I have done some searches and read a lot of useful stuff on here about glutamine, including an article by Dave Barr, ‘debunking the glutamine myth’. I put it in inverted commas, not because I doubt the truth of what he says with regards to bodybuilding, but because I am not sure if his points still apply to those suffering from IBD…
The sufferer is not me, it is my mum. So the issue is not about helping her get a nice pump in her gunz. From my research, it sounds like glutamine could make a massive difference to those suffering from IBD. for 3 years now she has bounced from steroid treatment to steroid treatment, and taken all kinds of different drugs prescribed to her by the doctors. All that has failed to get her into remission even once.
In Dave’s article, he suggested that glutamine wasn’t necessary because the body could use glucose instead for protein synthesis and cell division, however, mum craves sugar all the time, which suggests to me(broscience) that she could be failing to produce the necessary glutamine in her body. My mum is constantly tired, but can’t sleep, since the start of the illness she hasn’t managed more than a couple of hours a night. She has a constant obstruction in her bowel, but no amount of laxative etc will shift it. The drugs don’t seem to work. Careful diet management has helped. Noone has suggested glutamine as a potential aid, but from my reading, it sounds like it might make a substantial difference.
Any advice from those who suffer/are highly clued up on this sort of thing would be much appreciated.
I used it and it really helped me get started in overcoming some pretty terrible gut issues. Now all I take is turmeric and psyllium seed husk in the morning, and some digestive enzymes if I eat anything questionable (bread, too much lactose-free milk, etc.). Turmeric had a massive positive effect on my digestion, overnight.

I have used Beradi’s gut healing protocol after a sickness, it involved glutamine, enzymes and prebiotics - healed me in 2 weeks. I did use peptide bonded glutamine. Was very happy with results and apart from a few things my guts are in great shape now.
The following don’t really agree with my guts post sickness:
Eating too many eggs
Spicy food but cannot give this up I’m afraid
Alcohol - the worst
Caffein in large doses
Creatine[/quote]
Post the protocol or the link?

1st 3 days - 40-60g glutamine each day - 6 doses or so in water throughout the day.
4th day - introduce enteric coated acidophilus - Primadophilus by Nature’s Way is a good choice - if taking this product, take 1 capsule between meals 3x per day. Take for 2 weeks and if symptoms abate, stop here (although keep taking a maintenance dose of 1-2 capsules a day as long as symptoms are gone).
18th day - if healthy bacterial isn’t relieving problems, introduce digestive enzymes - Omegazyme is a good one - take 1-2 capsules with each feeding. Take for 2 weeks and if symptoms abate, keep this regimen.
