Going Gault - What's your new profession

These are like takes on life from the observation deck.

You gotta be in it to win though.

We went strawberry picking this past weekend, at the far north end of “the other wine country” (Willamette Valley)

In this area around the Columbia River, they’ve built platforms for the eagles to nest, and many of them have giant bald eagle nests on them. Some part conservancy, some part pest control. It’s been a historic fruit growing area, and is still a mix of that + temperate crop farming (broccoli, cauliflower) + some light industrial/warehousing.

At this particular farm, they were surrounded by eagle’s nests. But they also had a portable field setup that was blasting the calls of predatory birds. Solar powered setup with a multidirectional speaker. I couldn’t recognize the birds themselves, but I took a few photos and videos since it was pretty cool (and timely, given your comment)

No pictures of the eagle’s nests though; I was driving and pointing them out to my kids, who still have some trouble following verbal instructions… “look for the big pole, then look up, and see the nest?” “no, I don’t see it, where?”

Well that’s cool.

The closest I have is Jerry. Kids picked the name, and he is supposed to scare that fat-ass robin who likes to use my car mirrors as open-air toilets, and I’m not allowed to shoot him, since insurance would be highly skeptical that “somebody” shot an arrow through my car window.

This is Jerry. He does a terrible job, but for 12 bucks he’s kind of fun.
