I had them a couple years ago when I was 17, and had to cut it short because I had to go to basic training. That sucked because now they arenāt completely 100% fixed, and it didnāt help that I never wore my retainerā¦
Biggest tip I have: Never miss an appointment. If you do, youāll get delayed a week or so (at least that was the case with me), and youāll just be having extra weeks added on with your braces.

Well, Im getting braces this Thursday and I feel like shit about it.
Im going to have them in place for about 2 1/2 years. I also need to pull down some teeth that are up in my gums somewhere.
Im currently 19 so Ill have them on till Im around 21 1/2. (College braces ftl)
Anyone else get braces at this age bracket?
Any useful advice about braces I ought to know? And about the incoming misery coming upon me.

I have several 30+ year old patients getting braces now. You seem to think negatively about them. They are pretty common now and not just for kids. People are keeping their teeth longer than ever before which only means older and older patients will be getting braces over time.
As far as what you need to be aware of, cleaning seems to be a problem with many of the patients who get them (especially kids because they donāt pay attention). It isnāt uncommon to see several areas of decay around those brackets over time because they only brush once a dayā¦and when they do brush, they miss several areas because it is more difficult to clean around.
A Sonicair toothbrush can help you take better care of your teeth while you are in braces. I would rate those spin brushes as second best.

Even bigger tip for youā¦if you decide to get braces again in the military, make sure you will be stationed at that base for at least two years so that specific doctor can follow your case.
as PB Andy mentionsā¦ Invisible braces are not an option?
My friend has some āinvisilineā??? braces which she can actually take out of her mouth. Usually when she is eating.
I donāt know much about them though.
After 4 years with braces, Iām finally getting them off in Juneā¦ at age 46! I also had an adult tooth up in my gums that had to be brought down.
There were times when braces sucked (like when you chew up the inside of your cheeks or your tongue), but overall itās worth it for appearance sake as well as a good bite.
Iām having the Army pay for braces for me. Iām 26. Yeah, it wonāt be cool, but what the hell. A year or so now to have perfect teeth for the rest of my lifeā¦! Canāt pass it up.
Itās not like the euro trash girls are going to mind.haha

x2
I got braces while on an AF base in Japan, and ended up moving after about 18 months. My new doc ended up doing a good job of carrying out the job, though it took longer, about 4 years total.
If your doc has you wearing bands, DO IT, ALL DAY, EVERY DAY. Theyāre a pain in the ass, having to take them out to eat and them breaking, but it helps get everything where it needs to be.
At least you wonāt need to have your jaw broken like I did.
Had them the whole time in Middle school. All i have to say is thank god my parents got them done for me early. They were such a pain in the ass and since my teeth were all messed up they hurt half the time from being moved.
15 years later and i still wear a retainer most of the time at night.

yea, I think invisiline is for those that donāt have overly crooked FUCKED up teeth.
I had braces back in middle school. Braces were a bitch after being tightened. You get them tightened every month or so and your teeth are sore for weeks. Enjoy sucking your meals through a straw!! Chewing is going to be awfully painful!!
They suck bag. Had mine for around a year and a half maybe. Supposed to wear a retainer full time, but I eat constantly now, so I do not have to. So get your retainer on soon, helps gain weight! On a more serious note, use toothpaste, and listed and do whatever they say to do full out, not half ass

Yeah, ill most likely be brushing my teeth 3-4 times a day and especially after every meal I eat at home.
Yes I do think negatively about them. There is nothing positive of wearing them only negatives. The only positive comes when its time to take them off!
I cant use invislign since I need to pull teeth out from the top, forgot exactly the name of the teeth. I DONT HAVE to pull them out, so Im guessing If I dont I can use invislign but I rather have them pulled down to replace the other ones so my teeth are all the same size.
Worst 3 years of my life. Hurts when u get them on.The inside of your mouth get cut to pieces.
The worse bit it when u get them tightened every month.U can not eat anything solid for 2-3 days because any pressure on your teeth is very VERY painful.
I still have chunks missing from the back of the inside of my mouth where the hooks for the elastic bands rubbed for the 3 years.
Girls did not want to go near me because i was āmetal mouthā and ātrain tracksā
I feel sorry for u man,i hated them.
BUT the great thing is when i get them off u have some great looking teeth.Just dont forget to wear your plate.
When I had them they were actual bands of metal around the whole tooth.Guy had to hammer them on like they were bands on an oak barrel.Fuck it hurt like a bitch.I donāt think they design them like that anymore. But the day they get ripped out you will always remember. My teeth felt like glass, like one big tooth,no gapsā¦sooo good.Donāt sweat it to much itās worth it.
Iām 29, and Iāll be getting braces in the next month or so. Iāll also have to get my jaw re-set, but I think the end result will be worth it. Iāll also know that if I find a woman while in them, sheāll definitely be a keeper! LOL
