Good vs Good??? or Vice Versa?

Ok everyone, this is what I’m after:

Educate me. I want to know only what the good things are about each candidate. If you’re Pro-Bush or Pro-Kerry, even Pro-whoever the hell, let’s hear why your guy/girl is best. If you must include negative aspects of another candidate, post your stuff elsewhere. All I want to hear are the positive attributes of whatever candidate you are for, any negative talk about another candidate is a self condemming admission to pure and outright stupidity, so let’s hear it, bring on the goods!

Thanks for the opportunity!

I first became aware of John Kerry when I heard tapes of his impassioned speech to the Congress.

When I heard this 27-year-old ask those bunch of dried up old white men, “How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?” (in reference to the Vietnam War, I knew that this was a guy who was going places.

Later, I read some of his missives from Vietnam to his wife. They were some of the most articulate letters I’d ever read. I started to hope, pray, that maybe we had the makings of a “Poet King,” in other words, some one with strength, grace, intelligence, and compassion like the rulers of old.

So when Kerry started his campaign, I got real excited.

I like his intelligence, I like his compassion. I like his tax plan (to reward businesses who don’t outsource jobs by giving them hefty tax breaks).

I like the goal of getting more teachers on board and giving them the respect they deserve. I like the fact that he wants to strengthen law enforcement by hiring more policemen. I like the idea that he might be able to patch up our relationship with a good part of the rest of the world. I like the fact that he realizes a healthy business and healthy air and water can coexist.

I’m also encouraged by the notion that since this guy’s been in battle, he won’t take lightly the notion of sending US soldiers into battle.

Most of all, I like the idea that he embraces science. This is the age of science we live in, and we need to have someone in office who understands what gifts it has to offer.

In closing, though, I need to say something about the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. Three of the four main players in the ad targeting Kerry were on record as little as three years ago as saying he was a valiant and courageous leader.

Keep in mind that the group who funded the commercial also went after McCain prior to the previous Republican primary so that Bush would become the nominee. They said that McCain was a traitor for speaking out against the war. This was a man who had spent years in a concentration camp and when offered his freedom he refused because they weren’t going to let his men go home, too. He ended up spending a couple of extra years there powered only by his integrity.

He had guts. The organization that questioned his patriotism did not. And now, they’re proving it again by going after Kerry.

W, in no particular order

  1. He has principles and convictions. You may not like his stances on things, but you know what they are. He is not someone prone to bending with a stiff breeze.

  2. He is/has been reasonably good executing the war on terror. Some things with reconstruction might have been better planned, but I think his response has been measured and effective.

  3. The way he handled himself on 9/11 and after. He may be a shitty public speaker when reading off paper, but his actions and words in the days and weeks after the attacks were exactly what we needed as country, and should serve us well if it happens again. His impromptu speech in the rubble of the twin towers was especially moving.

  4. He wont kowtow to the Labor unions, the teachers unions, the trial lawyers. etc

  5. I like his morals. I dont agree with most of the christian mumbo jumbo, but there is something to be said about decency of the air waves (this coming from a huge howard stern/ O& A Fan), stronger families, the effectivness of and logic of the faith based initatives…etc

  6. The people he surrounds himself with i.e. Condi, Powell, Rumsfeld, Ridge, whitman, Cheney (not a fan of ashcroft really) are all top drawer.

  7. I fear what will happen if liberal judges keep getting appointed or what policies liberals would try and push forward.

  8. I like his stance on taxes. Alot, and look forward to and even better restructuring of the tax code.

  9. I like his actions towards small business. THis is the bread and butter of America and not something that government should be stifling as has happened in the past.

I am getting tired here, and let someone else take over. I am going to paste his weak points (in my mind)from an email i sent my friend.

"there are plenty of things about bush i question but the big issues he is spot on with.

if i could make him my ideal candidate he would
a) give more incentives to alternative energies to go along with all of his other energy proposal which i support
b) not have rx drug plan we have because it costs too much, but thats me asking for him to be more conservative
c)stricter immigration policies, the amnesty thing is dubious
d)let the marriage ammendment simmer until the supreme court rules
e)reverse mccain feingold
f)install the fair tax (but he may get around to that next term)

i am sure there are more things i am forgetting both for and against. Someone else can jump in with them.

thanks,
me

I’m guessing this is it? This is all that anyone has to say? C’mon now!

In truth, I’m not super-excited about Bush - I definitely have some problems, which I’ve listed before.

However, I think the War on Terror is the pentultimate issue, and I believe Bush will take a stronger line on it than will Kerry. Also, I believe in tax cuts, and in reforming the tax system to move it from a progressive-rate system toward a flat-rate system, and Bush will do that. Finally, I believe in reforming health-care insurance to give patients more choice and control, and the Social Security system to give people more control over their own savings, and Bush is more likely to enact those policies.

Thus, while I have my reservations about him, I believe Bush would be superior to Kerry in enacting policies I believe are most important.

W Bush For me,

I too do not agree with everything the George Bush has done. BUT what is important right now is the War on Terror. Our Nations Existence and our nations security to me takes precendence over everything else right now…

George Bush, is a man who sticks to his guns. He doesn’t vacillate in what he sets out to do. When it comes to the War on Terror. The man has been like the Rock of Gilbrator. He is not afraid to stand up and meet this enemy face to face. He will go after them. And do whatever it takes to keep this country, and land free. He understands the importance of the intelligence, and our defenses. And he respects the military. George Bush doesn’t let polls, persuade him. What George Bushes’ goals are, he will set out to do them. Geroge Bush will go out of his way to reach out to the Democrats. He will try to see things as they do, and then he will form his conclusions form what both sides say. He is a President that will take no nonsense. He is a man who realizes a country without "God"is a counry that is lost. He is a man who treasues our democacy, and knows what democacy . He is a President that values human life.
And will do anything it takes to preserve it.

George Bush is a man who knows who this enemy is. ANd has met it face to face. He knows wha thtis enemy is cabable of doing. He realizes that we cannot be a Neville Chamerlain, an appeaser with these people. He realizes what they are cabable of doing. Even if it means the world is not behind us. George Bush is a fighter.

Now to John Kerry. He really scares me. First and foremost he is a Neville Chamerlain. I have seen on websites, how so many of the Axis of Evil, Cuba, Iran, Aarafat, the terrorists,
are just hoping for the day, that he will be the next President. Someone who doesn’t have a backbone. TO stand on their own two feet. That will go crying to the UN for everything. An appeaser.

He is a person who doesn’t even know who this enemy is all about. And what they are cabable of doing. He Flip FLops like there was no tommorow. He is a person who has no conviction. He has flip flopped so many times , you don’t know how he really stands on the issues. Or with his policies. I will do this I will do that… But you have to vote for me, for me to enact them.

He has promised everything but the kitchen sink to everyone. And you know he has to cut something, but won’t talk about what it is.

He is someone who cannot and refuses to talk about his past Senate record. He is a person who wants people to look at his military carrer in Vietnam, but yet refuses to answer any questions on it. Or not talk about it. He is a person who when asked will you please release all of your records, sign Form 180, he refuses. He is a person who shows very little respect for the military.

He wants America to turn back the cleck to pre-9/11/2001. He sees our nation’s economy is more important. than the War on Terror. SO once again, we will have more spnet on the domestic. Less on defense and intelligence. I see all the hard work and that Geroge Bush worked on with intelligence, with our nation’s defense, and the War on Terror, going down the drain. Once again I see cartoon ads with all the terorists just waiting and hoping he becomes the next President…

But if I was to do THEE Number one reason why I do hope and PRAY Kerry is elected President is Communism…There is one website which scares the living daylights of me. Oe which NO one in the press the media, any actor, actress, musician, Bush Hater probably doesn’t even look at. The website is no joke… They put Kerry next to Marx Engles… YOu see at the top this flash appear… “Our party deserves a second chance…” “Foreign Interests ar emore important than AMerican Interests” "red stars before his “purple hearts” “Stop the economic boom created by George W Bush.” “Bush haters of the world unite.” "Eradicate small business we need BIG Governemnt.
Building a Communist revolution in the US…

This is his resume on their site…

YIKES NOT NOT NOT Prseident!!! After I reread ,it I forgot that word Not… Contacted floated off eye…

CU AeroStallion - “If you must include negative aspects of another candidate, post your stuff elsewhere. All I want to hear are the positive attributes of whatever candidate you are for, any negative talk about another candidate is a self condemming admission to pure and outright stupidity”

chucksmanjoe - “Now to John Kerry. He really scares me. First and foremost he is a Neville Chamerlain. So chucksmanjoe…according to CU AeroStallion you have just given a self condemming admission to pure and outright stupidity…two paragraphs about why you like Bush and six bashing Kerry…

Are you really as stupid as CU says??

The strange thing is, I have the most positive things to say about Kerry – but I wouldn’t vote for him. I honestly like the man. He’s reasonably honest about the things that matter, and he actually seems to have something similar to emotions. He has actual opinions, and they’re his opinions, so when he gets blindsided with a question that he may not have been coached to answer… he answers it. (It’s possible he’s just been coached A LOT, but I don’t think so.) That takes guts, and that takes brains, and I admire that.

For Bush, on the other hand, I can’t say a whole lot of positive things. I think he sticks to his guns, which is admirable. I think he takes a little more time to think about his decisions than some people might, which is a BIG plus when you’re talking about anything military.

The real question for me is whether the good things about these candidates are real qualifications for the Presidency. I don’t think Kerry’s are. He’s certainly likable, but I don’t have a particular need to like the President… I just need to trust the President with our nation’s future. And I think someone who thinks a little longer and is a little more sure of himself has better qualifications.

First and foremost, this is a question that was aked for ONES’ Opinions and Feelings. WHY do WE feel the way we do about the candidate we will vote for.
NO ONE should be answering back anyone of these postings. For these are MY thoughts, MY feelings, about the two candidates. And if I feel stronger and have a more favorable position on one candidate vs the other, YOU should not be questioning it. And question MY thoughts and feelings over another.
And this goes for anyone who posts on this thread. We are given a chance by this super question, to tell those that come to this forum, WHY we are voting for this candidate vs another. so we can finally “spill your guts out” as to why we feel we do about the candidates… ANd NOT expected to receive ANY comments on them, when we do.

Yes I might of got a little carried away with my feelings against John Kerry. ANd I am sorry if I did. But as I said a few times, we should not be refusting or attacking anyones views or opinions, at all.

Joe

Carried away is OK. But CU said “If you must include negative aspects of another candidate, post your stuff elsewhere.” Let’s respect his wishes, since he started the thread.

As to my views: I’m pretty much on the fence at this point. I like that fact that W is a decisive leader. Even more so, I respect a man who is secure enough to surround himself with good people (for the most part). I don’t consider myself informed or qualified to comment on a lot of policy and econmic matters, so I won’t.

On to Kerry: I have always felt that a Commander in Chief should be a vet. If someone doesn’t know what it’s like on the sharp end, it’s a problem to have them order people into combat (if anything, I believe that a non-vet would be MORE cautious about casualties, but that is my opinion and a seperate thread entirely). Another major point in Kerry’s favor is his standing on science, particularly stem-cell research. The potential for improvement in many people’s lives is just too great to keep in the dark.

That’s just my 2 cents (actually, looking at this post, it was only like 1 and a half).
