I’ve worked with customers for years and some of them were the rudest meanest people but I was not drawn into an argument with them because doing so would cost me my job.

This was kind of my point earlier. There generally IS a pretty short statute of limitations on responding to violence if it’s going to be self defense as opposed to retaliation, regardless of gender.
“He/She hit me and I was pissed so I hit him/her back” is understandable, but it is not justification, in the legal sense, unless the person still poses an imminent threat. Regardless of how anyone may feel about it, the law demands that we exercise self-control, even when we are provoked. It’s not always fair, but it’s not entirely a bad thing either.
I wonder if this will result in any actions taken to prevent this in the future.
The uppercut was the most right thing in this situation. It was pretty much required at that point, the problem is it should’ve never gotten to that point. How to handle situations needs to be taught to these bus drivers. It’s obvious that we live in a time where people feel entitled to act however they please. The second she gets aggressive she should’ve been punished, even if it was 2 days ago and somebody kicked her off the bus. Situation management should be addressed every year in any profession that requires handling 10 or more random people.
