The only real issue I had with X-Men: First Class was that they insisted on making it a prequel. They should have cut all ties with the previous movies and given Matthew Vaughan complete freedom to do what he wanted to.
That cameo points to a fear of alienating the non-geek contingent…and seems like protect placement for the ‘other’ movie…
Following dubious continuity from the previous X-movies is going to make things difficult…It’s like going back to do a direct prequel to Tim Burton’s Batman after Batman & Robin.
Oh, and Darwin was wasted. Other than that, great movie.

Darwin is where my real complaint lies as well. You have a guy who can adapt to ANY environment…so the how hell do you blow him up? He could breath in space, right?
If anything, I could see him turning to metal or stone after the blast and them putting him in storage until he returns to normal…but to blow up???
I am tired of the black dude having to die in every movie like this. If it’s 4 while girls and a black dude in a scary house, you don’t even need to flip a coin to see whose head will be rolling down the stairs in 10min.[/quote]
After I left the movie, I did consider the possibility that Darwin’s ‘death’ was just him adapting to Shaw’s energy blast - like he adapted to the energy by becoming it, and could make a return.
Then I realized I was giving Fox far too much credit, and that if they hadn’t killed him outright they would’ve hinted at it. So yeah, Darwin in this = black redshirt.
