Getting Compliments

This guy came up to me while I was deadlifting the other day.

He asked, “Where do you get your juice?”

I replied, “Target.”

I’m not very big, so that was a pretty huge compliment.

Being a FFB (211lbs @ I dunno, massive BF% maybe like 40???), compliments make you remember that you NEVER want to be fat again. When I finished my “Weight loss phase” I was 143lbs (I know, I know) and looked like crap. Now I’m 160lbs and far from where I want to be, but I’m making progress. People that didn’t know “fat” me, are shocked when they see pics of the old me.

My best comment yet was when I ran into cute girl from college, 3 years later, and she says “you know, I used to go to school with a guy that kinda looked like you, but he was really out of shape.” hahaha…

I kept my old drivers licence as a constant reminder to never get fat again!

This wasn’t really a compliment, but it was just as sweet as one. A 60 year old lady doing tricep pushdowns just COULD NOT believe that I was about to deadlift 305lbs. And she said so many times, she even compared it to “those guys that pull trucks and stuff.” She would have been even more amazed had she known I was warming up for reps.

Some chick the other day asked me to help her get the 45lb plates off of the hammer strength BP machine because they were “too heavy”. I am starting to appreciate some of the people at my gym. None of them are fit, but at least they either amazed or they utilize my meathead abilities rather than being annoyed about my messy chalk and sometimes loud noises that go with certain training days. After hearing about the “lunk alarm” I am always paranoid about people’s mentalities now, but thankfully the people I have run into have been cool.

I guess I don’t like compliments because they aren’t from people in the “game” or lifestyle usually. Most of my friends don’t lift or don’t train seriously so their opinion matters very little. When a guy(amatuer bodybuilder) who trains around the same time as I have been at school told me I’ve grown(over the summer) that was a compliment I liked.

I got a small applause after DL’n 425 yesterday…but I wasn’t satisfied since I’m aiming for 450 then 500

Why be satisfied? There’s always room for improvement

I usually just give a polite thank you.

I find that I get the most compliments when shopping for dress shirts and suits. The sales people always go on and on about how I need tapered shirts and that they can custom make some.

It is flattering to know your hard work shows even though it isn’t hard to be in better shape than the majority.

People are always wowed by this. I think it’s because they’ve never seen it done.

My funniest story is I was wearing shorts and one pretty hot and pretty crazy in girl in my class (this was in high school) just drops down to the floor, wraps herself around my shins, strokes my calves, and tell me and everyone in the room how enamored she is with their perfect size and shape.

Then there are the conversations that start out like

Person: You have no neck!

Me: I don’t think that’s exactly true but thanks.

Person: So do you take like creatine?

Me: Well I did use creatine a few years ago but it just didn’t help me that much. I do try to drink a lot of skim milk.

Person: Oh my god! Creatine shrinks your balls and causes liver failure. And ice cream makes me fat so milk must make everyone fat. Why would you drink milk if you’re trying to gain muscle.

Me: Oh Christ, you’re one of them.
