And if you look carefully you can see their answer to the “racism of low expectations” accusation in the chart. They don’t have low expectations, you just have a problem with “perfectionism” and that’s racist. They don’t have a complete disregard for facts in favor of emotion, you just have a problem with objectivity which is racist.
Just say you don’t identify as white.
When I had to watch a video on white privilege, which used a race on a track as an analogy, the white guy was your standard preppy looking guy who had a head start and no obstacles. The black guy had a delayed start and there were obstacles in his way.
I asked the professor, if that was supposed to be all white men because the majority don’t have it that easy. The professor agreed. I also said that not all black people are poor and she agreed. So we are supposed to base how we view privilege based on stereotypes and prejudices, which sounds like the seeds of racism.
These people don’t see their own hypocrisies and incongruities. To be fair, I think the professor questioned the video as many of us voiced the same objections.
Sad but predictable times we live in. Prayers for the family of Secoria Turner.
Haven’t seen you in a while Sloth? Been busy elsewhere?
I have some health issues related to portal vein thrombosis, portal hypertension, and (as a result of the previously mentioned) esophageal varicies. It’s kept me pretty occupied. And to be honest, I’m also kind of in a political slump. I feel as if the slide was indeed very slippery. And we’ve gained too much momentum on our way down to stop. In addition, I haven’t been able to bring myself to support either of the two mainstream political parties either so that’s also left me politically despondent. Ah, I relish the simplicity of simply voting for the R’s. Anyways, for some time now I have had no desire to speak on political matters. Not even my own family has been able get me to voice my opinions on a whole host of things. But the disproportionate responses, the subservience, the grudges and hatred…It’s hard to keep to oneself even when one feels like it’s futile.
Welp…I can pretty much identify with all of those things politically (except I keep smacking my head into a wall on this forum for some reason I’m not sure of).
Really hope your health issues have gotten sorted out mate!
Thank you, man!
I’m pretty much at the end of a long and extensive testing and waiting phase. Waiting on a final decision about treatment. Could be as ‘simple’ as banding and remaining on the propanolol as preventive measures for a possible esophageal bleed. Or, it could be as complex as multi-visceral transplant. Waiting on the hepatologist to make his final determination.
I hope it’s an accurate determination on his part, and he doesn’t keep you waiting too long.
I just sort of conjectured it, sorry if that is too far out on a limb. Still, you have to wonder what kind of inclination someone has to do it, maybe more my point.
Not at all, I just wasn’t sure where you read it lol
Ok so my hot take.
George Floyd was murdered. Oh wait, the outrage was pretty universal on both sides of the aisle. The cops should be arrested. Oh wait, they were.
I acknowledge white privilege and the continued existence of racism. I reject the notion that they are remotely the biggest hurdles (much less dangers) to young black men coming up today.
When I look at numbers of unarmed black men killed by police (and even an unarmed encounter can lead to a legitimate lethal force usage in self defense) I flat out do not see an epidemic as I see some claiming it to be.
In absolute terms whites are killed by police more often. Rates? Ok, I give you that. But then this invites us to point out that HALF the share of homicide victims and offenders are black. Half of all, for both…Folks, there is no way we can expect a proportionate share of death by cop with such out of balance violence/homicide numbers. That is an absolutely impossible expectation.
Still, I do believe the country could do better in its policing, drug laws, education and job training, and in figuring out how to advance African Americans up to the starting line as a whole. Doesn’t seem fair to expect a group to be running neck to neck with the rest of us while having to start from further back.
But again, a LOT of the heavy lifting will have to come from within black communities, homes, and INTACT families. BLM with it’s explicitly anti-western family structure stance is the last group that needs to be heading that.
The numbers are actually rather low compared to many majority-black countries. Police brutality and unwarranted killings are a problem, but trying to frame it as a racial issue is a problem as well.
Memorial for victims of communism vandalized by communists:
The funny thing is that this isn’t reported in any mainstream news, but if someone draws a swastika or calls someone a racial slur in public it’s on the front page.
Rioting okay, but…
Seriously, tearing down statues is no problem but covering a mural gets you charged? The west is turning communist it seems.
Are the people tearing down statues easily identifiable and being identified to authorities? And are they doing it amidst a crowd of people unsympathetic to their cause who are motivated to have them punished? Do you know that no one is getting charged for tearing down statues? Is it possible you arent seeing those stories either? I’m not justifying their actions, just offering some thoughts on why some folks get charged, while others do not.
Maybe they should have worn masks while defacing public property… but that would mean falling on the “wrong” side of the politicized mask issue here in the USA. Kind of funny catch-22 for the trumpers, if you think about it.
What’s funny is that these are the same people who believe Rayshard Brooks should not have been arrested for DUI, and they don’t dispute he was, and instead have been given a ride home. I don’t know if vandalism ever killed anyone but we do know that drunk drivers have killed many people.
Are they getting charged with hate crimes?
If they meet the DOJ definition of hate crime they probably would be, but the instances i know of do not sound like they do: crimes that manifest evidence of prejudice based on race, gender or gender identity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or ethnicity
If they were found saying or posting that they did it because they were statues of white males, then it might fall under that category?
