more infuential than any slave master who ever lived.
This emergence of African-American sub-culture into the mainstream is why we are having this debate in the first place. Fifty years ago ‘nigger’ was interchangeable with the Afrikaans equivalent ‘Kaffir’.
To date, there isn’t a single example of a black African calling themselves or their peers ‘Kaffir’, or of white South Africans using it as verbal handshake - unlike the use of ‘nigger’ in the U.S.
