Geek S**T The SIXTH

meh. all fps like modern warfare are getting to repetitive.

I’m going with Dead Island.

Gosh I feel old 20yrs X-Men 1 came out I was a sophmore in High School going to Superhero Universe every Wednesday and Friday after football practice and would buy my comic books. I remember distinctly the two guys that worked there they actually saved me a copy of Superman 75 even though they could have easily charged more to someone else

Superman Returns simply was NOT “Superman”. None of what Superman really is was in that movie. Clark Kent isn’t Superman’s alter ego. It is the other way around. This is where Smallville got it right. Clark is just some guy who wishes he could live the rest of his life on a farm pooning Lois…he just happens to be the most powerful being on the planet.
I agree with the Clark Kent/Superman egos, but Smallville didn’t do Clark/Suberboy justice. Every publication of Superman, except for Smallville, shows Clark to be the everyday small town boy looking for adventure in the big city. Clark Kent didn’t go to college or bust his ass to get a job as a reporter just to be a farmer in Kansas. Clark Kent has proven to do just fine without his Kryptonian powers, but I’ve never seen him saddened by their return. Clark may be the small town good ol’ boy who loves his mom and the family farm. He also loves his Fortress of Solitude (he’s built at least 6 of them over the decades), the flying, the ridiculously ingenious science experiments he conducts, and everything else that comes along with his Kryptonian heritage.

I’m not crazy about the presentation of Superman in Superman Returns, and really hate that particular version of the Fortress of Solitude. The best representations of Superman are the Fleischer cartoons from the 40s, and Bruce Timm’s animated series Superman: TAS and Justice League/JLU.

Watching StakeLand (the vampire post apocalyptic movie)

Holy crap this movie is depressing. This movie is badly in need of at least one or two moments of levity.
Is it worth watching? I scanned past it a couple of times with interest but never made the purchase…
Yes it is a little dark and dreary, not as bad as the Road.

My wife was pissed at the ending.

I enjoyed but I enjoyed the Road also.
I didn’t much care for the Road. No complaints about the acting, story or directing, but the movie overall was just boring. I prefer my post-apocalyptic films more along the lines of Mad Max, Water World, or Book of Eli.

Damn no input on this yet?

Bought it last night played for three hours straight, got up from my chair and back was wet from sweating.

Some how they captured the edge and tense feeling I got from 1st Dead Space and old school Resident Evil 2.

We had a little midnight release for Dead Island. Overall I like it. The island resort is absolutely beautiful. I’ve often wandered off path just to find a few scenic views, and to kill a few more of the undead. Much like Fallout 3, I’ve spent more time just wandering around rather than running missions. I’m not a big fan of 1st person melee combat, but this game makes it work. The targeting reticule has a little movement that snaps to different body parts allowing for easy delimbification. I’ve been playing as the little ninja chick blade expert Somehow I didn’t even see the blunt objects bruiser during my first character selection. Cutting the arms off the mini-bosses, thus leaving them with only a hilarious headbutt/biting, is thoroughly entertaining. Some folks complain about how fast the weapons degrade, but I like it. You can store 12 weapons in the inventory and new weapons are never far away. If worst come to worst you still have your fist, and you can always run away.

I only have a couple complaints. One, it took forever to find a control layout that I liked. I was playing Deus Ex before picking up Dead Island so that may have something to do with it. Second, this game should have pushed back the release date for another couple months. I’ve come across some really annoying bugs and glitches, one of which required exiting and reloading the game. Three, matching up with other players takes forever if it even works.

Preach it, bro! To that list, I’d add the appearances of the Earth II Superman, and perhaps even the Kingdom Come version. I know Snyder’s a big comic book fan, and likes to get things true to the source material, so when I saw the archaic “S” on the movie costume I grinned from ear to ear. I have high hopes for this movie.

I personally didn’t see much in Kingdom Come Superman. I hated that one…one of the few DC recent releases that was bad to me.

I can agree that Clark can handle himself without his powers. Justice League did a whole two episodes where Supes lost his powers but still came out on top. I am just stating that the mind of Superman isn’t like Batman.

Batman sees Bruce Wayne as his alter ego. He has even said that in his own mind, his true self is Batman, not the other way around.

Clark Kent would probably give anything to live out his life as a regular human being. He just knows he can’t.

hopefully patches will be released soon to fix those glitches.

X-Men first Class. I really feel that overall they got this movie right. Yeah, Beast looked funky…and yeah, flying with one hand was a crime against physics…but I run out of criticism after that.

The actor who played Uncle Ben in the Spider-Man films has passed away

I feel like it would have been much better had some of the mutants been a little less lame with respect to their powers.

I mean, they have one kid who basically attacks with an energy hoola hoop…incredibly femmie. They kill off the guy with one of the most interesting powers, the ability to adapt to his environment in order to survive.

Then you have a red version of nightcrawler, ms diamond lady, mr hurricane hands etc. That’s just off the top of my head. I was expecting it to be better than it turned out to be…but things like the above made me furrow my brow a bit and annoyed me.

X-Men: First Class is the only good X-Men film that has been made, and they did an outstanding job with it. I hope the Mystique makeup video is part of the bonus features. It’s basically 10 minutes of watching Jennifer Lawrence standing around naked.

Banshee flies by screaming. Aerodynamics has no application here. It’s purely the thrust to weight ratio that keeps him in the air. He could be towing a baby elephant and still fly as long as his vocal cords don’t give out. The wingsuit just gives him some additional glide time.

Oh, I also played the demo of Hard Reset this morning (believe it’s only on PC). It looked pretty but was just a bit too shallow with regard to gameplay and story for my taste. It’s a standard run and gun, similar to Doom.

Who else has BF3 preordered and is going to be playing it on Origin? I would like to add some people to my friend list.

Has anyone else downloaded Origin only to find YOU CAN’T CHANGE YOUR MASTER NAME? A huge flaw when compared to Steam (where you can change your nick on the fly).

I believe the first and second x-men were the best and in that order and then first class, then wolverine (incredible beginning and got weaker and weaker toward the end) and then the third x-men. Thank you also for bringing up Banshee flying by screaming…another part of the movie I rolled my eyes at. Not trying to rain on the love parade, just my opinion on the series as a whole.

What I liked about it was that in an era where the ‘milquetoast’ Superman was in vogue with DC, they reverted back to the Golden Age version: a man with power who knows the difference between right and wrong, and is strong-willed enough to draw a line in the sand because of it. I thought that as a Ragnarok for DC, it was suitable. It brought an end to things, and did so with a high price, but managed to pull it off without violating what I consider to be a central trope of the genre: there must be hope, and the heroes must triumph.

To that end, when Marvel goes ‘dark’, I find it’s more of an exercise of darkness for the sake of darkness. Things are grim because it’s edgy or cool. With Kingdom Come, it felt like it had a purpose and theme.

Back after the Crisis DC reboot back in the 80’s, there was a “World’s Finest” mini-series illustrated by Steve Rude that was meant to be a throwback to the old Silver Age stuff while dealing with Superman and Batman in their new, somewhat adversarial relationship. As a peace offering at Christmas, Superman hands Batman a gift: a VHS tape of Tyrone Power’s “Mask of Zorro”.

The contrast in how the characters perceive themselves made that simple little gesture a strong moment in the story.

I loved that story as well as the first few Batman Superman one’s, where Batman and Superman would narrate and interpet each other’s reactions and thoughts. Also there was a great back up story in either an 80 pager or an annual where Bruce is starting off on his journey to become Batman and Alfred stops in Smallville and CLark is playing baseball, it’s nice because each tells their story form their viewpoint with Batman wanting to join in if asked and Clark being too shy to go up to the young boy in the limo

X-Men: First Class is the only good X-Men film everything else sucked donkey dong. If I wanted to watch donkey sex I would just head south to Mexico.

Banshee’s flight fly by scream power is straight from the comic books. I’m sorry your entire X-Men knowledge is based on four shitty movies and one good one. For the 20th anniversary X-Men #1 is getting a reprint, you should check it out.

Wow, you’ve never read a X-Men comic or watched the 90’s cartoon? That red version of Nightcrawler is Azazel, Nightcrawler’s father. Sounds like you expected the movie to cater to the casual Marvel movie crowd.

That pretty much explains why I liked Kingdom Come, that and the Specter Special being a plate spinach and cottage cheese. I enjoyed Alex Ross’ “Justice” mini-series as well. I should go back and re-read both of those.

Relax. Just because a movie is accurate as to it pertaining to the comics doesn’t ensure that it won’t be stupid.
