That’s another game I’ve got on my Christmas list.

I played the original one on my PC back then. I can’t wait to see what it looks and feels like on the Xbox. What else differs from the original apart from the graphics?
Game play is the same as the classic version. Controls are nice and tight. Heroic is the difficulty level I love to play on. Just the right level of challenge, but the Master Chief still feels like a bad ass. The Combat pistol kicks so much ass it ain’t even funny. The combat pistol / plasma pistol combo will kill 95% of all Covenant assholes. Combat pistol / Shotgun combo will take care of the Flood.

There is a on/off switch for the graphics that you can access at any time. You can switch between the new HD update and the classic graphics. I think they expanded the classic graphics to 1080 because even the classic graphics looks way better than my old Halo: CE disk. The HD update is gorgeous. Not Halo: Reach level, obviously, but very very nice.

If you play in the new HD mode then there are skulls and terminals that you can seek out much like in Halo 3. Just be sure to start the level in the HD mode to find them, and of course the skulls can be turned on/off to modify the game play. Some of the old skulls are back for another round like Iron, Famine, Black Eye, and Grunt Birthday Party. Plus there are some new ones:
Recession - every shot the player fires would deplete two rounds instead of one
Bandanna - players will have unlimited ammo and grenades
Malfunction - one random part of the Heads-up display will disappear after every respawn
I bought my copy from Best Buy just after Thanksgiving, and it had the pre-order bonus codes inside. I got the Grunt Funeral skull, so every Unggoy’s methane tank will explode similar to a plasma grenade when killed. That’s got to be one of my favorites, right up there with Grunt Birthday Party.

With the game comes some new Halo: Reach maps that can be played with either game disc. There is a new Firefight map too that looks pretty good. It’s a challenging map because the Covenant have 4 ways to assault the high ground. One of which is a man cannon. Much hilarity ensues shooting Elites out of the air, like clay pigeons, with a rocket launcher.

If you like achievement collecting the 10th Anni comes with 44 new achievements. About half are the usual “complete level X” and “complete game on XYZ difficulty”. The other half are “Complete Level X on Legendary in 30 minutes or less”, or “Complete Level Y on Legendary with out picking up a health pack.” Fun stuff.

I replay my favorite games a lot. I can’t count the number of times I’ve replayed all 6 games in the Halo franchise, so I think Halo: 10th Anni is a great purchase. Plus the achievements offer more incentive to come back replay the game. If you enjoyed Halo: CE, then I highly recommend the 10th Anniversary edition.

Can someone please make a good shooter again? Preferably one that offers more for my money than “3 hour campaign with no replay value, no skirmish mode, no nothing… Oh, but you can get achievements!”.
With weapons that don’t suck? That actually make use of what we can do with modern day graphics/physics engines?

Have you played Cysis 2? That game was pretty good. I’m playing Halo: Combat Evolved 10th Anniversary. Classic Halo game play with a new coat of paint and spit shined. It’s all purty now.

If you’re cool with 3rd person shooters, try playing Vanquish. It’s got a shit story, but game play is phenomenal.
Have you checked out the first Crysis now that its out on consoles? If not and you liked the first one, seriously check it out. In my opinion it was a much more fun game!
I’ve got it downloaded, but just haven’t played it yet.

Wow.

Well thank you for this fantastic review.

I’ll know what to look out once I get the game.

Hmm…

Regardless of platforms: Doom 1 & 3, Half- Life series; Deus Ex series; Quake 4; Metal Gear Solid; Splinter Cell; Unreal Tournament series; Halo 1, Killzone, Fear 1; Call Of Duty 2& 4; Wolfenstein; Ratchet and Clank (ehehe); Rayman; Max Payne 1; Prince of Persia 1 and 2; Assassin Creed 1 and 2; Uncharted 2 and 3; Gears of war series (yeah baby!!) Grand Theft Auto 4; Fallout, Resident Evil series …

Yawn… I can go on and on…

BDSM and video games are my favourite guilty pleasures. Thank god I workout.
Ah, right, I completely forgot about the recent Deus Ex… That was pretty good too, though it didn’t escape consolification of it’s graphics style and parts of the gameplay…
Aw dang it. You played it on the PC I guess? Some of my friends who opted for the PC platform were not really impressed with the gameplay.

Great game controls like the last one, story line is awesome in my opinion. Ending was not a big boss type fight, but still kind of unique.

I had some issues with the notorious meter or whatever its called, in the past games you had the posters you could find and would lower it. With this game you have to find heralds to bribe or certain guy to kill. The farther you got in the game the harder it was to find these guys. While it is a challenge it kind of got irritating.

Some of the additional abilities are a great way to improve moving around the city.

The kill finishing moves are pretty cool as always.

My favorite part is now I have beat it but still after the credits you go back to the city. I still have all my assassins, money and things I bought. So now I can just go around doing missions and killing people.

There will be a next one, and you will not be playing as an old assassin.
And thank you too for the wonderful review, DHT… I mean Derek

Maybe I should save some money and ask someone to get me this game for Christmas!

Bring it on the old assassin! It would have been funny if there were some parts where after a jump of faith, he grunted a bit and then groaned ‘I’m getting too old for this shit!!’’ Lol!! I suppose, nothing of the sort?

So glad I spared that race of wyrm creatures in the first ME.

Got warm fuzzy feelings inside?

That’s often the first sign of a gastrointestinal parasite. Congratulations!

For some reason I’m thinking of Genocyber now.

Hi guys, I’m looking to buy my mother a laptop for Christmas. I have a budget of ?600 (approx $770). It needs to have all the Microsoft Office programs and a good webcam and microphone for Skype. Other than that there are no real essentials. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Something like this should work, ASUS make nice laptops.

However you don’t get Office with that, and I’m not sure you’ll find it for under £100.

Just got MW3 for PS3 and it keeps randomly shutting off?? Any help?

Anyone here play BF3? I MAY be getttin it if not add me on PSN: Fuzzyapple

Well then, lol. Would buy it for PC but don’t think my current set up could handle it.

You’re welcome

I beat AC: Revelations last week and Arkham City this week. Now I’m going back and beating all the side missions, challenges, getting all the trophies, etc. in Arkham and I’m going to go back and 100% all the main memory sequences in AC:R, as well (I only have two left, and the bonuses you get are pretty awesome). At any rate, I thought I’d give a few of my impressions here:

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations - Wow. If you’re a history buff like me, it really doesn’t get any better than the Assassin’s Creed games on that front. The way Ubi intertwines fact and fiction and makes you feel like you are actually reliving history is amazing. The amount of detail they put into these living, breathing historic cities is simply ridiculous.

I also somewhat like that these games don’t have “true” boss fights. Some people may find that a bit boring, but I think it adds to the realism a bit more. I also felt that this game was more varied than AC 1 and AC 2 (I didn’t play Brotherhood). While there is obviously some repetition to any video game, this one didn’t seem near as repetitive as those (and I still loved them both).

There’s a lot more to do this time. My only true complaint: as before, the ending leaves a bit to be desired. I did like learning a lot more about Altair, though. That alone made it worth it to me.

Arkham City - Wow. x1000000000. I try not to speak in hyperbole, but this is seriously one of the best games ever made. Top 5 for me, no question (and I would include some pretty legendary classics in my top 5; I don’t just change it up all the time). They took everything about AA and made it even better. There is so much to do in this game it’s ridiculous.

I’ll seriously probably be playing it for a good year or more, off and on, just to try and get everything done in this game. I’m not usually a “completionist,” where I feel like I have to do every little thing the game offers; I generally try to stick to main missions and a few side missions here and there (mostly just because I wouldn’t have time to play all the games I want to play, otherwise); but this game is so fucking fun and just flat out cool that it makes me want to do everything possible.

One of my favorite things to do in this game is simply glide and grapple across the city without ever touching the ground, and just soak in the awesomeness that Rocksteady has created here. Even something as simple as that is so enjoyable in this game. This is a MUST BUY. Period.

Now I’m just waiting on the Uncharted 1 & 2 Dual Pack, Uncharted 3, and Skyrim from my wife (of all people; I figured she’d be sick of my gaming by now) for Christmas. Man, what a year for games.

^I’m glad you gave Arkam a thumbs up cause if Santa knows what’s good for him it will be under the tree this year along with an Uncharted 3 PS3 bundle. I’ve been without a PS3 since September when my boy took it with him to colledge the little fuck. He’s back for the holidays so I’ve been playing Battlefield 3, very nice.

I just finished the main story of Batman:AC last night. I’m on vacation and played it well over 10 hours yesterday, I literally lost track of all time while playing.

I liked it but it kind of felt shorter than AA to me. I’m not sure if I am just much better at it after playing AA or if the story was just that much shorter. Also I felt like I had to keep doing the main story missions, so I only did a few side missions so far. I actually liked the really linear structure from AA, since it made it flow more like a comic book would flow.

**** Possible Spoiler *******

I also wish the Scarecrow was back, since that was probably my favorite part of AA (there may be a side mission with him, not sure yet). I really liked the Mr. Freeze boss fight, since it didn’t have the same old fight and evade feel of the other boss fights in the game.

**** End Possible Spoiler *******

I still give it a 10/10.
