Go Missouri!

Rofl. What a friggen non-issue. “I’m scared for my cousin because strip joints will have much stricter regulations. Freedom is a strip club in every neighborhood, with their advertising billboards next to every school! No, no, that’s not free enough. I, yes I, make even the ‘strip club in every neighborhood’ types look like theocratic tyrants. I support sexual acts in public! We should be able to bugger ourselves with spatulas as we window shop. Freeeeeeeedom!” Keep up the good fight. Lol.

This is statewide what the fuck? (Edit: Yes)

I’m guessing the strip clubs and porn shops in Kansas City, Kansas and East St. Louis are pleased.

Really?

I mean… really?

Puritanism: the fear that someone, somewhere, might be having fun.

How long until Sen. Matt Bartle is caught getting a blowjob from some dude in a seedy gas station bathroom? Not long, not long at all.

And what the hell are soldiers there for training supposed to do for fun on weekends? Find the nearest church and pray to their Lord and Savior?

Because this guy doesn’t know how to control himself around booze and women, ipso facto, no one can?
I can’t see this law standing up in court. I hate it when people try to legislate morality. Titty bars equal freedom. Let freedom ring!

Not only do I have a cousin in Missouri, given how much the world copies America, yes I’m concerned. And I don’t know how many times I’ve said that.
Umm…

Missouri (of all places!) =/= America.

It barely = 1/50 of America.
OK, let’s put two and two together for you , then stop actively trying to derail the thread.

My cousin lives in Missouri. I keep in contact with my family. My cousin enjoys strip clubs because he is a seedy cunt. My cousin and I talk over MSN.

I’m getting curiouser and curiouser!
I have, all in one neat little post.

If you are wondering why people not from the USA are concerned about where a major superpower is heading, you must be on some amazing drugs.

Yeah? Well, I can’t understand it, but if he’s enjoying the work and the dancing without feeling exploited, meh. Hope it pays well.

Just a joke!

What’s your problem with this? It is not a total ban on porn. It is one community saying that it is going to maintain certain standards of business within the city limits under the same authority that allows that commuity to determine if a business can open, what capacity it can have, what fire safety measures it must use, how many lights, what type of HVAC, what types of products can be sold there . . .

This is the basic right of every community. Some communities are dry, some are not. Some allows stip clubs, some don’t.

Every community is free to regulate the amount, types and size of the businesses in its jurisdiction.

No one is saying that private individuals cannot own, purchase ot enjoy porn in the privacy of their own home - just that they do not want the physical stores in their community. No big deal here - you doth protest too much . . . .
No IrishSteel, this was a STATE-WIDE ban. this was not a community, this was the Missouri State Friggin’ Senate.

If it was a city or community that decided they wanted to change things, fine IMO.

I don’t like strip clubs…but that’s mostly because I view it as tantamount to flushing your money down the toilet, not because I’m puritanical. Personally I have no desire to go to a place, pay asinine amounts of money to have someone pretend they like me for a few minutes, and then leave alone with the biggest case of blue balls ever. That just seems like masochism, both mentally and economically speaking.

(of course I know pushharder is going to chime in here saying that if you go to the strip club with a gaggle of 5 women in tow, have them dance, and then go home with them everyone’s happy…but sadly I am not king push :). Perhaps I can be an apprentice! )

But bottom line is I feel like the State gov’t really overstepped here. Constitutionally there is nothing wrong with what they’ve done, and so I am hard pressed to find legal reasoning, but I really don’t like that bill being passed. It wreaks too much of Prohibition-style lawmaking. Besides, it’s a personal responsibility thing when regarding your behavior around alcohol and women.

I said the same thing to him actually!

And again, since when is Missouri “a major superpower,” or the official harbinger of one?
Missouri is part of a country that is a major superpower. Is that simple enough?

Who here is the most freedom loving person? Would anyone care to nominate themselves?

No - not a ban, a restriction of a business. Can’t be within certain distance of schools, etc and where the business are allowed to exist there are restrictions applied to the level of “service” available.

Look - there is not a more ardent advocate of individual liberty and limited government on this site - but the cold hard reality here is that the states do have the right to restrict commerce - that’s what this is about - now is Candy and Starr and Delish want to come over to your house and entertain you for free - great! awesome! But if they want to do this as an economic activity - the state does have the right to regulate and restrict it as it deems appropriate.

AND - the citizens have the right to throw this guy out of office and elect Larry Flint to take his place if they want - that’s the way the state system works.

No one’s freedom to enjoy jiggling boobs has been violated - the freedom of Fast Freddy to make a fortune from you for it has been restricted . . .

is this making any sense or are you still just staring at Candy’s a$$?
