X-Men first Class. I really feel that overall they got this movie right. Yeah, Beast looked funky…and yeah, flying with one hand was a crime against physics…but I run out of criticism after that.
I feel like it would have been much better had some of the mutants been a little less lame with respect to their powers.
I mean, they have one kid who basically attacks with an energy hoola hoop…incredibly femmie. They kill off the guy with one of the most interesting powers, the ability to adapt to his environment in order to survive.
Then you have a red version of nightcrawler, ms diamond lady, mr hurricane hands etc. That’s just off the top of my head. I was expecting it to be better than it turned out to be…but things like the above made me furrow my brow a bit and annoyed me.
Wow, you’ve never read a X-Men comic or watched the 90’s cartoon? That red version of Nightcrawler is Azazel, Nightcrawler’s father. Sounds like you expected the movie to cater to the casual Marvel movie crowd.
I have and wasn’t aware that’s who it was, although I speculated and that does make sense. I suppose I just expected the movie to be a little less “hokie” and more “adult” for lack of better words based off of the trailers.
Just my opinion, my appologies. Continue on die hards.

No need to apologize. I think the fact that they had to balls to stick to a lot of canon (even if it is “hokie”) makes the movie so good. Comic fans get to see a somewhat faithful movie translation of how the X-men came to be and the general population gets to see something they probably never seen before. Which in turn might lead them to asking questions (or posting on a forum in your case) about “Ms.Diamond”. Eventually they might end up checking out more of the X-Men universe, they become fans, more good X-Men movies are made, and we all forget the third X-Men catastrophe was ever released.

I really think most of the “hokiness” you saw…was the part staying true to the comics. It is a little like going to see Captain America and asking why a guy with a face that looks like a skull is in the movie.
…And if they do a sequel to First Class it may be set in the 70s. We might get to see a formal creation of the Brotherhood of (Evil) Mutants. I think they should aim for 1969. They could use both the Moon landing and Woodstock in the film. Woodstock would be an awesome place introduce mutants like Ink, Dazzler, and a young hippy named Jubilation Lee.

Just a heads up…if y’all aren’t watching Thundercats, you are missing out.
They are really trying to advance the story this time.
Where is this available?
I’ve been buying the episodes off the Playstation network. I would say it is worth it. This is about as well as they could have done to bring this series back to life…and they are doing it in a way that will keep the people who grew up with it interested.
From the way they are going with the story, the potential here is on the level of Star Wars if they ever made a movie of it.

I’m still trying to figure out if its a new story all together a dif generation of thundercats. Also X just likes it becuase he looks like the “PANTHRO” in the new series
LOL. It is a completely different take on the same story with some changes to the character…like Snarf doesn’t talk in this. He is like a pet to them.
And yeah, I like Panthro. LOL
Spoiler:
By episode 6 you learn that this was once a civilization of technologically advanced species of animals who had ships and weapons far beyond anything we have now. Mum-Ra was the OverLord at that time searching space for the lost War Stone (the Eye of Thundera). He finds it, is about to become all powerful when Lion-O’s ancestor turns agains Mum-Ra (after helping him find it) and steals the Eye and makes a sword of the same material as Mum-ra’s “Sword of Plundar” (I think I got that name right). The ship crashes on Third Earth after a battle with Mum-ra where Mum-Ra seals himself in a space pod to preserve himself for centuries fearing the crash.
fast Forward a few dozen centuries and the cats have forgotten about all technology and it has become a “myth”. Mum-ra is awakened and now they learn everything they thought was fantasy is real.
The only real issue I had with X-Men: First Class was that they insisted on making it a prequel. They should have cut all ties with the previous movies and given Matthew Vaughan complete freedom to do what he wanted to.
That cameo points to a fear of alienating the non-geek contingent…and seems like product placement for the ‘other’ movie…
Following dubious continuity from the previous X-movies is going to make things difficult…It’s like going back to do a direct prequel to Tim Burton’s Batman after Batman & Robin.
Oh, and Darwin was wasted. Other than that, great movie.
Out of all the games coming out this fall, which one (if you had to pick only one) would you pre-order and why?
The 3 games I really want, and will get at some point, are: Arkham City, UC3, and BF3.
I’m leaning toward pre-ordering Arkham City, although my usual rule is never pay more than $40 for a game, and the best pre-order deal I’ve seen on it is $48. I got a hold of the Arkham City comics (reading them on my HP Touchpad = awesome) and while I know they were only put out to hype up the game, they still made me want to game even more.
I’m sure I’ll get MW3 at some point, but I am kinda burnt out on COD right now. I’ll probably also get Rage and RE:Operation Racoon City at some point in time, but probably not right away since I have a huge back log of games I own and still haven’t played.

Darwin is where my real complaint lies as well. You have a guy who can adapt to ANY environment…so the how hell do you blow him up? He could breath in space, right?
If anything, I could see him turning to metal or stone after the blast and them putting him in storage until he returns to normal…but to blow up???
I am tired of the black dude having to die in every movie like this. If it’s 4 while girls and a black dude in a scary house, you don’t even need to flip a coin to see whose head will be rolling down the stairs in 10min.
