George Floyd Riots

Well, I’m not about it being forced. I think a likely outcome would be what happened in China. I’m for bc being easy as can be too get. For the record, my position on abortion is that it should not be done after the baby could survive on its own. This is usually third trimester. That is only from a legal stand point. It is far better if people use birth control.

Will anyone actually want to go back to an office environment full time? those that have telecommuted have made it work pretty damn well… nearly across the board. I think crime rate will be a factor, just a smaller factor than it sounds like you believe it to be.

Uptown Minneapolis was a beautiful area that just looks like its in shambles now that rioters have run through it.

Yes, I find the experts argument is almost always better. Not always though. I feel hearing people out is a good policy. However, I am skeptical that many people are intelligent enough for this to work. Then we end up back were you started about not listening to Jenny.

Whether or not they want to is one thing, but some offices will reopen eventually. The federal government here has plans to bring people back at least part time and eventually full time at some point. It’s going to vary depending on the employer, some things need to be done on paper (like legal documents) but other companies are permanently switching to telecommuting, likely because it will save them a lot of money with not having to provide offices.

You’re just thinking about offices, but many other sort of workplaces will be affected too. How much of a factor crime is will depend on how much and how serious the crime is.

I bet their will be a flight from major cities in the next few years, because all of the reasons you would want to live there are gone or majorly changed (bars, restaurants, concerts, cultural events, proximity to work, etc). As people move away, prices drop and crime will increase even more than current.

IMO, defunding police is small potatoes compared to the short, medium and long term effects of covid when looking at economic repercussions.

If they did, they would be masked. I think I’m doing scared correctly now.

It all depends on how much they are defunded, what is done with the extra money, and how much crime goes up as a result.

They only matter if they are protesting against racism.

It will go back to the taxpayers of course.

It turns out the woman actually had a written medical exemption from wearing the mask, on her. Apparently the police didn’t read it until after they arrested her for resisting arrest.
She hasn’t even been charged with a not wearing mask offence. She was charged for resisting arrest /assault police officer.

I can smell a lawsuit coming.

Probably easier to get than a handicap parking permit.

Quite likely.
Nevertheless it should have been a get out of gaol(that’s how well spell jail down here) free card. Its unclear yet if she mentioned the exemption before things turned physical, or whether the police ignored her claim and didn’t bother to check.

I think this has at least an even chance of coming true. It will depend largely on the effectiveness of vaccine/treatment development.

But one thing is going to be true regardless: The work environment will have substantially changed with remote work becoming a very large chunk of employment. That alone will reshape numerous areas.

Looks like Portland PD has been let off the chain a bit.

They’re trying to regroup on the Federal Courthouse. However, Portland is there to oppose them.

Maybe instead of scouring the nation for every white harms black (despite if racial hostility was even involved) story, buttressing the false narrative out there that it’s a common occurrence, how about helping to put things back into perspective so mass violence and vandalism doesn’t jump off at the drop of a rumor on social media? Just a thought.

They were just trying to get some reparations.

Perspective is a white supremacist construction.

However the local DA has decided not to prosecute these gentle people:

PORTLAND, Ore. — People arrested in Portland since late May on non-violent misdemeanor charges during the protests that have racked Oregon’s largest city for more than two months won’t be prosecuted.

The new policy announced Tuesday recognizes the outrage and frustration over a history of racial injustice that has led to the city’s often violent protests and the practical realities of the court system, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt said. It is running more than two months behind in processing cases because of COVID-19,

Not prosecuting rioters is now the correct thing to do because they were angry and frustrated over a history of racial injustice. I am angry and frustrated that my business was destroyed by rioters, so, can I just shoot them next time and not be prosecuted?

As a result, at least several hundred people arrested over the past few months will not face criminal prosecution, according to statistics provided by Schmidt’s office. The same no prosecution policy applies to those arrested on similar charges in future demonstrations, he said.

Then why arrest them? Talk about giving future rioters a get out jail free card. Brilliant.

“The protesters are angry … and deeply frustrated with what they perceive to be structural inequities in our basic social fabric. And this frustration can escalate to levels that violate the law,” Schmidt said.

so, that is an excuse? I am angry and deeply frustrated that I have paid city taxes for years and I am going to stop. Is that ok, now? going to seize my business for not paying taxes? I don’t think you will let that slide.

He added: “This policy acknowledges that centuries of disparate treatment of our black and brown communities have left deep wounds and that the healing process will not be easy or quick.”

Great policy you got if you are black or brown, get angry, riot and never get charged.

Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell, informed of the impending policy change last week, said the decision does not change Oregon law and still holds accountable people who commit violent acts or intentionally damage property.

What do you think happens in a riot? people selling food and planting flowers?

*“Committing a crime is different from demonstrating,” Lovell said in a statement. *he arrests we make often come after hours of damage to private property, disruption of public transit and traffic on public streets, thefts from small businesses, arson, burglary, attacks on members of the community, and attacks against police officers.”

Tell that to your DA, he seems confused. He only wants to see “non-violent misdemeanor” arrests, so, he can free those angry and frustrated people. Maybe someone should remind him that misdemeanor charges usually carry a sentence up to 12 months. I think he is confusing state charges with city ordinances.

A brilliant, brilliant

Really feel for their Police force. Geeze.

They’re all freaking snowflakes. That NEVER flew in my house growing up. Up until now, it didn’t fly in the law either. Frustrated? Great, your own actions still have consequences.

I would feel differently if some people minding their own business go overwhelmed by a roving mob and then corralled along with the mob…but that’s not happening anywhere, and it won’t be.
