What if your person starts hitting on you, and you’re single and available? What if half of the people that hit on you appeared like this individual? Would you have a pattern of turning down individuals like those in your hypothesis? Why?
My friend, the exceptions don’t make the rule. You aren’t seriously going to tell me you don’t see male and female because of an individual with an adam’s apple wearing a dress.
Some people are born blind. The function of eyes is to provide us with sight.
Sloth’s pivoting is hilarious. Not worth talking to someone who can’t answer a very clear, direct question.
As to this:
I’m not going to be an asshole to a transgender individual just because they beat someone close to me in an athletic competition. I would not go with the 3rd option for sure. I think I would say something along the lines of ‘you did your best, let’s get stronger and get ready for the next meet’. At no point would I refer to the other competitor as anything but female.
My girlfriend is a strongman competitor. Many other female competitors use steroids, she does not. She is at a similar disadvantage to the one you’re describing here. That’s the nature of the iron game, and it’s a particularly tricky issue for women, considering what steroids do to them.
I’m not convinced that a female running a bunch of gear has less strength potential than a male-to-female transgender individual. So as far as strength sports go, I do not necessarily see any real issue here, as I happen to like steroids in strength sports.
the whole point of Eye’s scenario was that the situation is totally clear.
I’ll try to make it more clear. Person is wearing a dress, high heels, nail polish, has long hair, carries a purse. Person has a visible 5 o clock shadow, a relatively deep voice that you happened to have heard, manly facial features, and… ok you know what? This is now my hypothetical. You over hear the person say ‘I was born with a penis, but I identify as a woman now and have for 15 years’… Lucky you!! you overheard a very pertinent conversation!
Now, this person drops the wallet. What pronoun do you use?
Joking aside, are we arguing whether we should be polite to people? If so, I think most people will choose to be polite or avoid the situation even if they chest beat online .
Should someone identifying as female always be treated as female regardless of their underlying sex? That’s a far hairier and trickier question and we are all going to draw the line at different places.
those same terms are ones that eyedentist implied. perhaps he can chime in if he disagrees. nothing of substance is different, because the substance is that you recognize by sensory perception that this person was born as a male, and now identifies as a female.
