Getting Out of the Rat Race

I’d say all the naysayers are a bunch of pansies. I’ve picked up and moved a few times, and unless you are tied down to a house and kids it isn’t a problem to take off. Most times I’ve lined a job up beforehand but during my last move I left my job, got in my pick up and drove across the country with no job or place to stay lined up. I just ended up sleeping in my truck at truck stops for a few days until I found an apartment, and then found a job shortly after.

If I came across a beggar with that sign, I would give him cash for at least 3 or 4 karate lessons. That’s creative!

But what’s going on with your syntax, Vegita?

EDIT - I’m not sure what you do for a living Push but I’ve seen a few videos here and there from you (about deers), the photo of your “ride” being a horse and know very little about Montana - but that to me, living that lifestyle would be escaping the rat race for me. I don’t know how long I could do it for, but it would give a lot of pleasure even if it was for a short time.
I did “the move” thing that the OP mentioned when:

 1. I was 18, single, living in Florida & attending college in TX. Just up and moved to eastern Montana and went to work on a ranch. No family there.

 2. I was 24, married, no kids, and living in Montana & bored. Just up and moved to Alaska with no job in sight. No family there.

 3. When 26, married, no kids, and living in Alaska & the oil boom busted and the economy there went to shit. Just up and moved back to Montana with no job in sight. No family there.

A long time ago (late 70s, early 80s) I read an article in Outside magazine where the topic of “Where should I live” was mentioned in an article.

One opinion was “Live where you can best make a living and go to the places you want to see on your vacation time and with your big fat wallet firmly ensconced in your pocket.”

The other opinion was “Move to where you want to be and find work there.”

I obviously went with #2.

I do now have the luxury of having been almost everywhere in the US (except parts of New England) and much of Canada. I’ve seen it all…from Key West to Denali National Park and from Kauai to Tijuana to Boston. I know what much of the rest of North America looks like and a fair amount of what the lifestyles of folks out there are. So I think I may have some insight in this regard.

Comes down to this > > > if you’re more skeered of “What if I never go…” than you are of “What if I fail when I do go…” then you need to pack your saddlebags, climb on your steed, and head out.
x2

If you’ve got some brains, talent, and a willingness to work, you can make it just about anywhere. Might as well pick a place you actually want to be. Timidity and fear of taking a risk never accomplished anything.

This state probably has one of the highest standards of living in the country.

And it’s our taxes that pay all your welfare checks in places like Missouri.

Jersey ShooooooOOOOOooooorrrreeee! Thats all anyone knows about Jersey. Forget your high standardized test scores, and high standard of living and your gardens, and your polluted waterways, all anyone knows is Jersey emmer-effing shore. ha ha ha ha.

Missouri is paradise btw. The entire state top to bottom east to west.

Eat a dick. Missouri is a great place to live and easily far more interesting than Kansas.

Also, I came out to Arizona to get away from Missouri, and to go to college. But mostly it was to get away, and I had only ever visited the state once when I was 6 before I moved out here. I have to say that I completely advocate starting over, it’s a great experience.
You’re just mad because the Great State of Kansas is home to the best basketball team in history, Kansas University.

Edit: And, I love Missouri best BBQ in the world, plus we all know that Arkansas, by far, exceeds the second worst state in the Union, California.

Speaking on New Jersey, why would anyone want to live in Kansas or Missouri? Horrible places, plus Miss Kansas ain’t nothing really to look at either.

Let’s not talk about the current Miss Kansas either, we should have done the competition with a bag over her head.

And, the outdoors? Just makes you hot and sweaty.
