Livestock Guardian breeds generally bark quite a lot.

Fuck picking a BA dog out is too hard, there are so many. I almost want a Caucasian Shepard now, just feed it steak and DBol and get the thing up to 220. Wiki said the average dog will weigh 120-180 but some can get up to 220…That’s like a small black bear.
hahaha
But like BG said. I’m am looking for a pet and companion. My pup is my best friend, lol. he sleeps at my side on the floor and is by me at all times when I am home. Typically waits by the door for me to come home too.
I want a dog that LOOKS like a badass motherfucker, but is actually a loyal softy that loves to play, walk, swim and shit…
I don’t want some killer freak animal that I have to worry is going to maul one of my son’s girlfriends if she tries and sneak in or out at midnight some night.

My current dog a lab/pit mix is the same, love the guy and is the friendliest animal ever. Super hyper but plain friendly.
I’ve been having this dream that I am a Russian, maybe 300 pounds of solid muscle, and I am standing guard outside a building in Moscow with huge fur trench coat on and a monster dog on a leashe. I like that image. Haha.
A lot of these “guard” dogs are super friendly with thier families. That’s the thing, they love the family so much that anything posing a threat in the household will set the dog off. They said the caucasian shepard will protect family and that even includes other pets in the house. That’s awesome, and they are loving animals, just not with strangers so you need to be careful about that.

Yeah, I want my kids to be able to have friends over without having to worry about them getting eaten. God forbid a plumber or electrician has to come by and do some work, lol.
Pits are just scarry. Most people would not get close, but if you train them right they are push overs. Rottweilers are the best. They are fiercely loyal, and will defend their pack/home with the greatest amount of love ever.

I love rotts, really. Scariest dog I ever saw was one though. Poor bastard was a rescue. Whatever they did to the guy, he was never “safe.” Had to spend his life in a kennel. Other than that guy, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a poorly behaved one. And he really was the exception. I don’t know how his owner managed to sneak him away, before he was put down.
Rotts just instinctively seem to “get” it, you know?
Funny how people could keep dogs for thousands of years with no legal issue, but now our society deems any that bite a menace to be destroyed. Illegal to carry guns, have a dog that bites, defend yourself against someone that attacks you. Why not just close up shop and head on down to the concentration camp for re education?
As for dogs - Standard Schnauzers for the win ;7)

If you get a well-bred pitbull, it will never show any aggression toward humans though, so it won’t be an effective guard dog. Dobermans and Rottweilers are bred to respond to a threat to their owners, whether from humans or another animal. A pitbull won’t respond the same way, unless it’s poorly bred and is therefore a bad dog to have around anyways. A well-bred pit will still exhibit aggression toward other animals without being overly aggressive toward other dogs, especially ones that are smaller than it.
I’m sorry, but this is simply not true. How many of y’all that are commenting on pits have 'em or have spent significant time around the breed? I have 3 Razors Edge pits and they are all as loyal, loving and goofy as can be. They love people and other animals, but make no mistake if someone were to step to me or my family or try and get where they’re not wanted everyone of my dogs would [and have] take action. You do need to expose pits to other breeds early 'cause their heritage is as farm dogs. They’re critter getters at heart and if they’re not used to small dogs a rat terrier just looks like a rat. And for the record, I can take all of my dogs to the park and they’ll play with other dogs all day. The problem is that other dogs generally try to “test” them, especially my male. Because of this I no longer take him to the dog park. Oh, and even though BG and I have had our differences on this board the guy knows his dogs. People need to listen when he talks about dogs.
You got some bullshit pits then. Pitbulls were bred starting in the 1880’s (in America) for fighting, plain and simple. They should have ZERO aggression toward humans because they were bred to be able to be pulled out of the ring in the middle of a fight by its owner or a referee without turning on the human. Any pitbull that does not meet this standard is an example of poor breeding. In the past, any pitbull that EVER showed aggression toward a human, especially unprovoked aggression, was shot on sight so that it would not contaminate the breed.
I’ve had three pitbulls, all of whom came from professional breeders who breed the dogs for temperament and conformation and looks, meaning that the dogs are bred to meet AKC and/or UKC standards. I’m very familiar with Razor’s Edge breeders and dogs. They’re bullshit dogs, period. They aren’t bred for anything other than the typical bully look and as a result factors like temperament, conformity and intelligence are cast aside. Their dogs don’t even approach the ideal look and temperament of a real pitbull. This is a link to a great breeder down in Florida that I got my current dog from. They breed for show, not rap videos like Razor’s Edge, and as a result their dogs are bred primarily for temperament and looks. My puppy is from the first pair of dogs shown (Steel and Blaze).

I don’t give a fuck what you consider bullshit or not, 'cause you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about. Pits were bred in ENGLAND, and were used for a variety of things. Yes, fighting was one of them. But, when they were shipped over they were used mostly as farm dogs, hence the “critter gitter” label. The apbt was actually Americas dog and was used as the face for patriotism during WW1. And, if you did a little more research instead of talking out of your fucking ass you’d realize that Razors Edge are actually bred for temperment and intelligence, as well as the traditional bully look. And, once again, if you’d read I mentioned more than once how awesome my dogs are around people and other animals.
I agree with DB, and your dogs are bully’s not pit bulls, for a representation of an actual pit bull, check out lil bit down below.
I would never put a bully in a 30 with a APBT, they’ll end up chewed up and spit out. I’ve had the unfortunate experience of seeing two bully’s get in a fight. They lasted all of four minutes before they ran out of air. (FYI: Real dog fights last around :45 - 1:30hrs)
[photo]25216[/photo]
I understand that RE’s are not typical apbt’s. They’re not game dogs. But, they do have apbt blood in them. I would never put a bully in a pen with an apbt either. In fact, I would never put any dog in a pen to fight. I’ve been around quite a few fights. BG and I have spoken at length about this. I know quite a few guys out in the country who fight their dogs. They make some scratch but to me it’s trashy. To each their own.
I wouldn’t know where to find a fight if it my life depended on it. I don’t do that stuff, have enough trouble just having dogs.

No, she is the dog of the owner of the link at the bottom of the picture.
Napoloan Mastiffs, Cane Corsos, and German Shepard’s, Belgium Malengua (prob not how its spelled),dutch shepards etc are rather strict one-person, one family dogs by nature. Freakin Chows, shar pais, akitas too.

I have a half giant schnauzer / half black lab. He hears anything going on around my house, is big enough he scares most people (80 pounds at 7 months should get to 100+), naturally wants to chew on arms, stares down anyone he doesnt now / trust, and was fully ready to take on a 180 pound bull dog mix that was barking at my girlfriend… he can also clear a 4.5 foot high fence when he wants.
Honestly though, nothing beats either a pitbull for protection or a german shepard. If its just your mom I would recommend a german shepard, a 12 gauge, and a pistol. She should know how to use the guns, reload, and feel confident. The german shepard are easier to train then pitbulls, and ranked in the top 5 for smart dogs. Plus, who really wants to f with a dog that weighs 140+ pounds…
My buddy in Detroit is a K9 cop and his german shepard that was shot 3 times and still chassed a guy 2 blocks before taking him down… that alone makes me respect them even more.

And from person experience, I can tell you, of the dozen or so dogs I’ve had to destroy, to protect my flock, the majority have been pitbulls or some sort of x-breed.
Idiots or breeding, probably a combination of both, but if nothing else, there’s a good chance your local community and insurance companies both have rules on the pitbull breed.
Like everyone has said, this is more because of bad owners not the breed itself. My grandmother has pitbull that, other then barking, would probably only lick an intruder to death. then again she has always has them and knows how to raise them. Like any working / herding dog they require a more experianced owner and a more firm alpha.
About 6 years ago, my neighbor across the street in the town I used to live in had a 250lb rott. Scared the 13 year old shit outta me. The guy couldn’t even take it out to walk because he weighed all of 150lbs, so it could haul him around.
Different neighbor at a different house has a mostly pitt mutt that would always go nuts at my friends and I whenever we walked/skateboarded by. One time it got loose and it actually attacked one of my friends, who clubbed it with his skateboard, and it ran off.
Edit: It more than likely was a lot smaller than that. That’s just what he (the owner) told me.

No bro you don’t understand it was on the roidz! And the pit mutt was 175 lbs, and he couldn’t be taken on a walk because the guy that owned it only weight a 115 lbs.

Hey, that’s what the guy told me it weighed. It’s possible that he lied to a 13 year old. In fact, it’s more than likely. I just said what he told me. The thing’s shoulders were almost at my hip and it was thick as hell.
If you’re being attacked by a bear, Airdale Terrier. Because they’re dumb enough to attack something that will slaughter them. You can run away whie the bear is being diverted.
