Got Skyr?

Meet Skyr, Yoghurt’s Nordic cousin.

So far i haven’t seen it on any diet plan here on T-Nation and i think it’s strange since i see cottage cheese alot.
Skyr is nearly the same when it comes to nutrition values.

“skyr is roughly 12% protein, 3% carbohydrate, and 0.5% fat. It is high in calcium.”

I’m from Iceland and i love this stuff. When it’s plain it doesn’t really taste special. But here’s what i like to do.

Take something like 250 g skyr, one egg and a bunch of raisins.

1.Mix the egg (eat the yolks, folks) and skyr together.
2.Add raisins.
3.???
4.grow!

It’s delicious.

Here’s the wikipedia page on Skyr. Skyr - Wikipedia

“skyr is roughly 12% protein, 3% carbohydrate, and 0.5% fat. It is high in calcium.”

what makes up the other 85% LOL, or am I missing something here or are you talking about daily values of each nutrient?

It’s slightly better than the Greek stuff IMO. It’s prohibitively costly though.

I’ve never heard of it, but I would try it if I found it. Mmmm cultured dairy products.

Water, perhaps?

Will it give me the power of a Nordic thunder God? Bring on the skyr! It just sounds cool.

If you eat skyr you will strike people with the power of Thor’s mighty hammer and grow a massive thick thunderbeard which has magnetic powers on women.

Also it’s pronounced not sky-r but you say the y like the I in India.

You can get it flavored too, without sugar.
It’s like cottage cheese nutritionwise, but doesn’t taste like ass
Skyr.is ftw

do they sell it in the US? I am intrigued…

Yes they do sell it in US, Ive seen it at Wholefoods…its expensive though.

I haven’t found any flavor that tastes better than the skyr egg and raisins mix.

WholeFoods even has several different brands. It’s good stuff.

how does it compare, taste wise to plain greek yogurt? is it the same sort of taste/texture? the nutritional profile is pretty much indentical

This whole thread is just a big tease, since it is only available on the east coast.

Honestly it’s pretty much as good as the Greek stuff. Fage is excellent and cheaper than the Skyr. It’s really more a matter of opinion which is better because both are very high quality… Especially compared to Dannon.
