Analog, you get yourself a DS yet?

I honestly haven’t used mine much lately, now that my 360 is back. The game releases this year haven’t been that great, although they are starting to release some good ones now that the holidays are approaching.

Just checked the mail. Only the USPS can manage to take 5 days to send something 100 miles. Amazon shipped it from St. Paul MN(which is 98.8 miles away from my door according to Google Maps) on Tuesday and it still isn’t here. I could have walked there, got it, and walked back by now.

Oh well, I saved a shit load, and DS-10 is only available from like 3 retailers. No Best Buy, Gamestop, WalMart, etc. Amazon, EB Games, and New Egg were the only places I could find it.

Ok…what is DS-10? Is that the new model DS that was released?

No, DS-10 is a piece of software Korg wrote for the DS which basically turns it into a pocket synth. It’s actually pretty impressive what they have done. It’s actually more complete than their own pocket synths that cost twice as much as a DS and the DS-10 software.

Saints Row 2 = Massive San Andreas knock off

Amazingly, that has caught my attention for a couple of hours so maybe that’s not a bad thing.

So it’s actually good, then? I’ve never played the first one… I was thinking about picking up the original for cheap after I finish all these games, and then maybe playing the new one some months down the line after it’s dropped in price.

It’s like San Andreas part Deux.

I only picked it up because I was returning another game and I figured, “hmmm, guns, cars and an American main character with PS3 graphics. That might be nice”.

I never played the first one but this one satisfies that, “I wonder what GTA-SA would look like on the PS3” mentality.[/quote]

The first one was actually really good and ended in a cliff hanger. It is a GTA:SA clone but a little more color full.

DEADSPACE - DOWNFALL

It’s supposed to be a prequel to the game. It’s out on dvd now.

The animation is decent. I haven’t finished watching it yet though.

Edit - this is the most graphic shit I’ve seen in animated form. It’s to the point of being gratuitous and unnecessary.

X,

You ever watch Akira? Check it out.

Anime…I think it was done in 1988. Good flick.

I’ve seen it. I still think this rates up there. I haven’t finished watching yet but there have to be at least 50 decapitations and one sawing a woman in half so far.

Guess you don’t watch much Japanimation. Fist of the North Star had like a 300 person body count.

…but I have seen that. It was almost comical though with the sheer amount of blood.

What I am saying is that this is trying to hit that level with a little more realism.

They speak too fast to take them seriously in classic Japanimation.

edit
After watching it, this is not more bloody than Fist of the north star. I took it more seriously than that though.

I hope that is understood.

You guys remember the cartoon, Ronin Warriors? That was badass.

I need a good sci-fi show, preferably animated and not necessarily anime.

I’m up for suggestions.

It may not be animated, but watch Firefly. Awesome show.

Wasn’t Serenity the movie based on that show? Great film.

I have not seen Firefly but heard great things about it.

Yeah, Serenity was kind of a sequel to the show.

I finished Dead Space(the game) yesterday…this is a must buy. Definitely will get your heart rate going…its what Resident Evil used to be.

Yeah, I just started playing it and it’s terrifying so far.

The background sounds are freaky as hell…especially with a surround sound setup.

If you liked Serenity, then definately pick up the Firefly box set.

Otherwise, checkout these:

Afro Samurai - A blend of cyborgs, androids, and feudal Japan

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within - older, but classic Sci-Fi in my opinion.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children - Not big on story, but real pretty to watch.

Appleseed (2004) - Its Appleseed. Hot Women, androids, big explosions.

Appleseed Ex Machina - Its more Appleseed. Hot Women, androids, big explosions.

Vexille - Its like Appleseed. Hot Women, androids, big explosions.

Renaissance - This is unique. Its a PURE black & white, CGI, cyberpunk, detective film. Protaganist is named Karas, which brings me to…

Karas - this was originally an OVA, but its currently sold as two DVDs (The Prophecy & The Revelation) or one box set. Some of the sickest animation to date. Modern Japan, regular demons, demon robots, and a city protector.

Highlander: The Search for Vengeance - Its a Highlander anime! Its really like Highlander meets Fist of the North Star. Definately worth watching.

Afro Samurai is excellent. Definite must-own.

Cowboy Bebop - The perfect sci-fi series. The story about the cat that lived a million times is worth the cost.

I’ve seen people buying this at Best Buy, but don’t want to watch it until I finish the game intself.

The game is actually quite gory itself, but I guess I never really notice because I’m a gore-hound.

While I do agree and enjoy the game a lot, was I the only person who felt like the scariness got a bit formulaic? Don’t get me wrong, there were still a lot of parts that freaked me the fuck out, but it feels like I’ve started to get use to a lot of the misdirection they use with sounds and visuals and stuff.
