Van Halen would dance circles around any rapper in the musical knowledge arena. So would Aerosmith, Guns n Roses, The Scorpions etc.

80’s electronica was made with out as much technology as rappers have now too, meaning the artists had to come up with the songs and then have them sound weird through sythesizers.

Rappers pretty much buy prepackaged beats and then mumble shitty poems over them.
I don’t enjoy rap, but why come on this thread and say that? You don’t feel an appreciation for something, therefore everyone who does appreciate that thing should deserves to endure your petty slurs? What a false sense of entitlement!

IMO, music is, second only to literature, the greatest luxury on Earth. It is exciting, emotional, thrilling, and most germaine to my point, deeply personal. By coming on here and bad-mouthing, with no provocation, someone’s music, that person’s gut reaction will be akin to that of reaction to personal attack. You both have no business coming on here and instigating that kind of static.

As for the others, if you know their names you can easily find their CDs online. A little effort goes a long way.

Just picked up a Talib Kweli CD but it was his first CD, not as impressed as I thought I’d be, hopefully because it’s his earlier stuff.

Which CD did you pick up by Talib Kweli?

My favorites from him are Black Star, Reflection Eternal and Quality. He has a new album coming out on the 21st titled Ear Drum, which got good reviews in XXL. I wasn’t a huge fan of Beautiful Struggle, however the Sucka Free Mix CD was very good.

Also, if you enjoy Kweli and Mos Def, check out Hi-Tek’s two albums; Hi-Teknology and Hi-Teknology Vol. 2: The Chip. Both absolutely awesome albums.
Reflection Eternal. It’s growing on me the more I play it. It’s in my car so I’ve been listening to it a lot.

I’ve got a $50 gift card that I might use to check out another CD or two of his.

Funny, I feel that way about a good Rockscar post.

Ouch. Funny, but that’s gonna leave a mark.

i just think it’s funny that you went completely out of your way to post in a topic that is titled good hip hop songs so you could tell us you don’t like hip hop. Kudos on showing everyone how lonely and depressing your life is that you clearly just surf this site every second of every day commenting on everything.

Back to the topic, for hip-hop download soul position or soul position’s dj by himself rjd2. And my personal favorite zion i.

For rap that will make you want you to slang crack rock and do drive-by’s try crime mob or rick ross with lil wayne.

It was a lighthearted thing, and kudos to you for showing us how much of a ass you can be, by jumping the gun and making negative (ass)umptions about someones life by a single sentence…way to introduce yourself to T-Nation!

You my friend are musically ignorant…they’re are true musical artist within hip-hop and rap that all the groups you mentioned above would want to do their “comback” albums…ironic.

Ooooo, that was clever, i see what you did, you incorporated your earlier joke, calling me an ass, into your word choice, assumption, which in turn allowed you to call me an ass twice, nice. What sector of NASA do you work for?

I can see why you would say this when TI is your example in a thread titled “Good Hip Hop.”

I am not much for all those rappers that sing about their cars and their ho’s (because that is just so lame) and I also prefer more song-oriented rap (so not just some guy talking like in the 8AM Radio)
And for the last, the best rap I have heard is from the 90’s Westcoast era.

Lil Chill - Ain’t No Luv Lost (Best song there: Ain’t No Luv Lost)
Rappin’ 4-Tay - Off Parole (Best song there: Off Parole and 25-2-Life)
Warren G. - Regulate…G Funk Era (Best song there: This D.J.)

And then there also is the songs T.I. - What U Know and Jurassic 5 - We Know Something (especially the musicvideo of that is good).

Have fun

If it was truly a lightheared thing then you wouldn’t feel the need to jump in every hip hop thread and make a comment on how much you dislike it. We get it – you don’t like hip hop.

You feel the need to do this in several threads, too, that have nothing whatsoever to do with you. It’s hard not to come to conclusion that you are a cranky and negative old man trying to shit on everybody’s parade.

Off the top of my head…

Lupe Fiasco - food and liquor
The roots: game theory, phrenology
Common: like water for chocolate, Be. Finding forever’s decent too, but you can’t go wrong with the first two.
Anything by A Tribe called quest, really, but if you’re looking into specifics, i’d go with ‘the love movement’.
Jay Dee: The shining, Jay love Japan and Ruff Draft. you really can’t go wrong with this guy
The Pharcyde: another great group, did a few tracks with jurassic 5, wihch is sick too. i’d recommend Humboldt Beginnings by Pharcyde.
Hieroglyphics: 3rd Eye Vision
Lauren Hill : The miseducation of Lauren Hill
Anything by Pharoah Monch
Anything by KRS-One
Nas, Cee-lo, Slum village,De La Soul, and Erykah Badu and D’angelo, tho the last two are somewhat…softer…haha

I didn’t list “Straight Outta Compton,” as long as you like rap you should own that album, it’s classic.

Actually, I think he works for N(ASS)A.

Well you’re comparing 80’s bands to current rappers. Why not compare 80’s bands to 80’s rappers?

Or compare 80’s bands to current bands. If you did that, you’d be saying the same thing you’re saying about rappers.
The comparison was already made and being replied too. Smarty pants. And you are right, musicians in general suck ass compared to decades past.

If anyone takes a personal opinion on rap communicated through a public internet forum as a personal insult, they have a vagina the size of Alaska and their hurt feelings aren’t my concern.

the “comeback” albums produced by “hot” producers are a business decision in a marketing sense and have nothing to do with an appreciation for musical talent, only the business aspect of selling it.

I would say TI is “Fun Hip Hop” to listen to. Small difference but a difference all the same.

Everything in the music “industry” is done in a marketing sense…but to those artist…rap, rock,or whatever…that still appreciate music for what it is, there is still appreciation for one’s talent.

Besides, you showed your true ignorance with “Rappers pretty much buy “prepackaged” beats and then mumble shitty poems…bullshit.” Agreed, that is the majority of whats played on the radio these days, but nobody appreciates close-minded ignorance.

To build on that, when’s the last time something hot right now on “BillBoard” didn’t contain a sample?

Mainstream rap is fucking horrible!
