before it was made clear it was his second language. And with the sad state of the education system in this country today, it’s not a far stretch to think otherwise.

Why are you telling him to do back exercises when dips are primarily a chest(and shoulder and tris) exericise? That said, the suggestions give are good.
No,I’m pretty sure dips work your back.or maybe it’s the pull-up exercise that works your back( I get mixed up with both of them).
How long have you been training…?

I’ve been training for four years.I know which workout is which by heart,I just don’t remember every single one by name.
It’s just one of those little things in life that you get mixed up with every now and then. So,anyone know of a good substitute for a pull-up? I was thinking rows and deadlifts.

Those would be fine. Do them in addition. Not as substitutes.

Wow!

Dips do work the lats if you flex/shrug them at the bottom, in other words, the scapula supress.
Anyway, I’d say pushups with weight added, and decline dumbell presses.

Yes, they do. But they are primarily a chest, shoulder, tri exercise.

supress? Still not sure how the lats would cause movement of the scapula…

They pull down the humerus which is attached to the scapula. If the humerus has a downward force on it, there will also be a downward force on the entire joint.

Ahh, I thought you were saying the lats were pulling on the scapula (directly).
Still don’t see the dips involving the lats so much that it should be used as a back exercise though
