I almost wonder if you should try squatting with your feet really close together and see what happens…
since that is where your knees want to be anywho…

Although ordinarily I wouldn’t recommend this, I’d say a few sessions with the “Bad Girl” machine might be in order.
I love this “bad girl, good girl” machine thingy. And I think Kimba is trying this with a hold in the maximal “bad girl” position.

alrighty, someone (anyone) feel free to chime in and correct me if im wrong.
what i see is that youre breaking at the knees to initiate the movement, rather than your hips.
because youre doing that, youre not sitting back in the movement, which is making your center of gravity right the fuck over your knees, which will be stronger when closer together.
keep your upper back tight, and make some of your accessory work squatting just the bar, with your stance wider and your toes pointed however the fuck you want them, and if you can think about sitting back, you may start to feel what im talkin bout, willis.
i keep my knees out better when i think more about squeezing my ass to make my hips come forward and up.
ok.
now fuck yeah for your pr, woman! and your mini happy dance! [/quote]
I wouldn’t say you’re wrong. I think the remedy varies by person. I also noted the (relatively) loose upper back Kimba. Half my energy sometimes is spent setting up under the bar as tight as I can.
Unlike CBear, I break at the knees first, shooting them out, rather than sitting back since that makes my drop strait(er) into the hole but that may be my remedy for disproportionately long legs. I used to good morning out of the hole when I broke at the hips.
Have you tried pointing your feet out at more of an angle? I’d be hard pressed to get my knees to touch with my feet at 45 degree angles. My cue (in my head) used to be ‘hips, hips, hips’. I’d think about driving my hips through. If your hips are coming through as you come up, it forces your knees out. The cue ended up in my head after many training days of having team mates yell it at me.

Tsk. Naughty, naughty Kimba…
I am really glad I posted this video, so if I change the name of this log to “Girl with the Most Knee Cave” it will make perfect sense. ![]()
CBear, I’ve been trying your EFS-esque cues on my just-slightly-above-parallel box squats, trying to think about sitting back and bringing my hips through to get up from the box. True, this feels different (and harder). I haven’t yet been able to translate this feeling to my regular squats. At least I DO know what you are talking about.
Snapper, it actually makes me smile to be the most extreme knee caver EVER! If I do something, I do it all the way. Can we see the new hair cut? I’ll admit I channeled you and O yesterday and tried pigtails. Kinda cute, in a naughty schoolgirl sort of way.
George, I’m game for trying anything once. I’m not sure how low I can get with an extremely narrow stance, but nothing is lost by trying it.
DCA, in fact I am experimenting with this machine. And bands. I do suspect weak hips play a role here.
O, thanks for pointing out the upper back issue. I’m going to look for a squat video of you from the back showing me what you do to set up tight. Foot position makes no difference…I am a champion knee-caver and manage to do so spectacularly in any foot position. Since the cue “knees out” isn’t working so well, let me try “HIPS HIPS HIPS” and see how that goes.
Maschy, I see what you did there! Bad Maschy, but oh so good…
Rush concert tonight! Will the pre-concert dinner be a gyro sandwich, chicken n’ waffles or fancy Italian???
ya your knee cave is off the charts coo coo…wtg!
j/k
What about bottoms up squats? zerchers I think?
have a great day…oh and chicken n waffles sounds fantastic right about now(even though Im on team pancake)
Bottoms up squats would be great. The sad thing is that I don’t have access to a power rack. Just fixed rails, which are too low. I’ve tried to figure out a fix to this, but so far have failed. ![]()
Can I be on Team Pancake too?
Team pancake FTW.
Team pancake and country fried steak with sausage gravy… BOOM Head shot!
Whoops sorry I was in college again.
I read in Pendley’s thread in the CT forum, knee caving with DLs is associated with weak adductors, so squats are associated with weak abductors?
Interesting stuff.
You’re still a beast Kim. Love the “If I do something, I do it all the way” attitude ![]()
Team Pancake Parade with genu-freakin-uine maple syrup mes amies.
I need a moment.
Pancakes for the win! Especially with vanilla protein powder.
oo, yummy!!! But every time I’ve tried to make that if just tastes like vanilla cardboard. Granted, I don’t know what cardboard tastes like, but I can imagine.
for bottom up squats- stack risers, 1 set under each end of the barbell.
set down carefully, or put a plate/db on the risers so the loaded barbell doesnt roll off.
enough brilliance for tonight, you can thank me later.
Joe, I have to ask. Is country fried steak what I think it is (like fried chicken except its steak)??
Nikki, that is an interesting thought. I’ll have to go read that thread to see what he is talking about.
N., there is only one kind of maple syrup – the real kind. We are just lucky that there is lots near us.
Greeney, how do you make pancakes with protein powder? I thought that you couldn’t cook with it, but obviously I must be mistaken.
CBear, that is brilliant. There aren’t that many risers in the weight room, but I know where I might be able to steal some…(like, I know where the aerobics room is but don’t frequent it).
Today’s off the 5/3/1 reservation workout was probably the last outdoor undulating ropes and TRX workout of the season. I enjoyed the sunshine, and the high reps left me feeling pleasantly tired and sore.
Today is also a food penance day for yesterday’s gyro sandwich, falafel appetizer, 1/4 of a beer and some chocolate gelato. The point of weighing myself every AM is to catch the upward trend early enough to nip it in the bud before bad things (read, favorite Hudson jeans won’t fit me anymore) happen.
falafels!!!
We went to an Indian restraunt when the hubby was home, and they didn’t serve those delicious balls. ![]()
I was sad.
It’s fun to see weight fluctuations. How much extra can you get away with having? Have you gotten all scientific-y to try and figure it out?
Uhm yeah, that food sounds delicious. Gelato… and chocolate at that?!
I agree with weighing everyday. Of course there’s water weight and whatever else fluctuations, but it’s a good way to get the overall picture where your weight’s headed; up or down.
That does sound delicious!! I love middle eastern food (I’m actually part Armenian, an Argentinian Armenian, lol)
Btw, i just tried out TRX bands on Monday - holy hell! They work the body good.
Betty, that is an interestingly put question. I can’t answer how much extra I can get away with because I just don’t allow for more than a one pound leeway on either side of 111.5 lbs AM weight before I change my eating to compensate. There might be more leeway than that in reality, but not in my headspace.
Nikki, my water weight goes up to about 114.5 lbs. most days and then is back down to benchmark the next morning. If I am in that ballpark then all is well. If not, changes are made. This probably sounds pretty draconian and strict, but I just don’t want extra weight creeping up on me when I’m not looking.
Maschy, an Argentinian Armenian sounds like a delicious dish. ![]()
I’ll admit, it took me awhile to warm up to the TRX bands. But I’ve come to really value this bodyweight workout as a nice change from lifting heavy. Its almost like a deload for me.
