Geek S**T

Why I love my PS3

-USB ports that allow the easy use of jump drives so that anything from music to movies in MP3/MP4 format can be watched or listened to using your entertainment system. It actually works easier than if my iPod were hooked up.

-No noise when running

-Blue Ray along with functioning as a dvd player

-up to 7 controllers can be used on the system and all are wireless

-the ability to surf the internet using your tv…all you need is a keyboard with a usb port…PS3 has already released their own wireless model.

I am not sure how the X-Box does as far as ease of use so I am not taking shots at the X-Box. I just don’t think the PS3 is getting enough praise. This is a very well built piece of machinery that acts like another computer for the most part.

Prof X,

Do you know how the PS3 surfs the net on your TV? I mean, how is the connection managed? Is it through a DSL or Cable modem that you need to have or hook up? Kinda curious.

It works just like the PSP does, using wireless networks (in fact, at this point I am convinced that they used the PSP as a test because the menu controls on the PS3 match it exactly). If you don’t have wireless in your house, then yeah, the cable would do it.

My PSP can work anywhere there is free wireless internet. It just makes surfing a bitch because there is no keyboard.

Damn thats just nuts, from what I read they underestimated the potential of the PS3, claiming its not even using its full power capacity. I am sure with time the people at Sony will get it up to full speed and clearly stand above the rest.

In my opinion, this is where all technology is headed, one central hub for all gaming, web surfing and entertainment. If you have surround sound at your house, this is your new stereo, video game system, dvd player and high def experience.

I don’t see how people aren’t giving this more credit.

I know Sony came out with a Vaio that has a monitor that is an LCD HDTV also. It can be wall mounted and has a built in Blu Ray player. I agree that technology is going to make a single piece capable of all the desires a tech-geek like myself would like.

It has a wireless keyboard so you can be on the couch or bed to navigate through whatever you want. And once you are done, you can turn it to TV mode and watch television. Take a look, this is the low end version…

That looks cool. The only thing is for that price, I could get a flat screen 42" plasma.

It’s much cheaper to just buy a TV-tuner or video card capable of exporting to the TV (usually via S-Video) for your current computer than to buy a mediocre PC/TV combo

What kind of TV do you have? Because I’ve perused through Best Buy and other electronics stores and I’ve seen Blu-Ray in action. Honestly I don’t see enough of an improvement over DVD to justify buying a standalone player. And the movie/tv show catalog still hasn’t caught up either.

I want to get a PS3 but the fact remains that I buy consoles strictly for games. And at the moment the only game that is making me want to buy is MGS4. But I don’t want to plump down $400 bucks just to play one game, especially since I can go get an Arcade for $199 after the price drop and just get a used 20gig or use my own, even if my console RRODs (knocks on wood).

What does the PS have on its online network? Like arcade games, demos, themes, etc? One thing that is pissing me off with MS (which I have very few complaints from) is all the nickel-and-diming.

I should be getting discounts or something if I’m paying $50 a year for a service, which is only charging me for online play, peer-to-peer at that, least they could do is setup some dedicated servers.

And as far as media centers go I would like to upgrade, but the 360 handles pretty much all my media off of usb, ext. hard drive, network, etc. And even if it didn’t nothing touches a modded Xbox1 as far as media centers go.

Sell me on the PS3 Prof X…

or Apocalypse will destroy you…

Totally agreed. Large gameplay suffers from poor hosts and a lot of DLC should be offered for free (some devs even want it to be free, but MS jacks up the price)

Don’t know if I missed this but Combat Arms (multilayer game) has been out for a couple of months and is free for PC. It’s similar to CS but some like it better. The difference is the equipment you can purchase from playing and if you are good, you can purchase better equipment to suit your playing style. Absolutely no lag which to me is pretty rare and it can run on my 2yr old laptop (the smaller version of the 2) which only has an integrated graphics card. If you have a decent computer, the game is somewhat like Call of Duty 4.

Overall it is fun.

My in game name is BIG_D so if you make an account post it here.

Bule-ray isnt the reason you cant tell much differance, its the TV. Blue-Ray can run past 1080p thats why I have bought an HD TV yet b/c the resolutin is going to go up again sooner or later. Also it holds something like 3x as much data as reg HDDVD.

As far as the PS3 online goes I have been very happy I get no lag at all, and if I do it is very little. You can get some classic games like SF ALPHA, MK 2, Bionic commando and a lot of others plus movies. Just about every game I have looked for a demo for I have found one. they do need to add some Theams but thats not really a big deal. And if Im stuck at a part in a game or just want to look something up I can just pull up the net browser look it up and boom I back playing again.

I have had my PS3 for about 2 or 3 weeks now and my friends come over all the time now just to play Soul Caliber, Tiger Woods or drool over MGS4. And they all have a 360. Plus I can play it for 30hrs stright and dont have to worry about it quitting on me.

So that’s where you’ve been lately. Make sure you allow your eyes to adjust to outside light again. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey I finally finished Invincible.

I agree with all of this. If you can’t notice a difference between regular dvd’s and Blue Ray, blame the tv, not the Blue Ray player. I have a 1080 lcd and you can tell the difference.

The system doesn’t seem to overheat either because I have left it on all day and not had any problems. Even the PS2 starts making a little noise after it has been on for a long time.

Its funny that you say that. MGS4 has to Load between acts and it gives disclamers about smoking and stuff and depending on how long you have been playing its like…

You have been playing for 9 hrs. Dont you think it time for a break?

I thought it was funny.

I’m still very happy with the 360, it too is a great piece of kit. Both consoles are excellent in their own ways, I think the PS3 is just built as a better machine - it’s got more of a slick look to it, doesn’t crash and runs quietly.

Both the old and new XBOX’s where released with problems (RROD, etc), although mine (even when left on for over 24hours) has yet to give me any. It’s the kind of crap I expect from M$ anyway.

Assassin’s Creed.

I just started playing this, but the story, historical facts and the killing put this on a different level. Has anyone else played this?

I’ve got it sitting under my TV, but strangely haven’t done more than the beginning tutorial. It looks good but I’m too sucked in with Rainbow 6: Vegas 2, playing online.

What do you think of it?

The attention to detail is ridiculous. They have the environment down to small bugs flying around randomly and the occasional dandelion floating by. The AI here is better than I’ve seen for a game like this. You bump into people and they respond realistically (not like San Andreas).

It is very open and since it involves free roaming, this game does not move quickly. The goal is to put you in that time period (during the Crusades) and let you feel out the environment. If you run too much, you alert the guards.

I like it so far.

Ok, wow - I’ve just been playing for the past 10 minutes and I am impressed so far. The graphics are ridiculous.

It’s going to be a late night.
