Eh, the old ways seem marxist by coincidence. Older cultures were more collective by necessity because all resources were typically shared (which meant you had to pull your weight, or were a danger to the rest of the community). Newer more individualistic societies rely less on community for survival, and more on the family unit. Thats my take on why a “traditional” culture is nearly always going to be more “marxist” looking.
And forgetting all the while that Black Africans profited immensely from the slave trade as well.
Keep in mind, this is coming from Marxists. In other words, these interpretations of traditional cultures are seen through a Marxist lens and written down through a Marxist filter. This is why they avoid mentioning other aspects of these cultures that are not “Marxist” like slavery, polygamy, religion, monarchy.

I dont doubt that at all. Take the part of traditional culture that you currently identify with and say that you are just trying to conserve traditional values. Abortion, gay rights, communal parenting and resource sharing, etc. Its not a bad thing to take what you see as good parts of traditional culture and leave the bad parts behind. thats progress.
But, just like you were saying it is an unfair criticism for afrocentrists to look at the nuclear family as an either or situation, it is also an unfair criticism to say that either the afrocentrists embrace ALL of the traditional ways (including polygamy and slavery), or NONE of the traditional ways.
That said, i do think it is very fair to say that these traditional values are being used to push a socialist/marxist agenda currently.

It is fair when they are not saying that they embrace certain aspects of traditional culture but rather refer to traditional culture in a way that implies it’s the whole culture. The thing is, they can’t say that because it would mean saying that the culture they are holding up as pure, had its flaws. Which then makes it just like every other culture rather than exceptional. It’s why they have to define white culture (a term that makes no sense) by those things which oppose the values they extol from African culture (another nonsensical term). If they brought up how Africa had monarchies, slavery, war, class structure, etc., it would make Africa seem a lot more like Europe. If they brought up how the extended family played, and plays, a very important role in many European nations, Africa wouldn’t seem so exceptional.
And this exposes these people as either liars and con artists or ignorant idiots. The writer of the above article hates capitalism. He is a Marxist. He might want to learn about African economies, not current ones but past ones. The Kingdom of Dahomey sold slaves to Europeans in order to have the funds to be able to purchase firearms from the Danish. They used these guns to conquer their neighbors (and get more slaves). They were not Marxists but monarchists. They were closer to capitalism than Marxism. They have this view of Africa they saw on Roots. The whole it takes a village to raise a child idea. Africans lived simply, in huts, and women ran everything.
But, when they can hide their Marxism behind traditional African culture, it makes it makes it harder for someone to attack it. Because the response will inevitably be: you’re a racist.

Clearly Portland is feckless and hopeless. The Mayor\ Police chief has resorted to begging on his knees for the rioters to stop… Keep in mind this is pouring over into the residential neighborhoods and suburbs now. Apparently, there are no gun owners there.

What we all thought was going to happen is happening and rioters are now being confronted by civilians ready to use force and violence is breaking out as police do not have the resources to keep groups separated.
