Good College Food

Hey guys I’m currently living in a college dorm so gaining weight is extremely hard. The cafe closes at 7 so from then on I’m basically living off of what’s in my room. ANY help on good food would be appreciated.

I currently eat peanut butter like crazy, try to buy gallons of milk whenever I have a chance, and have protein shakes. After a while I’m starting to get sick of it though. I’m considering going to costco and bulking up on canned chicken (don’t like tuna) and oatmeal. I was wondering what you guys thought of canned chicken and if you guys knew of any other foods which would be ideal for my situation.

I’m in college too. As far as food outside of dining dollars, I pretty much rely on canned tuna, peanut butter, almonds, walnuts, oats, bread, protein powders, cottage cheese, and 2% milk. If you don’t like tuna, you could try chicken or canned salmon.

I eat almonds and walnuts like crazy too. I think if I just bulk up on oatmeal and canned chicken it will help a lot. Do you have instant oatmeal or is it actual oats?

Oat meal is great for bulking.

Buy the massive bags of it and you can just eat it raw like any other cereal.

Pb and nuts are always safe bets when bulking. You’ve got the milk down which works big time.

Canned chicken is actually alright but it’s quite low in fat.

If you can stomach it I recommend canned salmon, you will never find a better bulking food. Eat two cans and boom 600 kcal 80 grams protein, 0 grams carbs, 30 grams fat.

Canned beans are also a god send, things like chick peas being the best. If you can stomach it again, pour a little olive oil over a can of chick peas and just go crazy.

Also don’t over look butter and cream.

Hardboiled eggs are a good option if you have a common dorm kitchen you can slip into for 20 minutes. Other than that I agree with what has already been said.

I’m a senior in college right now. I have quick cooking down. Here’s what I normally buy.

5 dozen Eggs
Milk
Great Value Cheese
Bananas
Quaker Oatmeal
5lb bags of chicken (2$ a pound)
Stew meat (good if you have a crock pot)
turkey sausage
turkey bacon
Jiff Natural Peanut Butter
Canned turkey chill
Some Campbell chunkys

there is another thread answering exactly what you are asking

Dude, man up and learn to like tuna. Or, and here’s something I’ll do with it quite often, mix a can of tuna with a cup of cottage cheese and your choice of whey powder. Good protein profile and tasty to boot.

Dude, i feel your pain about the shitty flavor of tuna. Not to mention that it makes your breath smell like fish too. But it’s a great source of lean protein and other goodies, so i force me to eat them.

What i do is to mix the tuna with some tomato sauce, or some mustard and even mayo (but make sure that calories are in check). That made my tuna eating a lot more bearable.

Happy eatin’!
