I don’t dispute this. I am certain that the vast majority of interactions are different. I am arguing that the training itself is indeed to overuse force. “Appropriate” levels of force can be subjective, and the standard applied to law enforcement training is on the heavy handed side. I know you will disagree with me, your POV is different. You are doing what you think is the correct level, and sometimes somebody gets carried away. I’m saying it’s too close to the line to begin with, nd that is in large part in an attempt to minimize risk for Law Enforcement, and is often escalatted out of control by the people, not the actual officers. The bystanders or companions usually add stress to contributes, especially in bad neighbourhoods.
No, I absolutely know it can happen to me. My brother had his head bashed in with a mag light while cuffed, and I’ve gotten bapped around a few times myself, another old buddy of mine is a multi-millionaire thanks to one police department, and another has sever an permanent brain damage thanks to the same department, from an injury surprisingly similar to the one shown. The dude got thrown in a cell showing no external bleeding, then lapsed into a coma due to a brain bleed. Laid there untreated for 8 hrs. because the police thought he was just drunk and passed out.
I also fully support legal recourse. Both civil and criminal. The police that do these things should go to prison just like anybody else, and the communities that employ them (or their insurers) need to pay for their crappy decisions.
But I also believe in personal responsibility and common sense.
There is NOTHING in that video that says those cops were there to talk. So I’m not making excuses for either of them. The guy was off kilter for approaching like that, and the cops were pricks for their part.
Like I said, not something I would ever do. I’m kinda all or none when it comes to violence, so I do my best to avoid it.

Fair enough. I don’t think he really had any acceptable reason for approaching them in the first place, but two wrongs certainly don’t make a right in this case.
They gave it to me at the hospital a couple times when I went there with a dislocated shoulder. Maybe they gave me too much, both times it knocked me right out. When I woke up, the feeling was kind of like if I was a bit drunk and smoked some weed, at least that was what I compared it to at the time. If that’s your thing then I guess it’s nice, but certainly not worth getting addicted to or overdosing.
Do me a favor and look up thread for the Politico article I posted, which gives numbers and the alphabet soup of agencies which were/are on the streets this week. There’s lots of issues here IMHO…

If they’re serious about addressing historical grievances, shouldn’t then the Irish and the Indians be burning the city to the ground?
On a side note - my childhood friend was a well known name on the football ultra (read: hooligan) scene and was always impressed by UK police and their ability to resolve conflicts without resorting to excessive force.

We’re too busy with jobs to engage with protests that don’t relate to us directly. The Indians have to manage all those small businesses, and so are happy to give it a miss.
They can be very good at that. Not sure this mess reflects well on the Mayor or the Chief of the Met.
I think the fact that schools are closed and so many people are unemployed has a lot to do with it, there was nothing else stopping them from joining previous protests.
The funny thing that someone pointed out to me, there was a protest in Ottawa the other day but if you see some videos and pictures you might think it was all white people. Like they went in groups and stood up for black people, but kept their distance too. A segregated anti-racism protest?
