Getting shredded at 47

Good morning folks,

Haven’t posted here in a long time but wanted to share my journey over the last 3 months, get any advice etc. and just add to the community. I got on TRT two years ago (felt like crap) and it helped immensely. Have been lifting, playing golf, and mountain biking but with kids, career and all that I have not done enough of any of them haha. Around Halloween 2025 I decided I wanted to lock in. Then I got the flu and was sick as a dog for two weeks with no training. I also didn’t feel like eating, which was a blessing, and I lost a good bit of weight and jump started the process. Since then, progress has been amazing (for me).

I am currently lifting 4 days a week (2 x legs and chest, 2 x Back, shoulders, and arms). I try to get in at least 3 cardio sessions a week for an hour, and do pullups and pushups one other day a week (I am chasing 20 consecutive pullups, hit 15 unbroken last week). I am pretty broken at this point in my life, both of my shoulders are fubar from mountain bike crashes, and years of playing goalie in hockey took a number on my lower back, knees and hips. I stick to lighter weights and higher reps, don’t squat or deadlift, don’t bench press or ever touch a barbell. It is unfortunate but it is what it is and I have found what works for my body. If anyone is interested I will post my routine and weights, but warning it is not impressive.

I have been tracking every calorie and staying below 2200 calories most days. Eggs and meat for breakfast, ground beef or turkey with rice or potatoes for lunch, tuna and an apple for an afternoon snack, and a healthy dinner with meat and veggies (no going back for more, a huge challenge for me LOL). I can’t do dairy or whey unfortunately, but recently discovered egg white proteing and added that in a few days ago, and hoping that will help. I take a Shilajit gummie every morning, multivitamin, 5,000 iu D-3, a couple dessicated liver pills, and 6 grams of creatine as well. Do a tbsp of Apple cider vinegar when I get home from work, and replaced beer with decaf coffee or herbal tea in the evening (really helps). I cut out all alcohol in early December and think that might have been the best change I have ever made to my life; I feel so much better throughout the day now.

I am nowhere nearly as advanced, as impressive etc. as all of you here, but I am really stoked on how things are going and so motivated to continue to work hard in the gym and keep my nutrition locked in. Once the temps warmup I think outdoor cardio and mountain biking will only help the fat loss too, and am looking forward to that. Sorry for the wall of text haha!

Thank you so much :face_holding_back_tears: . I picked up some BCAA’s this morning that I am going to add to the mix after reading a T-Nation article about them.

Great job.

I find walking to be a hack for me at 62 years old - I have bumped my steps every week for the last few and BF% is coming down with a slow decrease in weight.

Keep it up!

Good reminder for me to get those steps in. Now that it is warming up I am going to try to get out for a couple walks during work, and need to start getting a good walk with my dog every morning again.

Terrific progress! If what you are doing is working, no need to try something else. Ride that train until it doesn’t.

I had to Google this one. Never heard it. Not sure about taking something that oozes out of rocks but hey! If it’s working… great!

Looks like you are doing great! I’m looking forward to seeing where you take this.

It definitely sounds sketchy haha! Been running it since mid-December and have noticed an improvement in my mood (happier)…and bedroom. It has Ashwagandha in it too, and that may be what is actually making the difference, but I take one every morning first thing and swear by it now.

Heck yes! Dog walks are a staple for us. I’d be obese without 'em. :winking_face_with_tongue:

Way to go on all your progress!

Here is a picture of my bestie Willow. She is a standard poodle, turns 7 in March. We got her from an overwhelmed family with two little kids when she was 9 months old. Best dog I have ever had  .

Yesterday did legs and chest at lunch and an hour of easy cardio during my kiddos soccer practice.

Got 156 grams of protein, 99 grams of carbs, and 72 grams of fat. 1,661 total calories.

Workout:

Prowler 5 sets worked up to 235# (a set is pulling it the length of the lane at my gym, then pushing it back, really try to feel the quads work on the pull side)

Lying Hamstring curl 70# 3 sets of 12 then a dropset til I wanted to puke

Leg Extension 65# 12,12,15 the a dropset to fail

Floor Press with dumbbells 35# 12,12,15 then dropset

Pushups 17,14,8 superset with Calf Raises 3 sets of 15

Chest Fly 70# 12,11,11 then dropset

Cardio was 20 minutes on stairmaster at 7, then 40 minutes on treadmill 3.0 mph at 12% incline. Kept heartrate below 125 for the duration of both.

:joy: HAHA!

Last two days training and nutrition have been so on point. I think adding BCAA’s gave me a little extra go in the gym. Yesterday was back shoulders and arms and did a great hour of cardio today and had energy to spare even in a calorie deficit. Cardio was 30 minutes of intervals (2:00 hard 2:00 easy) on the stairmaster, then 30:00 of easy walking on the treadmill (12% 3mph). Threw in 50 pushups just because . Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Felt awesome today after a restful Sunday (swung the golf clubs….really well too ). Today was legs and chest, did prowler pushes, leg extensions, ham curls, calf raises, floor presses, pushups and flys. Lots of energy. Got in a 3 mile walk with the doggers after work too.

1700 calories, little low on protein at 143 grams. May have another egg white shake before bed. Weighed in at 163.5 this morning and saw a little more ab poking out. Yay!
