Coming into this thread just to say “rap is like so totally lame and like I like totally love van halen more” is just like going into the “favorite bodybuilding pictures” thread and posting pictures of bruce lee. Start a thread about how “commercialized” rap is so terrible.

No doubt!
Immortal Technique is the best MC out there in my opinion.
EPMD was alright but I don’t really know much of their stuff.
Pharaoh Monche was cool.
Mos Def was sick but I thought Talib’s sound was a little off. Not really sure what it was; the beat of “Get By” didn’t quite sound right. I also got a hand slap from Mos Def when he came down that center aisle so clearly we’re boys now.
The Roots put on a good show but to be honest I was a little disappointed. I have seem them before and they are amazing (and their sound was good at RTB) but it seemed like their set got cut short or something. Typically after they do the whole “introduce the band while the rest freeze” thing they do another couple of songs.
Anyway still a good performance although I woulda rather seen more of them then Flavor Flav’s ridiculous rambling.
Public Enemy was better than I thought but damn Chuck D got old. Also the whole “Black Power” thing got a little lost considering the crowd was 90% white. However, Flavor Flav started rambling on about something for about 15 minutes and while it was funny (because he’s so cracked out) I woulda rather heard music.
It seemed like the rest of them were legit pissed. Sucks that Terminator X ain’t around any more.
To be honest I wasn’t expecting much out of Cypress Hill but definitely was pleasantly surprised. Rock Superstar didn’t sound quite as good as I was expecting but a lot of their songs did. They got a pretty good live show.
I have mixed feelings about the Wu-Tang set. On one hand it was awesome seeing them all back together but I didn’t like how they played abbreviated versions of a lot of their songs. How could they not do all of “C.R.E.A.M.”? Method Man really brought the energy and was an awesome performer but some of the other members didn’t bring it as hard as I was expecting.
The best part of their set was probably when Redman came out as a surprise and they threw down “Da Rockwilda” and people were really going nuts. However, I thought the crowd was a little weak during their overall set and I think it annoyed the Wu a little.
Rage Against the Machine… I don’t even have to discuss this. Nobody can move a crowd like they can and their sound was on point at RTB. I was at Coachella and while that show was crazier due to sheer amount of people (and I was right up front at Coachella whereas I was probably 50-70 feet back at RTB) I think the sound and overall performance was even better at RTB.
However, getting out SUCKED. I don’t even want to get into this debacle but I probably will never see a show at Randall’s Island again because of this. Were you trapped in the horde of people waiting for buses for a couple of hours also?
