There will always be a way when it’s about taxes.

Exactly. If the cops don’t come and a bunch of BLM rioters come to your house and kick you and your family out, who is going to make them leave?
The scenario is particularly scary in that, it’s not far from reality. If people are already demanding it, going to you door and shouting at you to leave your gentrified house, painting graffiti on it and nobody stand up to them, what is to stop them from going that one extra step? What if this was a dry run?
It’s possible, its a bit conspiratorial but not so much as to say it’s not possible. I don’t know, I guess we will see.

What if they defund him? ā€œNo electricity for you!ā€ If this neighborhood had a spine, it would have already been a beat-down.
I am not for starting violence, but I have no problem with somebody stopping violence, especially when it’s an imminent threat.

He would bother me less, if he at least would give a gentle nod to the victims of the violence. There are real people, getting really hurt and it’s not a small number. But no, each and every time he gives cover to the rioters, who are doing the worst things and minimizes the victim’s plight in all of this. ā€˜It’s not that big.’ ā€˜Wasn’t as bad as people think.’ ā€˜They weren’t actually trying to kill those cops.’
He’s entitled to his opinion, but in trying to sound measured, he ends up coming off unhinged.

Night 78? They say 80, but I think it’s actually 78, who’s counting?
Meanwhile in Portland, just another night of peaceful rioting:

And in Seattle, ā€œmostly peacefulā€ protests turn violent, again:

Then there was Michigan, Chicago, Stone Mountain, and on and on…

They’ve probably been released by now.

Hard not to when you are defending a radial Marxist movement.

You live nearby or what? I was sure you said you live there.

Not the impression I was getting

I’m his adopted son.

The policy of catch and release of low level repeat offenders has been a long running problem (long before rioters). But, logistically it doesnt really make sense to jail and prosecute cases against all those folks, not to mention the legal issues with a judge denying bail to someone the state says is a rioter, but the defense says was a peaceful protestor falsely accused.

Kind of seems like this has no real end in sight. The PDX rioters are just throwing a tantrum with no REAL goals in mind, and the govt doesnt have the public support to forcefully squash the riots.

I kind of see this going one of 2 ways:

  1. This keeps happening nightly for the next couple months before the rioters just burn themselves out. This can only happen if the govt does nothing to re-stoke the fire, and there is no doubt in my mind that the trump campaign will continue to stoke this fire and point to it for blatant fear mongering (that 3/4 of this board has already fallen for).

  2. The local BLM chapters get fed up with antifa co-opting the BLM movement for no productive purpose, and BLM organizes marches and/or comes out against antifa and these rioters. At that point, the police would have the public backing to crack down hard, and/or supporters would largely diminish.

I live in a Seattle suburb, i have said countless times i do not support the riots or rioters, and yes you may as well be his adopted son with the way you have lately adopted his cognitive dissonance and practice of blatantly stating falsehoods as facts.

You’ve been sympathizing with BLM and the movement to defund the police all along, there’s nothing false about my comment. With less police and angry mobs demanding people give up their homes, is there any possibility for a positive outcome?

Yep, i absolutely empathize with the blm movement, im not a big fan of BLM though (this is something ive said numerous times and discussed and you have apparently ignored). And ive never voiced support for or against defunding police, only ever discussed what that actually might look like so i get a better understanding of pros/cons and so people like you would understand that it doesnt mean abolishing police… which you still seem to (so mission failed on my part).

As for the mobs some folks here are so scared of… They are not large, and they do not negatively affect normal life in seattle for 99.99% of residents, workers, and visitors. And that hasnt changed in the months since this all started… FFS it still hasnt spread out of the Cap Hill neighborhood! Let alone to the suburbs and neighboring cities which are very difference demographically, economically and politically.

That’s a battle for another day. Right now they find each other useful as they have much in common.

Yet, they managed to get Seattle to cut its police budget which resulted in the loss of many officers, many of whom were minorities, and the black, female police chief.

I think that battle may arrive sooner than you think. Its always been kind of an uneasy alliance i think, and with the retirement of Chief Best here in Seattle (due to the defund pressure) i have heard a number of black activists, and BLM organizers on the local NPR affiliate not speaking too highly of the rioters and questioning the priorities of what the movement has become, at least locally.

Because it’s an irrelevant distinction. A Marxist movement led by a Marxist organization.

We already discussed this, I am well aware that defund does not mean abolish. This is a poor excuse for a strawman argument. What it might look like is that same angry mob dragging people out of their houses and not enough police available to do anything about it. They had a hard enough time doing anything about the riots and CHAZ before their funding was cut, I wouldn’t expect much from them now.

How large does the mob at your door demanding you give up your house have to be before it’s a concern?

That budget cut was largely due to a shortfall in the Citys budget caused by Covid, FYI. There will be more cuts this fall.

That, IMO, was not an effect of the riots. That was an already far left CC wanting to be on the forefront of progressivism.

It’s not concerning that it took this long for them to question it?
