G- Doing an international meet is very cool, you will kill it. Are your last deads normally 2 1/2 weeks out ?

I have been tempted to try that in the past but have never had the guts to do it and always gone with the 11 or 12 days out. Then again, you pull a lot more weight than I do. [/quote]

It will be a great trip that’s for sure. It’s my third and all were or will be so different.
In general 3 weeks out is last heavy week and deads usually come late in the week so it works out to be 2 1/2 ish. I’ll keep some volume on rdls and if I am feeling rested I’ll take them up to a med single but only if it feels right. Also my squats will be to a box which I think helps deads. So imo as long as you hit rdls, fr sq or box sq in that last 2 weeks you’ll be fine.
If I adjust much ill post it.

good luck at the meet!

I am sure the meet will be live streamed. But perhaps you could assemble one of those nice meet compilations like you sometimes do? It is always a pleasure to watch you lift. Really hoping you’ll be in Colorado in July.

Thanks Hawk.
I’m not sure how that whole stream thing works? It will be really late night early morning here so hopefully you can just pull it up and replay it?
Planning on Colorado but well see how things go at this meet and how I feel after?

Good luck on the meet!

Thanks Lil, I look forward to following your log.

You are going to crush it at your meet.

Hey Joe, thanks.

Quick update
9/9
Tied for silver with 3 others in sq at 407 but no medal as I was the heaviest
Gold metal world record bench 331
Gold metal world record dead 573
Total was 10 kg short of world record
Placed first.
Ill post more details when I get back to US.

Saw the results online a couple of nights ago but was waiting for you to post the good news. Congratulations on winning your class, great effort. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Congratulations.

Thanks Db and ksnap

Rendered speechless by the awesomeness; at the same time, not even surprised.

Hey PG, I kinda feel the same way.

Meet recap,
Some FYI: was diagnosed with severe arthritis in my hip last January, bone on bone and am ready for a total hip replacement when I feel the time is right. So this made my training and competitive strategy a little different than normal.
Squat goal was to go 3/3 and build a total, not blow up my hip so I could pull ok but get enough to stay with the pack. Also a weight that I could take deep and keep my hips level. Went 363/385/407 and tied for 3 others for silver but was out of medal due to bodyweight.

Bench goal go 3/3, keep building a total and end at world record standard of 331. Left about 5kg on the platform.
Deads TBD by hip, felt good so went 501, 543 ish to try to make everyone else have to take a big jump to win, finish at 573 which was the world record standard. Would have had to pull 594 to set total record but I played it safe.

Some random stuff. 6 am weight ins are no joke. The warm up room and waiting area were outside under tents. It was in the low 40’s and they used patio heaters spread out so the lifters could stay warm. 3 warm up platforms were on the ground and not level and 3 were on cement (luckily we were on a level one). Lifters were spread out in 5 hotels(540 lifters), I stayed at a sports village which was build for the world cup a few years ago. Beautiful place! kind of like a dorm, had a cafeteria etc. Its now used to house professional teams (soccer, rugby, lacrosse, cricket) that go to SA to train.
That’s about it.

Damn, bad news on that hip, good luck with the future surgery. For what it’s worth, I think hip replacement surgery these days is practically an outpatient procedure (slight exaggeration of course) it’s been done so often and the results are so good. Of course, most hip replacement patients aren’t looking to powerlift at a world class level LOL.

Very, very disapointed at the lack of video. No soup for you.

Hey PG, haven’t given up on hip yet and hope to get sq back up but time will tell.
Ok ok, ill see if I can get a vid up sometime this week.

Applause, applause! Way to represent G1!

Does it hurt your hip when you hit depth during your squats? (It looks like your right knee wobbles a bit coming out of the hole.)

And btw, I’ve seen people put more effort into their warmups than you did on your 3rd! bench attempt; put some effort into it man! LOL. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
