And until I see multiple IFBB bodybuilders produced by lifted super light weights with low intensity for hours on end, I will disregard that study entirely. I don’t mind you asking. Currently I weigh in 214lbs and generally have strength levels that would be rated quite well. Apologies for misinterpreting your discussion as it seemed a comparison of very high volume achieved in a single session vs a frequency/intensity approach.

However, I don’t think the individual who trains for an excess period of time (the 2hour mark) one one muscle/muscle group is working at a high intensity throughout that time. Just because it is hard, and you are tired, doesn’t make it high intensity. It just makes it fatiguing and high volume, which is actually the argument of this guy out of Canada which he related into the amount of fatigue elicited in a weight session.

I asked the researcher the exact same question as to whether he thinks simply accumulating massive volume with light-moderate weight will lead to hypertrophy. He thinks it will based on their measurement model for what was happening with protein turnover in muscle (I disagreed, respectfully, he had lots of letters after his name). THis is also the research group that has shown hypertrophy isn’t dependent on the exercise hormonal response, but on muscle protein synthesis. Plus, their research is underpinning alot of the nutrition recommendations for how to use protein that sites like this and others are all using.

Wholesale slamming of research is ignorant, but I appreciate your frustrations (20g of protein per serving only? based on 70kg untrained individuals?? uh huh).

Still, if just getting fatigued and volume was the answer, shouldn’t we just all just hop on bikes and treadmills for hours at a time :wink:

Ok, so when you say they don’t have “high” intensity you don’t mean they aren’t pushing their bodies to their limits each set, but instead are referring to how much force the body can actually produce 2 hours into a session? If that’s the case, I can see what you mean much better. When I think anything but “high intensity” I’m thinking we’re talking ending a set a rep or two short of failure…make sense?
