I think I was just afraid to really use my belt to the best of my ability, but I’ve found two things.
1.) cleaning the bar puts me in a MUCH better position to press than unracking it
2.) I know how to use my belt, squeeze my glutes, and lean back. I fixed my technique and my press moved for the first time in a year.
I think I can press more than I can clean, right now. Probably means I really need to put some time into getting better at cleaning.
Just continental: it’s what the cool kids do.
I haven’t worked on doing a continental clean at all. I can clean more weight on a log than I can on a barbell, though. I can clean a 210# log right now, but I can’t get it overhead.
Similar situation. I can continental more than I can log clean, but I can log clean more than I can barbell clean.
I cannot deadlift two days before I squat. My lower back does not recover fast enough, and I paid for it today. I was only able to double something I should have been able to get for 5 reps on a bad day. Today also sucked. Only place to go is up.
Moving into a cycle focusing on squats, since those have gone into the shitter.
Also, I made my belt a notch too tight.

Nice workout. In my experience, deadlifting doesn’t benefit from a lot of volume the way squatting does. I deadlift every other training day, back squat every other day, but I do a squat accessory (front squat or Zercher squat) every day. I recover from high squat volume way better than high deadlift volume, and my deadlift is always substantially stronger than my squat.
Another BW PR: woke up at 167 pounds after using the bathroom. Feeling okay today. Also, biked for an hour on Friday.
Going to hit a deload week, rest, eat, and come back ready to hit bigger numbers. Haven’t taken a true deload in a few months.
I’m also going to experiment with (gasp!) sumo deadlifts. ![]()

Alright. Sumo deadlifting went well. Felt drained going into this and still had another rep in the tank, so I’ll take the win. It felt odd, but looked better than my conventional, so I guess I’m doing it correctly. Technique gains may come on quickly anyway.
