Going shopping. help fill my cart?

Hello, again. I need to stock my refrigerator/cupboards for the next week or two and want to get away from excess carbohydrates and return to my old diet of (essentially) eggs, meat, cheese, nuts, etc. Oddly enough, I’m having difficulty remembering what I would eat back then, particularly the foods I would take with me and eat on my lunch break. I’m just returning to work after an absence so money is tight and stores such as Whole Foods are off limits for me.
Any help would be appreciated.

Where are you going? If this is a Costco run, you could probably throw out a budget and context (like microwave access) for the meals and we could be pretty specific.

So did you get a place? Not living in your car anymore?

Unfortunately I don’t have a membership (and, as I said, money is extremely scarce) so it’ll be Kroger or Walmart.
I’m going super simple with eggs, butter, cheddar, ground beef, old fashioned oatmeal and Greek yogurt-even though they have carbohydrates, I’m not looking to go ketogenic, just wanting to remove much of my carbohydrates. Something along the lines of the 100g a day carb cure.

Good memory. I have access to a place where I can cook, store food and some personal belongings. Best part is I can get a regular shower. Thank you for asking.

If you’re looking to cut carbs, you might appreciate this

Or for cliff notes

For price, volume, satiety and benefit, I’d go to Walmart and load up on eggs, ground beef, and potatoes to your heart’s desire.

Glad you’re in a better place!

I’ve been homeless a couple of times in my life, and if these are the questions you’re asking, you’re either a troll or an idiot.

Aldi (if possible) has awesome prices on like 3 lb. containers of cashews, and other various nuts like walnuts, almonds, mixed.

Legumes, like black, red, & pinto beans can deliver some good bang/buck. Canned are cheap, but dried & bagged are even less if you can plan it.

I don’t know about anywhere else, but pork shoulders & stuff seem to go on sale regularly at less than $2.00/lb. Often in the $1.29-$1.49 range.

Throw in some brassicas like broccoli & whatnot for their test boosting/preserving power.

Thank you. It feels so much better.

For protein - if eggs get ridiculous again, like the $4-5/dozen range, switch them out with cottage cheese. A dozen eggs = 60 grams of protein and 1-24 oz container of 4% cottage cheese (around $3) = 78 grams. You’ll lose about 250 calories, but you can fill those in a with high quality cheap carbs (potatoes, oats).

If you want some veggies, Walmart has bags of frozen green beans, broccoli, peas and corn for $0.97/each. The peas and the corn are good carb sources too.

And I second @SkyzykS legume suggestion - they have carbs, fiber, protein and they’re calorically dense too.

I forgot lentils. They’re awesome too. :+1:

Eggs at Walmart are $10.00 for 36 eggs. Crazy. Good call on the cottage cheese. It’s a staple but never considered replacing the eggs with it.

Tried every canned bean (like them all) but they simply add too much bulk. :frowning:

Now I’m stuck thinking about lentils & rice with a can of Rotel & pork shoulder in a crock pot.

Id say thats dinner for 4 days for $5.00, but adjusted thats maybe $7.50.

Maybe consider getting your life together before worrying about putting a bodybuilding diet in your cart.

Ramen, cheerios, canned meat, canned beans, PB&J sandwiches…Find calorie density at low cost and focus on getting your life to a place where it can support a fitness hobby.

It’s coming together again and I have to eat so I simply asked for suggestions (never mentioned bodybuilding diet) so I could pick off the best bang-for-buck foods suggested.

Research local food pantries and maybe check out churches or places of worship that give free food to poor people.

I would suggest, instant oatmeal with some coca powder for flavouring, canned sardine/markerel and also egg which is very high quality protein.Avoid sugary stuff if possible,if you have a sweet tooth then try those low sugar at least it is not as detrimental as high sugary stuff.good luck!
