George Floyd Riots

You just condoned and condemned the violence in one post, which is it?
Nothing that happened in Seattle was cool. It was sheer madness… I consider it madness not to recognize the madness. Its like a blindness to the obvious. None of it was ok. When your fun and games is someone elses worst nightmare, it’s not ok. Its not ok to excuae it either.

That’s good silence, they just don’t like the bad kind of silence. Like admitting everybody not black are racists by nature.
Good news for me, I cant help it, I don’t have get on my knees and bow to the new religion…

No. Your still a dick. Your just a cooler dick if you want to cut yours off.

If you could read, you would know.

Damn, protesting peacefully is expensive…

16 million was requested from FEMA. The 500 million is a result of fake news doing the whole fake thing.

The gov said there was 500 million in damage and the fake news used that figure to come up with how much was requested.

Damn, protesting peacefully is expensive.

It’s ok, insurance will pay for most of it.

It’s just like shoplifting.

I apologize for this reaction. I am just pissed at the state of things and I should not have taken it out on you.

My problem is that ‘some people did good things’ can be argued in any situation. During wars there are untold amounts of good that people do to each other in the face of the most horrific circumstances, it doesn’t make the context any better. That not everyone in CHAZ is a maniac is granted. But the whole seizure of property and forced occupation of a city zone is just not ok…
Unless of course one considers this a war. War, after all is a real-estate ‘game’.
But if you want war, watch out, you will get it. Ever since 9/11 I have believed everybody who declares war on us. It’s a safe assumption they are not kidding. BLM-NY said as much and that is a scary proposition. They didn’t say ‘war’, but that they will ‘use any means necessary’ and will not stop until ‘their demands are met’.

Not good, but don’t move out of NY! You made your bed, sleep in it and keep your crazy politics out of my neighborhood.

BLM will use any means necessary? I seriously doubt that. They are not a T-800 Terminator.

Substitute idiot for means.

That’s what the the guy Hawk Newsome, said it. The interview is here:

You can criticize the news source, but those are his words at the end of the interview.

“I just want black liberation and black sovereignty, by any means necessary.”
Besides the fact that also wants segregation, he said by ‘any means necessary’. It begs the question what price is he willing to pay, because ‘any means necessary’ also means every reaction possible. What happens when the effort fails? What happens when people stop caring? People burn out on things, especially those things that require immense energy. He has his 15 minutes now, what’s he going to do to maintain the pressure? Sounds like anything he deems ‘necessary’.
There has been too much violence and death already, how much more?

Pretty sure it is just an exaggeration. Many who support the movement are supporting ending police violence, and IMO, most will stop their support if/when BLM comes out with their more extreme positions.

I don’t think we should dismiss police violence, because black on black violence is a larger issue. I have seen this logic a bit lately, and it isn’t sound. I saw that line of thinking from a Hodge twins video I watched (or at least I inferred that was their point). We should work on fixing both issues.

No worries, i appreciate the thought though.

I generally agree with what you are saying… where we differ is that i dont buy into what i see as slippery slope fear mongering. We very likely agree on what is good and bad in a vacumn. But this isnt happening in a vacuum, and i think that context is being intentionally ignored by some.

We are doing the reverse.

As they are black men, I would not dismiss their opinion on the issue.

But we aren’t. If you are black and mention it, you are a coon or Uncle Tom. If you are white, you are a racist.

I never said any of that. Police abuse has been a problem for a long time and I think its fair to say that blacks have been on the receiving end of disproportionate police malfeasance and it needs to stop. No argument from me on that.

I am, however, not willing to engage in the discussion until the violence stops. It looks like blood lust to me, not police protest.

As for being an exaggeration, well I don’t know. Maybe, but I am not willing to believe that in this year and time. The man said he was willing to engage in ‘any means necessary’ and I think it’s best we take him at his word.
NY city is a hell hole, people are leaving in droves. All that will be left is poor people, activists and the police. NYC does not need to exist anymore given technology does not require people to live there anymore. So preserving it is nostalgia. No reason to save NYC. We can give them what they want, but they have to stay there.

What? I don’t see promotion of black on black violence? Not sure that is what you are getting at.

I don’t care what color they are, I care about the soundness of the argument.

Well that is just silly. I guess if a rational argument doesn’t work on someone, then I am not really worried about convincing them, or their opinion of me.

Agree.

I am unaware. Open to data if you have it. I know a few have died, but when considering math, I don’t think I could label it as blood lust.

I think the rich ones are due to corona virus. I think that has more to do with them having second houses in areas with much less virus. Maybe people are leaving due to BLM protests, but I haven’t seen data that indicates large percentages are leaving.

I think it’s the context that is the problem. Seeing as how every piece of hyperbole and exaggerations are things we are talking about in real time now, I have come to the conclusion that if you leave open the possibility for a slippery-slope than the ‘it’ is going to slide right down into it’s inevitable, worst case scenario. There is so much bizarre shit going on, that has been normalized there is no clear line as to where is stops.
It wasn’t long ago that ‘abolish police’ was a ridiculous far-leftist trope, now it’s happening. Naturally, crime is exploding and nobody cares.
The bottom of the slope is now normal. Taking things to the extreme is now normal.

How long ago was it when people were saying, “Oh it’s just Confederate statues.”
“Next it will be Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln!”
"Don’t be silly, that’s ridiculous! Never going to happen! Paranoid weirdo!
Welp, here we are. Got on the slippery slope went through legit abolitionists and they are burning statues of the Virgin Mary now… Is Jesus next, you bet! Lenin seems, ironically to be safe.

Most are leaving because quarantine in a Big City is a lot rougher than quarantine in the burbs, or in the country. The whole point of living in NYC was the food/bar/music/culture scene… none of that is happening or will happen for the foreseeable history.
