315 Has always been a mental stumbling block for me. Something about it makes me struggle. I have skipped right over it in the past and been stronger at 335 - 350 but 315 feels like 515…
Nice work Grey!

That could explain why it was my max for years. Thought it was just old age, that was all there was, and the best I could hope for was to hold on to that weight. Got with some different guys, and doing different stuff…found out it wasn’t me, it was what I was/or wasn’t doing.
1-15-2012 Me lower body
warmed up to 255 plus heavy bands, 3 sets of 3. Another guy showed up to use monolift, so we removed bands.
345x3, put on squat suit, straps down 345x2x2, trying to get my knees out and to sit back.
435x1 with straps up…not hitting depth, but the weight feels easy.
485x1, had buddy wrap knees, waayy tight…calves purple tight! Maybe a quarter squat, knees wouldnt bend, belt too tight with suit on, felt like I couldn’t breathe. Actually felt light headed for a second. Came back up easy thou. Dang…CNS is awake now!
Front squats, 225x5, 245x5, 275x3
GHR moved pad a notch, made them harder, 3x6
Back is a little sore, but hips feel good.
Was that the first time someone has wrapped your knees that tight?
I almost fell over the first time someone else wrapped for me.
Damn fine squatting.

Thanks Joe, I usually wrap my knees myself. I thought I wrapped them tight…nope.
The knee wraps are what stopped me, not the suit. All I could feel was those wraps cutting into the back of my legs. He said you get used to it, but I swear they wouldn’t bend anymore.
You will get sued to it, not that it won’t still hurt.
I wrap myself most of the time and I can get them fairly tight but someone else can really crank them down.
Friday did some accessory work.
Pulls ups 5 sets of 8.
Bent over rows, 185x10, 225x8x3
seated cable rows v-handle 200x8, 210x8, 220x6
seated DB press 70x10, 80x8, 85x6
side laterals 35x8x3
pec dec reverse flys 140x10, 150x8x3
close grip bench, 185x10, 225x8, 245x7
weighted dips, 80x8x4
I decided to do a non-sanctioned meet this weekend. Last night worked up to my bench opener of 335, and shut it down. It’s really hard for me to back it down, even when I know I need it.
wendsday, weighed a lean 198.
Did some light squats up to a set of 5 @ 315. Then pumped up the arms. I don’t know how guys take the week off prior to a competition, I’m chomping at the bit!
Your numbers for your weight are outstanding.
Any idea what your third attempt might be?
Hey Joe, 355 bench, 450 squat, 480-490 dead. The dead is kind of an unknown. I have been pulling after heavy squats so I kinda don’t know what it is going to be.
training is looking good, good luck at the meet.
that week of deload before a meet drives me nuts. by the end of it I am more interested in getting back to training than I am the meet itself
Damn, this is one of the most impressive logs I’ve ever read, on multiple fronts!
Best of luck at your meet(s).
Thanks Pete, Me too! I don’t need or like a whole week of not lifting…2-3 days off, and I’m ready to go.
punnyguy, Thank you, I appreciate it.
Competed in my friends pl meet. There were only eight of us, it was fun, didn’t get hurt, and got an idea were I was at.
Bench and dead about were I thought…left some weight on the platform in the squat. No monolift, so we walked the weight out, hadn’t done that in a while. Don’t know if that had an effect or not.
Squat 425, Bench 355, Dead 475
5 lb pr on bench, 25 on dead, 35 on total
355 bench grinder
425 squat, got back on my heels, and thought I was going fall backwards. Thinking I got another 20-25 lbs here if my form is right.
Yes, I turn purple.
Congrats on the impressive results. Phenomenal effort on the bench.
congrats on the meet, and yes walking out the squat takes some out of you…do Brutes Strength meet with the monolift next ![]()

Thanks!, After watching it, that lift felt alot longer than it was.
