I read about glucomannan in a mag put out by my gym. It’s a calorie-free fibre, which you take with water to create a feeling of fullness. It’s also supposed to help with constipation -a real bugger when I’m dieting as well as lowering cholesterol. Some sources claim that it also binds to a certain amount of dietary fat, causing it to pass out of the body undigested.
I’d be concerned about this, as I wouldn’t want good fats to be wasted. Has anyone on here used the product? I read somewhere that the Australian government had banned it, which seems strange when I only just found out about the product from a recent Aus publication. I’ve had pretty good luck getting other stuff thru customs. All in all, it sounds as though it could help me cut.

Didn’t know that… I just assumed it was the fiber equivalent to creatine-ethyl-hexalate-and so on.

Yeah, I haven’t really looked into it much since there are already so many solid supplements one with blood sugar issues could take, it comes down to at what point does the cost give you much in return.
Then again, as i type, maybe I’m thinking of gymnema rather than glucomannan. Gymnema helps block the taste for sweets, I’d have to recheck on glucomannan
I use glucomannan in the kitchen once in a blue moon, as a thickening agent. I don’t think this type of fiber actually helps with constipation, and if it helps with “binding to fat” as you speculated, it’s going to be a subtle effect. It’s not going to be a substitute for counting calories and dipping below maintenance. I would consider it a gimmick, and not something worth pursuing, unless you’re making Orange Chicken or some type of sauce. Especially if it’s not readily available in your shops.
