It would be better if it was on a desert island or somewhere like that, they could turn it into a reality show too.
The cops killed another black guy in Atlanta and there was more rioting over there. A white girl burned down the Wendy’s where he got shot. So we will see what really happens, but this case doesn’t really seem so controversial because the guy took a cop’s taser and tried to fire it at him when he got shot. He was drunk and sleeping in his car in the drive-thru when they showed up.
Nothing will change for the better, but I can see some things changing. Like all these people calling for defunding the police, likely some places will cut the police budget. Also more cops will get fired or charged for questionable stuff, which might have some positive outcomes but then also make cops hesitate to do what is necessary because they are scared of ending up in a bunch of legal problems and losing their jobs. In other words, the likely outcome is more bullshit that won’t fix anything.
In Brooklyn, New York, on Sunday, thousands gathered for a rally and silent march for black transgender lives. Organisers estimate that 15,000 people assembled for the event.
Seems like lincoln isnt the issue, but the imagery of him standing over the kneeling slave is the issue like a master over his dog. The imagery is not of two equals.
Replace it with a statue of Lincoln holding a slaves hand in the air in victory with broken chains on the slaves wrist and a hammer in lincolns hand, and i bet folks would be OK with it. Or, just a statue of Ol’ Abe would be fine too. Maybe not.
The former slave is not kneeling; he is in the process of standing up. He is not kneeling before Lincoln either way. Lincoln is between the former slave and a whipping post, inviting him to stand with him.
The Democratic Party itself seems oddly immune from this entire line of criticism. If Lincoln isn’t woke and inoffensive enough, what can be said about the party that supported slavery then and still supported racist laws 100 years later?
Robert Byrd organized a KKK chapter and he only left the U.S. Senate 10 years ago, receiving very high praise for his fine work from Obama, Biden, Hillary and all of the other heavy-hitters, by the way.
Is there a plaque explaining this? There sure outta be, that makes for a much more inspiring statue. People suck at interpreting art, so a $100 plaque might be the answer here.
I actually think a plaque explaining the artist’s intent should accompany all public art pieces.
Actually, I dont think it would be a bad idea for the municipality or jurisdiction to install a learning plaque with any memorial or historical statue/installation. I know more than a few people that are annoyingly slow on tours because they LOVE to read every goddamn plaque or sign.
Then again, i am against using public money or charity for art, so how about a moratorium on new installations and we all call it good?
Because the media is on their side. With all this talk about defund the police, people forgot that it was under Bill Clinton that the “three strikes” laws were passed, resulting in so many more black people going to jail for life. But don’t expect CNN to remind you of that.
I live in the suburbs and have job skills that are in demand all over the country. Chicago can turn into Fallujah on steroids and it won’t affect me. I probably agree with more democrat positions than Republican but if the democrats allow the intellectually challenged and emotionally fragile to dictate policy then I would be tempted to vote republican in the hope that it would knock some sense into them.
